Hopefully they have the price wrong too. I'm staying at $139. Final answer. 😉

The price is irrelevant to me, as are the materials.

I'm concerned about scale; a retractable middle leg rather than a switch-out one; and it'd be nice to have a stand that would be paired well enough with the Tamashii stand - and/or a SSC 3PO announcement.

Did I miss this picture in the thread? There's the restraining bolt someone asked about.

Yes, agree on all points.

I have the Tamashii but I'd buy a SSC Threepio as it would serve as a constant reminder of how good Tamashii's is. I joke but I still can't get over how impressive the Tamashii is.:wink1: I think Sideshows will still impress.

Well is still ain't going to be $150 at SS (with the mark up). Maybe its looking like it will be $179.99 - $189.99, which is better than I would have thought. Still, expensive toy.
Cheaper than I would've (and did *coughs*) guessed. Looking forward to seeing this go up on Sunday.

Have they ever officially said the Tamashii R2D2 is cancelled?
No, but at this point, I wouldn't be holding my breath for Tamashii.

How tall is the original prop? starwars.wikia.com says .96m. starwars.com says 1.09m.

In 1:6 scale, that's a difference of .83", which puts 6.75" squarely in the middle.

I think the scale being right, is more important than the cost at this stage. :lol
I agree 100%... Every other R2 has been the wrong scale... except for the Taito Japan, which I have- but the details are way off on that. Actually, I've spent the last month adding LED's and making physical corrections and refinements to it, and now it looks pretty damned good. So... NOW they decide to release R2... *facepalm*
Judging by the SS video, I think my LED's might actually be even better. I did tons of research, and found some really cool color-changing LED's. I also made film-accurate patterned gels in Photoshop to put in the little windows that look more accurate than this SS version, at least the rectangular horizontal one on the rear of R2's head. The SS version of that particular light has multi-colored dots, but they should really be mostly green, a few orange and one or two red. recreating the pulsating effect would be tricky; I did this with color-change LED's which smoothly cycle through eight or ten colors, then I put a constant green with that.

All that said, I am completely HIGH looking forward to this release. Instant buy. I wonder if it has a sound chip? If so, there goes the price into the stratosphere... lol

I don't get it... sideshow will sell their **** for more than overseas sell their ****?

My Bandai Tamashii 3PO arrives today from Amazon. I'm really kicking myself for not grabbing him when he was significantly discounted but I really wanted a compatible high quality R2 which did not seem imminent at the time. Bring on the R2 preorder!
I got mine on Amazon for $320... I'm still in shock. It's a great piece though, even with the slightly oversized pistons.
