I've never seen the battery compartments on Dallas and Kane - point me to a thread or images and I'll take a look.

R2 is working, but still requires touching the dome to toggle the lights. I've been unable to make a simple non-soldering patch to override this so far - I have a couple more things to try, but if they don't work, the only way to override the touch sensor will be to wire a small wire between two pads inside the dome - which I'm not sure if I'll offer as a service as it might be more time consuming than it's worth.

At the moment I've got the R2 (and similar) adapters, plus 3PO on hold waiting for some new parts to be sourced - I'd like the shipping product to be a bit different than what I can do with the prototyping materials I have on hand.

I couldn't find pics on the battery compartments (each figure has two; one in the helmet and one in the backpack). I'll try to take some and get those to you soon.

Definitely will follow this thread for more R2 updates.

Thanks!

My R2 arrived yesterday and I'm mostly impressed. The lighting effects on the droid and Ben's table are what take this to the next level.

If only the dome were made of aluminum. It would have really been the icing on the cake, in terms of miniaturizing the 1:1 droid prop. I don't mind the rest in plastic but the dome really is the "face sculpt" of R2 and would have looked amazing in Aluminum instead of painted plastic.

Having been building a 1:1 sized R2 for some time, I knew that I would eventually bite the bullet and pick this one up. I'm glad I did.

Hey guys, this figure is currently on sale at Thinkgeek.com for 20% if you use Yayger at checkout. The sale only lasts for 40 minutes so I hope people who want this see it REAL soon. I just put my order in and it came out to $127 shipped (thank god for no sales tax!)

Thanks for the heads up. Great deal. Just used a new Disney Visa card that's supposed to give me a $50 credit on my first purchase too.

On there right now trying to buy it. Whats' Yayger?

EDIT: Nevermind. Looks like I took too long. Already expired. :(

That would have been a good deal. I've been tempted to get this from SSC but then I have to pay tax and it pretty much with tax and shipping eliminates the 20% coupons there. I might wait and see if ThinkGeek does anything else soon.

Thinkgeek is California, I think, so you might get hit with taxes there too but they do free shipping. Disney store is another one to watch out for. They still have R2 and sometimes have discounts that also include free shipping.

ThinkGeek is out of Fairfax, VA, I haven't had to pay taxes once there but you do have to pay shipping when you use a code as it nullifies the "free shipping." Disney though I'd have to pay both taxes and shipping so it is about the same as SSC and takes longer because the distribution center is on the East Coast.

You're right on both counts! don't know what gave me the impression they were from CA. I thought I got free shipping on R2 too as I saw their $75 and over ships free note right when i was checking out. Shipping was only $6.95 though so i guess I just didn't notice. Was still almost $25 off the regular price though which isn't bad.

one of the "feet" joints on mine is kinda loose. hence, it's having some trouble standing up. any recommendations on how to fix/un-loose-en a joint?

I bought the exclusive edition of R2 and the only difference is 2 accessories....really , just 2 attachments and it was $40 more than the none deluxe.

LOL, $150. It's $149.99 on the site. Now sure you don't pay shipping but I can't see what it says about tax. If tax is included then they essentially cover the coupons that are roving around, it looks that way.

Well i'm in San Diego, so from the convention or from there site i get hit Taxs, just no shipping if i buy it from the SDCC.

But in other thought there may be no taxs, if you are at a convention its easier to do $150 instead of 149.99 then you wouldn't have to carry exact change if you are the vendor.

Oh I'm sure the $150 is just to make it easier, the question is whether or not it's "Tax Included." If not then at 8% you'd pay $162 out the door. The $20 coupon floating around would absorb shipping for most. If tax is included it'd be a $24 savings for me and I'd be able to walk away with it which would probably tempt me immediately if at the show.

Just got mine from thinkgeek. I really like it, and I was actually surprised to see how big it is. I've got other 1/6 figures, but the size of R2 still surprised me. Lights work great on mine. The panels are pretty loose, but I knew that going in. Glad to have this as my first piece in my Star Wars 1/6 collection. Next up is the HT Stormtrooper!

Picked up R2 at SDCC this year. I also found a Bib Fortuna for $45. Now I only need 3PO for this scene (and a Gamorean Guard or two)
