question does anyone know is sideshow really said that C3PO is in the making because i can't really afford the tamashi and if it is top heavy he will just crush poor R2 if I could. and let's face it medicom sucks azz almost all the time I hear about them breaking or something malfunctioning not to mention the scale is mini people.

I have the Medicom version. The only fault I can find is the scale. Durability? I'm not sure. Maybe if you let a 6 year old child handle it, it might break. The funny thing. Medicom box always says "Adult Collectibles". Its like a reminder to handle it maturely and don't play with it like a child.

But when the Sideshow duo comes out. I will still keep the old Medicom.

Cool and did I hear correctly the Taito alarm clock ran a smidge too tall right? For 1/6th scale.

Height-wise the Taito alarm clock is almost perfectly 1/6 scaled, just sad that it's regular paint app / finish of course isn't on the same level as actual 1/6 figures.

But I will have to go a little more into the details to answer your question. Though for my custom projects I tend to be a bit to perfectionistic when it's about scale, I somehow found it would make me unhappy to look at figures the same way, especially when they come from different companies, as I when you calculate the actual size into life-size you'll find that many figures aren't exactly 1/6 scale, but I think almost nobody notices it, especially when it's about less than 1/2 inch.

But I think it can start to look wrong especially when a figure is a smidge to small while another is a smidge to big when they're displayed together.

Let's take a look at the original droids first. From serious sources we will find that R2-D2 is about 42.5" high:

While from what I could find I'd say C-3PO is about 68.9" high:

So in 1/6 they would probably fit perfectly together at 7.1" for R2 and 11.5" for 3PO.

From the specs on Sideshow.com R2 will be 6.75"

while the Tamashii 3PO is 11.5" (also others posted this value in the figure's thread). On Sideshow.com it was listed at 12", which was the value Tamashii provided I suppose.

In a word, judging from what we have at this point I think it's nothing to worry about, it would only be about 0.35" and maybe R2 even get's a little bigger in the end, just hope it doesn't change into the other direction.

Yeah, that pairing looks just about right, Impoor. Nice weathering on the Taito clock, BTW. I hope you're right that it will be nothing to worry about, Pirate. I know in the end I'll be fine with Sideshow's R2 since it's such a great piece.

R2-D2 ranges from 42-43 inched depending which one you measure. So 1/6 would be 7" -7.166666666666"

What are the chances that Sideshow will be bringing out at least one other R2 iteration, ie the ceremony R2? That'd be a better companion piece to the Tama 3PO.

Of course that'll mean I'll be picking up sideshow's weathered 3PO as well, to go with weathered R2.

But then SS could bring out a ceremony 3PO too.

Looks like I'm destined to be one 3PO extra.

Any who Guys i measured my taito clock and it's exactly 7" tall a quarter off is not to noticeable. it's not like Hasbro's 6.25" now that is a noticeable difference on the wee thing. although i still think it's silly sideshow didnt' just round it to 7" like they did with gigantor Vader. who could have be shaved down by 1/2" maybe they scaled back for fear we would say he is too tall lol.

I look forward to C3PO and i am sure they will have some additional stuff that will be cool maybe a detachable torso that has a seated bottom half you can re-attach to body to pose seated. and limbs with wires hanging out with a bag for chewie would be primo as well. as well as a head with eye pulled out (but can still light) pretty nifty extra's.

what id like to see as well is 2 parts of the millennium falcon interiors. one of cockpit with working lights and the area chewie and r2 played chess and luke trained. they would make good environments.
and maybe 2 environments from deathstar. the room r2 and 3po was in with computer with portkey hole and the ledge for luke and leia to stand on with doorway.

Is there an extra feature or extra piece that makes it exclusive to the other vendors that are selling this?

Ahh, yes. I see that now.
I had to pull up another etailer's site to compare.

That one Sideshow pic is a bit misleading. They make it seem like you're getting 6 exclusive attachments and a 7th if you include the intergalactic bong that sits on top of R2's dome.

So freakin excited! R2 is one of my faves from the movies, and glad he and 3PO are getting made finally! Think I'm starting to get serious about collecting some Star Wars 1/6 from sideshow. I have the clone wars obi-wan and boushh leia from a few years back, and just recently got the awesome jedi Darth Vader. R2 is preordered and will look nice in my collection

I considered that, and also perhaps even taking off the legs entirely and replacing them with the legs from the Taito R2, if they fit and increase the height a bit. I'll keep the SS feet though.
