Just got Skippy:

The paintwork is very sharp on him, really well defined. By contrast he makes Artoo look 'fuzzy'.

The pop-up bad motivator is spring activated by pulling out his central photo-receptor. Putting it back is a simple matter of pushing it down until it locks, then flipping the hatch back down.

The doors are tighter to open than on Artoo, and I had to fiddle with his right hand red panel to get it seated straight after opening. The doors (the red ones at least) are just plugged in and can be pulled right off.

Inside there's more weathering than on Artoo:

The rails behind the red doors don't have the sliding pieces to attach arms to. Only the smallest panel is capable of attaching one of Artoo's arms as it retains the little plug-in cylinder.

He comes with two restraining bolts and two antennae - in case you lose one.

I thought the centre leg was non-retractable as it seemed to be stuck in place, but since the specs say it is I tried moving it again. And yes, it does retract fully exactly as Artoo's.

Don't know if his little red arms fold out as the blue ones do on Artoo, but they probably will. They're very tight though and there isn't much to get hold of.

Didn't notice that the panel with the restraining bolt was sticking out until I posted this image, but it presses back flush.

Damn, he looks incredible... like night and day between the weathering on R5 and R2; bummer... would have preferred R2 to get the better treatment; but still happy to see how great the R5 turned out.

That's one cool looking droid! He really does look better than R2, stock.

:exactly:

I was really surprised when I opened the box.

Sideshow pulled out the stops on this little guy.

The only things to look out for are the doors. Just as with Artoo they aren't very precise in how they fit, so you may have to futz them into place.

Wow, R5 looks great! Hanks for the photos & review Kuat of Kuat :clap. I reluctantly agreed to the early charging for this, but now after those photos, I'm glad I did now :yess:

He looks good with Sideshow's C-3PO. I'm going to have to build him a little black stand out of Lego to match the height of Threepio's stand.

I did that for one of the Artoos, and left the Lego studs exposed on the top layer so they trap the wheels and help prevent him from rolling off by accident!

Holy crap. He looks great, Kuat! Congrats. Will likely keep my order and just leave it boxed until I find display space and see how the Jawas turn out.

Wow they even got the holographic decals right. Who are you Sideshow? :huh
