Not to throw gas on this, but Agent5 and I are from a FAR different breed when it comes to Indiana Jones. Yes, we're super detail freaks. He actually missed a couple of things :lol Being that way isn't for everybody, I guess. Maybe it just depends where the greatest percentage of your passion for things lies. I've seen nit-picks on this board for other figures/characters that had me rolling my eyes. Didn't have a Waaaaambulance pic, though or I might have posted it. Yes, the Indy outfit changes from film to film: slightly to the eyes of a casual fan, radically to guys like Agent5 and myself. The SSC Indy looks pretty good, but it really is a stew of all four costumes.

Evilface, "press stud" is basically an English word for snap. He's talking about the snaps at the top and bottom of the jacket's stormflap.

At any rate, good to see you here Agent5.
Cheers,
Shawn (shawnkara)

This is my first post here but I have to say I've been studying the Indy costumes for over a decade now in complete detail. Indy is my thing.

I am livid that all of the reference material is out there and Sideshow still got so much wrong on this figure. I mean...HOW can you screw it up with so much reference to go on? Not only that, there are so many websites that have the details written down as well as photo references. I'm at a loss here.

Now, Trevors sculpt is hands down the best Indy sculpt ever. The only better sculpt was done by Trevor on the PF figure. Trevor is the man. But who is in charge of the details of the costume on the figure itself? I'd love to ask some questions and get some answers on why they put a press stud (only found on the Last Crusade and Crystal Skull jackets) on a Raiders jacket? Why is the hat a dirt color when it was a faily flat brown? Why is the holster the color of the holsters used in all the other films EXCEPT Raiders? The gun belt is the wrong color with the wrong styled buckle and no metal keeper. The whipholder is also wrong. It was stitched onto the gunbelt in Raiders and is the way Sideshow did is how it is in the other 3 films. The pants in Raiders also have a military hem, meaning they are shorter in the fron than in the back which doesn't look to have been done. It would have most likely made the drape on the pants a bit different. Maybe.

There are some elements I love about it though. The shape and size of the hat is correct, even if the color is off. The gloves look perfectly distressed as do the boots. The bag is also well done from what I can tell.

In all this is basically a mish-mash of all the films costumes put together. If the homework had been done properly we'd see a true Raiders figure...and we're not. All of the info I've posted above I know just by sight because that's what I do. Sideshow was on a clean slate and had every opportunity to locate and impliment this info into the figure and they did not. Not only is all of the above info available at various sites on the net, but all you have to do is study the film frame x frame and you can easily see the differences and nuances in the costume from film to film.

While the overall figure is impressive I'm very disappointed as a true Raiders fan. The casual fan won't know the differences in the costumes and I'm pretty sure Sideshow knows it and why they let all of this happen. Sideshow is not the only company to have screwed this up and let all these details slip. This is one of the reasons I'm so angered about this. I was expecting...no, hoping the reputation of Sideshow was in top form and I would finally get a true Raiders 12".

My quest continues.

I just pray the premium format figure doesn't overlook these details for the price they're asking. I ordered two. I'm praying very hard.

Lucasfilm licensing does have a lot of sway when it comes to approving these sort of things. If they decided that Sideshow should use the Last Crusade/KOTCS jacket reference shots then that's what they get.

Lucasfilm doesn't seem to be much of a stickler when it comes to the correlation between screen accuracy and specific film episodes. Sure, you're getting an accurate Indiana Jones in essence, but as you say it's a composite. It's idealized without accounting for the differences that exist between the particular films. There have been numerous instances where licensing doesn't approve something or gives out certain reference materials instead of others which in turn affects the outcome of a product.

At least that's one possibility that could account for it.

Yes, Sideshow is capable of mistakes and may have made them, but LFL is also notorious for idealizing things and making choices that collectors even know better. We'll never know, but certainly it is a possibility.

Wow...
no offense to the "purists/accuracy-freaks" but, man....
here it comes!!!
Waaambulance.gif

I know. :rotfl

No offense, but don't be a ^^^^.

:peace

Truth hurts huh? :monkey3

Bottom line this thing is gonna look great on my shelf and thats all I personally give a ^^^^ about.

Hey, Snake Eyes supposedly talks in the upcoming Stephen Sommers crapfest. :monkey4

I know this is an Indy thread, but are you f'ing sh_tt!ng me? :monkey4 I know it's fanboyish to react like this but come on. Really? Godamnit Sommers! Now I am going to melt my 3.75" figure collection :lol.

Sideshow needs to do a Daniel Craig Bond with that quality. If they still don't have the licence, give it to Hot Toys.

Hey, Shawn! Nice to see you here as well.

I know this for a fact as well. However, you can always pop in the dvd or look through the vast amounts of refernce material on the net and do your own research. In my mind there really is no excuse.

How true. Even on the Crystal Skull dvd Lucas said himself that you can put pics from all 4 films next to each other and cannot tell the difference between them. Is he on crack? Even my 7 year old can see there is a difference even though he can't put his finger on what it is. It's still evident. Sideshow did an amazing job on the shape of the hat on this one. It IS the Raiders hat...just the wrong color. :banghead
