Going off the best sellers list, think this PF is going to have a high edition size, Rex has been high as well, think they both might have more than Windu.

i was thinking the same thing, not that it bothers me. im still trying to figure out whats what in the statue world. what is considered high? if i had to guess without any real knowledge, im thinking 5K for this Obi? i think Rex will be lower just beause ppl may be put off on the price point.

How long does SS usually take before they announce ES'?

So years ago it’d be a lot, in the thousands, but now it’s a different game (similar to how Hot Toys is limiting their In-Stock merch).

So their recent Batgirl PF has an edition size of 2,200 and that piece has gotten universal praise with high pre-order numbers while their recent Deathstroke is at 350, while their new Green Lantern has 550.

I can see Obi over 3k, Rex around 500-750 and Mace in the same ballpark. Rex was always outselling Mace on the Best Sellers list, that price might not be deterring as many people as speculated.

It usually takes 3-5 months to get an ES, so we should get one for at least Mace by the end of the summer probably.

Could be the lighting but I felt like a decent amount was lost in the sculpt?

Overall, it turned out great, but I agree that were was some detail in the headsculpt that got lost in production. And, like most human sideshow pieces, those sculpts need a repaint.

Haha- and I just canceled this Preorder this morning! What a coincidence-
The final headsculpts/paint are definitely not up to the level of the solicitation pics, so no regrets.

I am a bit on the fence whether to keep this or not as I also have the Blitzway Episode III Obi-Wan and Anakin statues on pre-order. Do I need another Obi-Wan? If I keep it, I'll put the Ewan head on until the Blitzway statues arrive and then switch out to the Alec portrait, which I think turned out slightly better...

Right? I think there was a lot lost.

Funny, I don't see much or any at all in Mace's sculpt from their unboxing a few weeks back.

Maybe delay payments for a month or 2 and see some more unboxings from other collectors?

I think this was the most hyped one of the 3 that was revealed last year for May 4th (Rex, Mace) yet it might be the most disappointing?

I luv it. Think some paint washes were lost but not expecting a master paint job on a production piece. Looking forward to him. :love

I've pretty much decided to keep it at this point. I think it's a great looking piece and is unique enough that I'd regret not having it in my collection. I'm also one of those OG PF collectors who loves the mixed media and this one is very well done. Since the only Alec Obi-Wan statue I have is the original PF dueling Vader, this will be a welcome upgrade.

to my huge surprise.. I agree with sassafras. That's the first time in a million years..
But yes, I love it as well, and can't wait to have this piece in my studio!
(y):lol Well, watching vids on Sideshow artists painting - a prototype I guess - putting on this wash, and that, and mixing colors, and going back again - there's no way *realistically* that's gonna be on a production line.

I'm happy enough with clean paint, some decent paint toning, no breaks:horror, no googly eyes:pfft:. Only other Sideshow I have is Cara Dune and am more than pleased with her. Plus, on the shelf the piece will be at least 5 feet or more viewing; who's gonna see 20 toning/shading layers? My shelves are usually kind of dark, so they throw shadows/depth anyway.

IMO a striking piece, if I have a complaint it's I wish there was an empty hand, so the light saber could be attached to the waist As opposed to having to worry about the light saber sticking out (potential breakage/accident :horror ) all the time. Maybe I can fake something/sculpt something once this is in hand. For me not a huge deal.

I have many Sideshow statues, going back to their Universal Monsters line.. I've seen their worst, and their best.
At its best, their mass production statues can be as good, or even better than the prototype.
Even though paint job is essential, and very important to me, I still like this one.
Also kind of personal reason, because I draw the Obi-Wan comic, wearing this exact attire.

It's a good thing for you to have dark shelves to throw shadows on your collection, it really helps to hide something like this, or if you have figures that lack details.
I keep my shelves well-lit because I truly enjoy looking at the small details, but it can be a problem if there's some issue with the figure/statue because I can easily spot it.

If it bothers me that much, I will touch up the skin tone on this piece.. I don't have any issues with the rest of it. :)

My shelves are very well lit, but from directly above and typically slightly behind the statue so the shadowing does really help. I never thought about it until this thread and commentary but my accidental placement of the LED pucks in that way has really helped my display quality.

Yep!
The best way is to position your piece and adjust it to the existing lighting, so that it brings the best feature of the piece and hides its flaws.

Yeah I use puck lights or other small lights depending. I like the play of light and shade on the collection. Or carefully lighting a key area. My WETA pieces get more light for their details, like Eomer.
Hopefully Obi will ship this month and I don't get a delay notice.
