Isn't flaking a pretty simple thing to prevent? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sideshow needs to address this more so than many of the ridiculous questions posted on this board that DO get answered.

I had to send back my first Darkness bust because it arrived with serious paint peal, I reinspected my second one last night, so far so good.

This is unacceptable.

RECALL!

i say bump the edition sized up on all that polystone product so that profits can go into getting better paint quality.

So is it just the paint not sticking to the polystone? No primer being used?

replacement costs involved on stealth IM = primer funding cut from budget.

I have paint flaking on my hulk vs surfer diorama (they exchange it a first time and now it come back after few month).
I send a mail to sideshow, after my Iron Man 1:1 Mark III bust a new product make me cry.
Hope sideshow will investigate and find why this year, product start flasking

Note to self, Remove "Hulk vs. Silver Savage dio" from "want" list

Dang, seriously considering cutting many/most purchases now. Just not worth it if they aren't going to hold up. But some of the newer Marvel stuff is so damn cool that I don't want to NOT have them, and I don't want them if this is going to happen either.

Well, those photo examples are really really bad, aren't they.....

A week or so ago I was reading posts about how much the Serenity replica costs and that just because it was hand made in the USA by professional SFX model makers wasn't enough compared to the mass produced stuff from china.

Anyone want to take bets that in 20 years time, the paint work on my Serenity will still be perfect, let alone within 6 months or less after shipping, like many of these busts.

I wonder why it seems to be the 1:1 and busts that are having a problem, could it all be the same factory.

Is the problem limited to Marvel and certain movie busts/maquettes or have there been any PFs, SW, or say, any Dinosauria pieces with flaking paint? Sideshow can no doubt pinpoint the source of the problem down to the factory. I hope this doesn't go unresolved for long, or I will have to start canceling some things.

The idea of Dinosauria pieces flaking makes me want to cry. Actually any of these pieces flaking makes me want to cry.

What is the release time span on the items with the problem? Are they pretty close together? Maybe its a problem Sideshow has realized and taken care of.

Here's another question/conspiracy. I noticed that the sabretooth I'll be returning tomorrow had that crappy white styrofoam packaging. What packaging did other suspect pieces use? Because it's my opinion that that crappy and flakey (no pun intended) white styrofoam is clearly a case of cutting corners, wondering if a link could me drawn.

Also, was the Darkness LSB hollow? Does it have the same cheap weight as Sabretooth?

Well, post 300.
I really don't think this is so much a paint issue, lots of acrylics can be used without primer now, i've used a few myself, so much as a resin issue. I think polystone is a resin mix. Resins need to be cleaned really well for the paint to adhere or the oils in the resins start to flake the paints off. I 've painted a few resin pieces and this was a problem with the earlier ones I did. They had to be stripped, washed in a strong detergent, then repainted. I hope it doesn't come to that. i love my Angel bust...hands down one of the best pieces I own, and I would hate to see it deteriorate the way some of the pics have shown. She is hollow, but at her size, I'd expect that, she would be hard to put on a shelf otherwise, so I appreciate that feature.
