I figured the reason Luke didn't get deformed when he got fried in ROTJ was because the Dark Side was weakening. You can see it on The Emperor's face. He's genuinly surprised when Luke seemed to be recovering from the onslaught.

As to the metled face being Palpatine's true face, Ian only meant that the melted face proclaimed the man more accurately than the natural face. I think he was scarred by the lightening/ becoming a conductor of Dark Energy. It didn't just affect his face. It affected his entire body. Look at his hands!

The two figures look great! Though I think the head and hands are a little on the large side, I'm sure it will be fixed in production, if not I'll just transfer them to a taller Sideshow body, I don't care about correct hight with Palpy-Sidious.
Throwing in the Camera Bot and Sith Holocron in the set is great, I hope we get a Jedi Holocron too some day.
I look forward to pre-ordering them tomorrow.
