Interestingly, it worked out for him since his true age was just right for his younger self.

Speaking of his older face, I always liked idea that the deformed face would be his true self and that Palpatine's face would be a sort of Sith guise, it would have shown a great mental strength to maintain that and would have made Palpatine come off even stronger.

That is what I believe too since Luke wasn't deformed by Sith Lightning, just a motorcyle. :lol

So with the set coming with a Sith Holocron does that make them canon? Wasn't there something in one of the movie novels about holocrons? Now what Id like to see is Yoda come with Jedi Holocrons.

Ditto on that thought. I like the idea that the powers of the darkside wreaked havoc on his physical body which made the deformed face his true self.

And how do you know that's not the case? Luke was hit with the full force of Palpatine's lightning and it didn't deform his face or body. I always assumed 1 of 2 things most likely:
A.) The lightning was enough of a jolt to his system to break his concentration and his body reverted to it's original form.
B.) Palpatine planned that reveal the whole time ... it was the perfect pity act to push Anakin over the edge and have him betray Mace. Now, I am not in the group who believes Palpatine let Mace win. I think Palpatine planned to kill him before Anakin arrived and tell him the Jedi tried to assassinate him. The problem was he had no idea how good Mace was - he was too c-o-c-k-y. However, once Mace kicked his arse, he goaded Mace into anger and sent the lightning his way knowing full well Mace had his defenses up. I think he planned to play the pity card to make up for losing the duel and reverted to form for effect. It also helped convince the Senate to go along with the reformation as a Empire (he played his "sacrifice" up to the crowd).

The ROTS novelization goes pretty deep into them. Anakin basically believed that the knowledge he needed to save Padme's life (per what Palpatine told him) lie in the Sith Holocrons which the Jedi possessed deep in the Jedi Archives. But since only a Jedi Master could access them, Anakin could not get to them. (which is why he was so angry about not being a full master when they appointed him to the Jedi Counsel).

Geek.

I agree with B. Palpatine has always looked like that. Jedi mind powers manipulate what a person thinks says. I think Sith mind powers manipulate what people see.

In the ROTS novelization it is explained that Anakin reason to want to be a Jedi Master is to access to the Sith holocrons at the Jedi library so he can search the power to save Padmé.

EDIT: Pixletwin beat me to it.

Yes, exactly. I like the way one of the Dark Empire comics described the effects of the power Sidious possesed and how they really degraded his physical appearance over time. The whole lightning caused his deformity bit really doesn't fly, especially in light of the fact that Luke took it full force, like you mentioned, and it didn't have that effect on him.

Is the implication then that this pursuit of Anakin's comes after Palpatine explains that the Sith had power to save people? If so, that's a bit out of context with the film's timeline, perhaps the novel is different, because Anakin doesn't know about the Sith powers until after he's appointed to the council.

At the time Lucas wrote AOTC, the idea was that Palpatine´s appearence was going to be degraded slowly so we would have a deformed Palpy at the very end of ROTS. However Lucas changed his mind when he wrote ROTS. In fact, you can see that AOTC Palpatine looks older than ROTS Palpy in some shoots.

According to Pablo Hidalgo, Palpy desfigurement is due to the dark side energy circuit he created. His body becomes a super Dark Side conductor, generating and absorbing Dark Side energy at the same time and as a result of it his body is desfigured.

I never had trouble with the lightning deforming him cause, that was ok with me, but that they had him made up to look almost 80-90 years old in AOTC and then in ROTS to have him look normal and more 60-70 years old was hard to deal with, fortunately most footage of him in AOTC didn't show his face close enough to pick up on it, but having SW Insider with him on the cover, I know what the intended look was and how he was in ROTS. Even if aging weren't the cause, they should have done make up to at least match AOTC. Thankfully they at least learned from the flop that was Obi-Wan's beard and hair in the AOTC reshoots and had Ewan stay natural for continuity, you could tell the wig a little in TPM but oh man was the wig and fake beard in AOTC atrosciously unnatural looking. For someone so keen on detail, Lucas really misses a lot, like Boba Fett and Darth Vader being reversed in shots from the OT.

Thats what I thought it was. In fact McDiarmid said that this was the case in an interview he did with Empire magazine around the time ROTS was released.

Those closeups outside the nightclub are the best. The beard looks like it's made out of pubic hair. :rotfl

those obi-wan fake wigs/beards almost make that film unwatchable for me (phantom menace too, only to a lesser extent... but still there)

but in AOTC, man..... he looks about 30 years older in those reshoot scenes with the false beard and hair, than he does in ROTS.... it's just crazy. And he seems to be ACTING like an old man too

i just dont get it. And it makes me cringe every time i watch it. I wish I could cut them out of the film without altering the story, lol

(it annoys me so much, that every time I've watched TPM at home, near the beginning when obi and qui-gon are trying to get into the bridge on the ship, and the driodekas turn up obi-wan shouts "Master! Destroyers!" or something, as qui-gon is cutting into the door

....and EVERY single time, I yell back at the telly "Master! My hair's suddenly changed!"

:rotfl:lol:rotfl

Its his pursuit when he finds out about it (he tries to think of ways of explaining/justifying Obi-Wan to go in there for him if I remember right) then when they make him a member of the counsel he thinks all of his problems are solved and he can just walk in there himself and get it. Then he learns that Mace doesn't want him to be a master.

I know, same here... I used to have drinking games with buddies... the last one to yell FAKE when a reshoot scene appeared had to take a shot. :lol

I never lost. :D

It really is bad though, looks like someone taped loose hair on his chin and called it a day. And even Ewan seems to be affected by it, acting even more strange and crotchety. "Trust your feelings.... THINK!" :google

???? You're asking if making a toy of something further legitimizes something from a book?

That is something that people seem to forget, 90% of the expanded Univirse IS CANON. It just was not in the films. Most of it is based on Notes that George has, and alot of unused Ideas. If something is non-canon, There is generaly a discalimer of some sorts in the front of the book, such as with the Visonairys comic, and some of the Star Wars tales comics, though those have been much more Canon of late.

There was that rumor at one point when the NJO book series was tossed out for a while Becuase Sopossidly Lucas was Mad that They killed Chewie, but then He either let it go, or it wasn't true. Not sure which.

There is also the Cases of Aurra Sing, and The Twi-Lek Jedi Aayla Secura. Both of which appeared in the comics first, and Then were translated into the films after becuase George was particularly fond of them.

Back on Track, WE're DOWN TO less than 24 hours!!!
