To not like gadgets in Bond is like not thinking Superman should have a cape, or that Batman shouldn't have a Batmobile.

It's iconic to the character.

In our extensive Skyfall coverage, Mendes and Craig reveal just how Bond's latest adversary, Silva, will be more than a match for MI6's finest.

"[Silva] is larger than life in one respect but full of surprises - never entirely, at any given moment, exactly what you think it is. Javier takes some risks," explains Mendes.

"But he's an amazing actor and I think he gives you something you may consider to have been absent from Bond movies for a long time," he adds. "Silva's up there with the greats, for me, and that's why I worked very hard to persuade one of the great actors of the world to do it..."

As for whether he considers this a revitalization of the franchise, Mendes says, "...There are quite a lot of new things in this movie, but I never had the intention to reinvent the wheel."

Nah, I like it all. Old school classic Connery Bond, and the gadgets etc.
You have to remember the time frame some of these movies were made.

I even loved Peirce as Bond.

I love them all! lol But I grew up watching all of them, as my parents loved them too.

:lecture:lecture:lecture Not only are the gadgets not cheesy, but our government uses gadgets. :exactly:

I agree that the gadgets are an iconic part of the original Bond world, but considering that Casino Royale and subsequent Bond movies are part of a rebooted and more modern universe, I think the toned down use of OTT gadgets has brought Bond successfully into the 21st Century.

We have the Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan Bonds to revisit at any time we like, and I enjoy Craig's Bond as a different, meaner take on the character.

Newsflash, but a glove box that turns into a defibrillator is hardly "toned down." :lol

Girls, Guns, and Gadgets...
My 3Gs of the awesomeness that is James Bond.

Gadgets can suck it after what Die Another Day did.

I like my Bond to rely on himself, rather then really goofy electronics. Sean Connery can testify.

That being said, they should be included, but he shouldn't have to rely on them. Last resort, oh yes. But not every single time he gets into a shouting match.

Connery used gadgets in 6 of his 7 Bond movies, numbnuts. :wink1:

Probably because by the time CASINO ROYALE came out, the Bond gadgets had moved from "cool, quirky, and creative" to "over-the-top, obnoxious, and utter implausible".

Well at least portable defibrillators actually exist...unlike, I dunno, invisible Aston Martins.

Yeah the defibrillator isn't out of the realm of possibility. Some of the portable ones are awfully small. The one at my office could fit in a normal sized book bag.

Wasn't there also a computerized anti-toxin shot in the kit as well? :lol Nice try guys, but still qualifies as a "gadget."

He did. But I don't recall him using it at the drop of a hat. He used them when he needed them. Not whenever he felt like it.

He shot people in the face. And didn't use a pen shooter....well...he did...but in that fake Bond movie.
