A young Q makes sense in a modern Bond. He should be someone who has an understanding of the leading edge of technology. You see that with young people more often than old.

I still think a Q who is younger than Bond is a bit weird...but I dunno, I'm optimistic that they'll make it work. John Cleese again would've been awesome though.

Why not have both? I don't see why new and old can't work in the Q branch. Obviously the younger guys are going to be up and up with the latest tech toys, but I still want the "seasoned" agents working in the office to lead the way.

Yeah, it makes sense for sure...but Q was always like Bond's uncle. And that's what I meant by it being weird...the whole relationship between Bond and Q will be different.

But as I said, I'm sure they'll make it work.

I agree with Kamandi, but ChaserFan brings up a good point. With Llewelyn, the relationship was that he was the older, more knowledgeable person and was annoyed at Bond's petulance and always had to insist Bond focus ("Do pay attention, 007"). However, I also saw it that Q was just the head of the branch and would let younger engineers do the actual work on the tech.

I'm still not particularly happy about Mendes being the helmer (I don't like any of his films), but I also know he probably won't get that much leeway in steering the movie. So I'm not too bothered.

It will be different if Bond does something insane with a Q gadget and a younger guy would be "AWWW F_CK YEAH!!!!" instead of "Bond, please! This is expensive equipment!"

Younger casting would ultimately make it easier to believe in Q delivering assets in the field.

It will be different.

Cast looks solid.

When I think Bond, the last thing I want to think is American Beauty or Jarhead, but this is what it takes to get actors onboard these days.

I'm getting tired of the "gritty, real" action movie. "Bourne" really changed things. But I liked Bond better when it had a broad sense of adventure and glamor, when it moved fast and was flippant.

If they could make a Craig/Bond movie -- the whole movie -- as good as the first 20 minutes of Casino Royale, then I'd be in heaven.

Is it even humanly possible to not like Road to Perdition?

:dunno

Honestly I tried to like it. I don't know what it was about it that just didn't resonate with me. It just felt very flat and aloof.

I despised American Beauty because it felt so phony and overly melodramatic, and just not very smart or the least bit original or insightful. It bothered me more that it garnered such accolades for a movie I thought was truly poorly written. Otherwise I would have just dismissed it and never gave it a second thought.

But I watched Road to Perdition with an open mind. It certainly had a lot of elements I would normally like, like it being a period piece, beautiful cinematography, intelligent drama, great actors. But like I said, it just felt very flat and disengaged. Although I have to say it was certainly a step up from American Beauty!

After that I've given up on Mendes.

Don't worry... he won't have the beard throughout the whole movie. :p

Great pics, thanks....although I was hoping he'd rock the beard throughout the movie :lol

Beards are the best :lecture :yess:

Yeah I don't mind it either, but some people have been complaining about it since before filming began. :lol
