Skyfall premiered in the UK, though. We don't get it here in the states until November 8th.

Avengers Assemble opened April 25, 2012 outside the US and May 4, 2012 in the US.

Does it have the gun barrel at the start?
Five out of five in Total Film. They don't always get it right but I have a feeling we were due another good film.

Just came back from seeing this, it was EXCELLENT!
Easily as good as Casino Royale, if not better! The reviewers claiming Skyfall to be the best Bond film are not exaggerating.
It is definitely an homage to James Bond as a character, and just has everything that you could want from a Bond movie.
Regarding the gun barrel...

Regarding the gun barrel...
The gun barrel is at the end, however it is done in a VERY GOOD way. The final scene, combined with the gun barrel, completely sets up the rest of the James Bond chronology... Just a lovely ending!

Yeah it's not gonna ruin the film but it's a bond tradition, I thought being the 50th year they would put it back at the start.

See, I thought the reason they did that was because in CR he wasn't "007" and then after QoS, he was 007 fully realized, and expected Skyfall to open with it. I guess if they put it after the movie here, looking at QoS in conjunction, it's just looks like this is their lame new gimmick to switch it up from the old franchise?
As Irvy mentioned, I agree that it won't ruin the movie, but it's a shame to see them do that. It's Bond, you expect it to open with that.
