I've been playing for a few solid hours so far and this game is incredible... the fighting has to be my favourite, I love that you can interact with the environments while fighting, i.e. while fighting another local triad gang in a market, I took one guy's face and put it through a fish tank, threw another into an electrical box (thus electrocuting him), and pretty much curbed stomped the other guy. Because of all the different combos and different actions I did to fight the guys, it created an intimidation meter and the rest of the gang just ran away.

Everything else is top notch, the driving and motorcycles are really fun to control. One other thing that I'm really enjoying is all the interactivity around the cities and markets. You can go into markets and get different kinds of foods, clothes, even furniture for your apartment, collect protection money from local store owners, etc. Furthermore, the whole world just feels 'alive'. If you've played other sandbox games, usually the poor ones just have dead worlds with nothing going on but this one is just thriving- I've had a drunk guy try to ruin my picture of the ocean, some dude piss on my car, seen a few street performance shows, flirted with some girls, had my wallet stolen (they attempted but I chased them down).

This game is nothing but fun and definitely the sleeper hit of the year. If you like sandbox games with awesome action, really interactive worlds, and (so far) a really great storyline with excellent voice acting, then get this game.

Also, the graphics are AWESOME.

:rock :clap

I especially agree with your comment about the city feeling 'alive'. One improvement I'd make however is that I'd want more cars on the streets.

It's great, I love just walking around and seeing so much going on. I love that none of the "favours" or missions are repetitive too, there's so much variety. I've found the traffic level to be pretty heavy, especially around the docks (tons of trucks), but maybe there will be even more in different parts of Hong Kong? I've only really been in and around the apartment and the main markets.

Maybe there will be more traffic as i progress, it just feels like some of the inner-city areas could use more vehicles for realism. Regardless, I just love that we finally have a full open-world GTA-esque game that takes place in an Asian city. It feels like a long time coming.

I just saw this FoF/Ip Man outfit online. This will be mine.

Yakuza? :dunno

I played this one for a little while. Definitely promising. The hand to hand combat is awesome and the reason I bought it. Got hooked on Darksiders 2 though, so this will take a back seat for a little while.

I started this and Darksiders 2 last night, both are great. I am having lots of fun. Sleeping Dogs is everything I always wanted Yakuza to be.

Just bought my first vehicle for the garage..the little crotchrocket motorbike. It's amazing to drive, you go ridiculously fast until you go crashing through the sidewalk :lol :lol :lol

is it deadpan serious, or is it actually good, like Saints row the third?
I'm Tired of games like this who are all " I'm sooo grimdark I crap bats and Gothic architecture"

Saints Row is kinda in it's own category. It's so over the top. From the little I played of SD, it's not a silly type of narrative. I don't think it's taking itself too seriously, but it's like a good action flick.

Never really heard of this until I just checked this thread, looks frickin' sweet I might pick it up tomorrow!

A little bit of Bruce Willis since you play an undercover cop, and a nice influence of Jackie Chan with all the street fighting and martial arts.

There's both gang missions within the Triad (for your undercover assignment) and then police missions where you usually do drug busts, stakeouts, and make arrests on drug suppliers. It's really awesome!

This game is so amazing!!! It's been awhile since I've played a game who's story drew me in as much as Sleeping Dog's story has.

I really feel like I'm Wei Shen living this double life, just wondering when it's all going to go sour.

The story keeps on getting more and more exciting the further along I get.

I've not watched any video of this game, read nothing other than what all of you have said about it. Will walk into my local game store tonight and pick this up.

More like Chow Yun Fat action flick.

It seems very 'Hong Kong era' John Woo inspired to me. Which is a good thing, btw.

I meant more along the lines of tone.
Arnold movies are generaly HEAVY action, and very serious, with mild, subtle humor, and terrible one-liners.

Bruce Willis is usually mild drama, mild humor, and moderate action

Jackie Chan movies are more like slapstic comedy with action tossed ontop.

John woo can be all of the above depending on his mood.

SO I guess my original question still stands.

so is this game better than gta? heard many great things.
