Thought the whole 2 hour episode was extremely cheesey and stuff.. Several "Oh, gawd..really? :slap" moments, but that's what this whole season has been like IMO.

Although when the suit was on, and he was flying up through the Fortress, I had this EPIC feeling. A sad, but awesome feeling.

I don't really know how else to explain it, but from when he flies through Darkseid (or whatever his name was..) untill the end, I thought it was amazing.
It was the perfect ending for Smallville..

Hey POWER,

I was just thinking about my "Secrets" song prediction. (The song by One Republic.) It never came true. :monkey2

Good times though. :lol

Perhaps the suit simply didn't fit? It was the Returns suit (I assume it was the actual Returns suit and not a replica made for the show), so it would've been tailored to Routh's physique and possibly was ill-fitting on Welling. Just a thought. :dunno

It wasn't the same suit - the S shield was bigger and the red's were more red. And it's obvious they didn't even make the whole suit - just the shirt and cape. I did like how the cape actually had the yellow shield on it - unlike the SR cape.

It sucked. I was 6 years old when the show started. Looking back, the show always had it's flaws, but for the past 10 years, good or bad, I always enjoyed the show. How ironic that the last episode was the first that I actually disliked. For 10 years, the show never failed to fill me with wonder and excitement, until now. I think that the thing that saddens me the most is that we'll never see a proper ending .

That being said, I will miss the show. I will always remember the hope it instilled in me as a child, and the hope it has continued to instil in me. My only wish is that the end would be as good as the beginning, but the good memories outweigh the bad tenfold for myself and many others.

RIP Smallville
2001-2011

It was not the Returns suit just mimicking it. The returns suit was textured on the blue section not to mention the shield whereas this wasn't, it was made to look like plain spandex material. The red and yellow of course but one big thing to note is the actual "S" shield. It's huge but red portions stick out and are rubbery, not hard like we saw in Returns where it was an actual shield.

Welling didn't want to wear the suit for the longest time he was completely adamant about it. He loosened up towards the end but I have a feeling that not only as Dave pointed out that they didn't actually bother to make the whole suit but that Welling didn't want to get all dressed up.

I had stopped watching Smallville years ago as I knew it would never, ever do anything cool with Superman. Boy, was I right. I watched that finale and they did not do anything cool with Superman. But boy oh boy did they make Superman look like ____! That entire episode spent one hour and 45 minutes bumbling around with people talking and talking about absolutely nothing or talking out of their asses (reminded me of Superman Returns to be honest) and then we got a whole five minute of Tom Welling in the suit as Superman. And the ____ing suit had been in the Fortress the whole time? The people behind this show are ____ing idiots! And what they did with Darkseid and Apokolips was a slap in the face to the legacy of Jack Kirby. Just pure ____ here! Glad this is over. I now know I will never, ever have to spend money to buy this collection on bluray. Smallville confirms its place in Superman history as absolute trash.

What is funny is that the Reeve movies ended 24 years ago. Lois & Clark filled that void for 5 years ending in 1997 but Smallville running for a decade was a generation's Superman. Routh didn't even make a blip really especially in the pop culture consciousness but Welling was there. It'll be interesting for a generation (think about it if you were 8 when it started and was raved about you are 18 at show's end) who never saw their Superman in the suit, because you never did really, how Snyder's adaptation will go over since literally there won't be a Superman in true form engrained into the pop culture status like there was for Reeve's generation who had that image of Superman really for 9 years and for many years following it being out of theaters....

Not putting him in the supersuit really helps Snyder and Co since Cavill only has to contend with Welling's Clark (which as much as I like Welling won't be difficult) and not another fresh vision of Superman. I'll say this. I was never a fan of Margot Kidder, loved Teri Hatcher back then (who didn't?) and am over the moon over Durance more than the two before her and as far as I'm concerned Amy Adams has already lost the Lois Lane competition against Erica Durance. She'll be the image of Lois in my mind for a long time coming I think.

I wouldn't really call Welling this generation's Superman. Smallville really hasn't been a major force in pop-culture since back when Clark was in high school. Ever since then its just been one of those shows that was on. I garantee you that when people think of Superman, almost no one's mind immediatly goes to Tom Welling.

There has really been a void since the days of Reeve. Probably because he set the bar so high. Reeve was essentially the perfect actor for the part. Young enough to still be bale to handle the work and be in shape, yet looking old enough to be taken seriously as an adult. Perfect looks, charm, and maturity for Superman. Almost unbelievably how perfect he fit the role.

I admit at times some of the things I saw on Smallville were a bit different. I learned to except the producers were going a different route with the whole Superman/Clark Kent persona. For a show to last 10 years that's got to tell you something. Thank you to all who were involed on making this show happen.

I grew up with Smallville and I enjoyed it, but I have known the Reeve films much longer. I can't speak for others, but to me, Smallville kept the legacy alive, but Reeve will always be Superman.I feel the exact same way regarding Durance as Lois. She was beautiful, and she had the feistiness and wit to go with it. All of the things that make Lois, well, Lois.

That's the thing, Reeve is Superman for a lot of folks. Welling never was, 3 minutes of a finale won't undo 9 years + of Superman in the form of Christopher Reeve. In my mind right now Welling is Clark, Reeve is Superman and Durance is Lois. Whether or not Snyder and co can change that we'll see but after 10 years Welling definitely earned being Clark IMHO.

Very good points, for a lot of us who've been watching Superman's assorted movies and tv shows, Reeve is Superman, Welling is Clark and Erica is Lois. There have been a ton of actors/actresses but I think those 3 have cemented their parts in Superman lore.

I would have liked to seen Welling take on more of a Superman role a few years back but I think that ship has long sailed. I thought when Welling was in the poor Fog reboot, how cool would it have been to instead have a smallville movie.

Problem is that Smallville never pretended it was Superman, it was just Smallville, a story with Clark Kent, it was always a prologue to the main event.

It had an extremely limited budget, especially the past few years, most of the cost had to be going to the actors/actresses at this point as well, so it was never going to be the big action filled Superman tv show. I'm glad I watched 10 season of Smallville, the only other show that's run as long that I've enjoyed more was X Files.

Just finished watching it. Last few minutes were good, but did it really take them 7 years and counting to get married after already about to say the "I do's?"
They should had a Superman/Darkseid mini fight or something like with him and Doomsday.

A reflection on Smallville:

I have skimmed quickly down the page as to avoid seeing any spoilers for the finale. In all honesty, I have yet to watch seasons 9 or 10. Put them off so I could catch my fiancee up on the show and watch it together. It's sad to know the show is finally over. I practically grew up with the show from teen to young adult. I remember it airing that wonderful October night in 2001. I was 13. I watched the premiere episode and as soon as it was over, I knew I was hooked, and I knew this was going to be something great.

It doesn't matter that the ratings were never sky-high. It doesn't matter that some acting here and there wasn't very good, episodes every now and then fell short, or the plot maybe got a bit to eccentric and overly sometimes. Ultimately, those who have followed the show from beginning to end, it's been an enjoyable ride of heroes and villains, coming-of-age, love and loss, and one epic journey of a young clark kent on his way to becoming the most well-known character and hero this world may ever know... Superman.

I will miss this show greatly. I am just glad I still have 2 seasons worth to catch up on. I can only hope another superhero show can come along and fill the void left by Smallville. And I hope it doesn't suck.

I wasn't an avid fan of this show, saw a few episodes here and there over its course, but I of course made sure to watch the finale...he was going to put the suit on after all!

Really disappointing to a casual viewer, and I can only imagine to the real fans. 10 years of buildup for what?
A scene that shows a blue streak fly up to the Armageddon planet while it slowly and anticlimactically drifts out of view...no closeups on Supe's struggling to move it or anything. Then they give a few distant, fly-by shots of what obviously looks like a CGI Supes. They don't even reward the fans by showing a full shot of Welling standing there in an actual, tangible suit. :dunno

The last scene with him on the roof was pretty great though. They captured the iconic imagery really well.

Maybe I am wrong but this is how I feel. To the average fan I am sure this episode was a let down, but to someone who started watching this show 10 years ago and has never missed an episode this was great. This show was always about Clark never Superman. Thye scenes with Lois and Clark were very much on point just like they have been all year. Is this my favorite episode, NA Homecoming wins that prize, but for what it was and is I liked it.

I guess I am already in mouring. Sad for me. HAHA

So why exactly did Lois and Clark decide to wait 7 years before they got married again and pretend that they didn't know eachother for all that time?
