If anything, I think Battlestar Galactica was the reason they changed their name to Syfy. It's their original property with a ton of merchandising opportunities. It's something they'd like to slap that trademark "Syfy" name on.

It's true the Sci-fi channel has gone downhill, slowly over time. It's not the same great network it once was back when I started watching. Recently they've been showing more non sci-fi shows and movies like Wrestling, Law and Order, Braveheart and Apollo 13. Then came the horrendous Sci-fi weekend original movies. But, I still see them trying to retain their roots. BSG, Sanctuary, Eureka, Warehouse 13, all new Sci-fi shows.

If the recent trend is any indication, there will probably be more crappy non sci-fi shows & movies and bad D-level weekend movies, but occasionally a really good series or two. "Syfy" is also going to show the Caprica series in 2010, so they're not done with BSG yet.
Personally I hate the name change, it's unnecessary.

But truth, AOTS it the only show on G4. But that's all I watch anyways. Never really watched anything on it before, so I'm not disappointed.

Even AOTS is going downhill. Honestly it's not that great and it's what is holding up the channel. X-Play is useless, I like watching Gametrailers TV on Spike because they actually have lots of exclusive stuff to show, but all the stuff on X-Play I can get online faster.

And don't forget--Syfy will have a new (nicer) Stargate show later this year.

"This wasn't an option, it was a mandate. We made a commitment to grow into a global lifestyle brand. Sci Fi is a genre; it is like calling a TV network Drama or Sport. Well if that's the case Cartoon Network should have issues soon. I just saw they are planning on doing a live action Survivor Kids reality show!

It drives me nuts. All of the specialty channels are mainstreaming. TV Land has a number of lame reality shows now. Cartoon Network shows live action movies. SyFy shows wrestling.

Unfortunately its allll about the almighty dollar. Reality shows are cheap. You pay one guy to announce. The writing is minimal (although none are actually real). AND 90% of the American people are partially retarded and tune in over and over and over....

Speaking of reality shows has anyone seen the new one with the "normal guy" and the "Normal girls"?? All the girls are FAT. The one chick says "FINALLY a guy that likes NORMAL girls". By normal she means FAT. WTF..why does NORMAL have to equate to fat?
