So any thought on the SciFi to Syfy change?

I saw the adds for this the other day... I don't watch SciFi a lot, but I appreciate a haven for poorly directed movies and old TV shows. But, it seems channels that started with a specific focus are all blending into something different. SciFi has had wrestling for a long time now which totally baffles me.

And more annoying (to me at least) is Cartoon network showing live action movies, and now putting out teen-focused reality shows; WTF?

btw......what do the "normal" guys look like?

I hate the new spelling of the name Sci-Fi.

I, for one, welcome our new Planet StarbucksTM overlords.

:lol :lol :lol That you Kent Brockman?!?

I blame text messaging for this. People are too lazy to type "SciFi" so if they cut out 2 letters then its easier and now seems more hip.

:lecture

Nothing like continuing the dumbing down of America.

Everyone's gravitating towards "reality" programming since they're so cheap to produce. TV Land and A&E are good examples of networks that have totally drifted away from their origins. It's sad that Sci-Fi and Cartoon Network are following suit. I just hope we don't see any more seasons of "Who Wants to Be a Superhero?". :monkey4

these are generalizations so chill out

gen y, overly crisp baseball hats with tags and stickers, "ironic" hot topic shirts, designer pre distressed jeans, moppy partridge family hair, shiny sneakers, grossly underweight or artificially muscular, pencil beards, no respect

my age (gen x)? overweight, 5 oclock shadow, wears sports or star wars paraphernalia, weezer glasses, combat boots or beat up running shoes, cargo pants or jeans, old leather jacket or flannel, no direction

yuppy gen khackis, polo shirts, neat parted thinning hair, casual boots, clean shaven, movado watches, no souls.

hippy gen (my parents) angry scowls with bill o'rielly books in hand, while hiding their tie dye and pot, no free spirit

ww2 gen (my grandparents) bottle of 12 year single malt scotch, a fistful of viagra, and a 20 year old hooker. that's my grandpa, too much spirit.

new bohemians ( my great grandparents) nice suits, no internal organs or skin.

I saw the new teaser for the first time tonight -
Ghost hunters - check
cutesy animals - check
an audience of both girls and guys - check
carousel - check (but not the cool killer carousel of Logan's Run, the oh-so-huggable merry-go-round of Disney)
toy dinosaurs - not too scary now please! - check
lots of fairy dust and whimsy - check

aliens - nope
spaceships - nope
monsters - nope
DRAMA - nope

To paraphrase - This is...Sy Fy?!

(but not SciFi)

This is the equivalent of putting reality TV on Cartoon Network. It's stupid and I don't like it.

The reason I subscribe to cable is for the variety the different channels offer. There is (or was) a channel for just about anything. If every channel is going to be putting out the same crap, why do I subscribe to cable?

I still think the name change is another step towards moving away from being a science fiction channel.

What started MTV's slow death was "The Real World".

No, it actually started with Liquid Television, the first non-music show they aired. It birthed Beavis and Butthead, Aeon Flux, and from B&B, Daria.

I have to admit, I contributed to MTV's downfall, I loved Liquid Television, B&B And Aeon Flux. But the success of non music shows was no excuse for them to throw Music Videos to the side and focus more on the non music crap.

I don't really think that was it. The Real World got some of the highest ratings they ever got, so of course they had to spawn it off. Then VH1 went the same route. If any channels should change their names, it's MTV and VH1.

Beavis and Butthead at least had music in it. Aeon Flux was really short videos. I don't know Daria. I'll have to look that up.
