Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I’m trying to figure out which is the more moronic the fact that TFA made over 2 billion, RO made over a 1 billion or that TLJ has an over 200 million opening weekend and will soon cross over 1 billion without even a China release yet.

What a bunch of unsuccessful morons aren’t they.

Immediately fire the person who made 4.5 billion off THREE movies asap!

Well, when you put it like that.

Honestly, if Lucasfilm stamped its approval, you and I could make a Star Wars and it would make a billion.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Roger Corman could make a Star Wars film with Clint Howard as Solo and it'll make a billion....star wars can't lose....it can only be brought down by death

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

The PT couldn't kill it. I think its fool-proof. :lol

But I do believe it can die by the Death of a Thousand Cuts... meaning you can chip away at it over the course of many films to eventually make it so uncool no generation will have it.

The cutting has begun.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

If the Solo film isn't good, it might be the first to not make it to a billion.

We'll see how critics and fans react to the film, since a lot of critics lost their credibility and now look like blind SW fanboys thanks to TLJ.

This is basically an argument of gross income equates with storytelling or artistic merit. You've already lost whatever debate is at hand when you have to resort to this level.

Yup, Rogue One made 1.05 billion and was mostly loved. Has higher audience scores than TLJ on both RT and IMDb. And it had Vader.

It wouldn't take much for Solo to be under a billion.

That’s only natural but maybe Disney has figured out that it’s better to make more movies than less to keep everything else that surrounds the movies thriving.

There’s 2 ways to get to a billion.

Sell a billion fidget spinners at $1.00 each.

Sell 1 fidget spinner for 1 billion dollars.

Choose which is easier.

High movie budgets are a Hollywood problem not just a SW problem.

If they don’t want another Lone Ranger or Blade Runner fiasco then start by cutting their budgets in half on big tent pole movies like SW so we don’t arrive at a place where 1 billion is now a failure.

Yes TLJ is the FIRST movie to usher in that 1 billion is now a failure.

Even if SOLO reaches 1 billion it will be considered a failure.

TLJ has now ushered in the era of 1 billion being considered a failure.

The person said that morons are running Lucasfilm.

So in your eyes 4.5 billion earned off just 3 movies is a company run by a moron?

Okeedokee.

Jye you already lost. ALREADY LOST.

Your context and facts are irrelevant. :lecture

Unfortunately its the high profits that are driving even higher production costs. Other than marketing, the most expensive element of a movie is the actor's salaries. As profits have gone up, they demand more of a cut. Which means that movies have to make even more money to keep up. The cycle just goes on and on.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

A billion wouldn't be a failure for Solo. Story movies shouldn't be compared to trilogy ones.
A billion is indeed really low for a trilogy movie, but TLJ is gonna make more than that for sure. It will still be under optimistic expectations though.

One thing with Solo however is that it probably cost way too much money with the massive reshoots.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Charge $1.00 per viewing in China so that 1 billion people go see it, easy billion right there lol.

That would still leave 500 million who didn’t see it. :horror

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Solo will make money. Will it break the $B Mark during it's theatrical run? Dunno. But there are rereleases and video and streaming and TV and cable rights and special editions and directors cuts and multiple DVD and Blu-ray Ray and 4k.... For years and years to come. And most of that comes after the write offs and creative bookkeeping. And merchandise, the real money maker.

Bottom line... Disney will make an obscene amount of money, whether we know it or not. It's only a question of how long it takes.

You truly hit the nail on the head of the very lucrative ancillary SW market.

Well, using your metric, if they could have realistically done 2 billion or even more at the box office, rather than the more likely end result of around 1 billion for TLJ, then yes, they have failed substantially in their duty to shareholders.

The failure of TLJ to match TFA is not something that actually business analysts will overlook.

Yup Khev dipped he could no longer bear being the only conservative who loved TLJ. :lol

That’s the critical piece that only they have the answer too.

If it isn’t fair for Solo to be expected to earn as much as TLJ then maybe TLJ shouldn’t be expected to earn as much as TFA.

TFA was almost as large an event as Phantom Menace was, almost.

Look i’m not saying that TLJ doesn’t have problems it most certainly does just like every other SW movie since 1983!

My point is that TLJ is not the box office franchise disaster people are making it out to be if you want to see a proper box office disaster look no further than that masterpiece Blade Runner 5029 and that real pile of poop Justice League.

Actually I think JL might still break even but BR 7049 yikes.

Break even all that work just to break even lol but at least it will do that, poor BR 3039.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I don't really think about shareholders when I decide the merits of a film, but Disney is going to have a rough stretch anyway when the impact of the 20th Century Fox purchase is felt in their quarterly reports. Big corporate purchases usually turn a stock price down.

Star Wars will be a drop in the bucket to offset a $52B purchase.
