Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

It is, without a doubt my favorite film franchise.....but life...is more than a film franchise. Glad at least I am consistent in that. Which is strange considering I was one of the people who said I liked TLJ quite a bit and ended up defending it more than discussing it.

I have been a fan, huge collector and avid reader of anything Star Wars related for 40 years. I have been lucky to meet most of the cast...been to the con's, spent tens of thousands in merchandise.... That does not make me special in any way.

Star Wars should NOT be as a religion is to some. It should not be bigger or more important than other experiences in my life in the real world these past 40 years. its a matter of perspective, something alot of Star Wars fans seem to have lost in the last 40 years.

I suppose if your main identity is being a Star Wars fan.....then I see your point. My point is , as we have heard many times before, that this is a universe built off a film franchise. The passion anyone has, including mysel, should always be tempered by reality. So that is why I sound casual. Not because I am, just because in light or real world things, Star Wars is Star Wars....and real life is real life. I have seen people live for sports teams as well, and forget that, in the course of their lives, there are many other things that should inspire passion besides a single , really unimportant thing, like a sports team or film.

So if we get a bad film...its ok....life moves on.....If we get a great film, awesome! Either way, the experience of seeing the film with friends and family, discussing it, and maybe even joking about it, is the real passion I have about the films....

Which is why I discuss them on a dollie forum.

For YOU it was......how you can make a blanket statement like that, and assume everyone should agree with you is beyond me.....well...it is the internet.

I liked Rouge One alot, but it was not anywhere close to the way I felt about OT as a young boy.....if you ask people , you will get a varied opinion on Rouge One.

Great post! I was going to write something, but you took the words right out of my mouth! I pretty much agree across the board.

Good post and I agree on a lot of your points about life and entertainment. Especially sports. I like and have played sports for the better part of my life, and I never quite understand how people are so passionate as to have memorabilia all over their house and idolizing grown men/women by knowing every conceivable fact or stat about their life, but they do and I don't judge or relay my opinions towards why they do. And for some reason that is more socially acceptable than people who are as passionate about scifi/fantasy or other "non real" entertainment. People like things for different reasons and as to why they may be so attached to something. It's not as cut and dry as simply trying to relive ones youth, or it being like a religion for some. Some people have deep emotional ties to things for who knows why, unless they personally open up about it. I don't believe you do it intentionally, but sometimes your comments can be hurtful to those who do feel a certain way. No one is better than any one else, in most aspects of life, and pointing out what you think is right or wrong with little digs can easily rub people the wrong way. That's what I meant about saying you sounded the same way you did in the TLJ thread. Using the same examples of why people don't like something. Justifying why you like it isn't OK for you to rationalize those that don't are unrealistic and should just move on.

I'm glad to hear you are a true SW fan, but as to why it resonated with you and why you can easily brush off things that don't seem to bother you as much as others, doesn't mean you should deem them a little nutty in their passion. Even though some do take it a little too far. I just smile and move on. No reason to make others feel questionable about why they are so passionate.

Go Solo!!!.... Hopefully the movie delivers far better than the trailer suggests, but I'm not holding my breathe.

It's simple, some men like to watch a bunch of beefy dudes touch balls and slap each other on the ass. Some like to watch deathstars being destroyed. The former is gayer.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I've only seen the shorter teaser but it seems like it could be interesting. They have enough money to throw at production design so I'll probably see this one just for that. No one is really doing this stuff and when they do we get a Jupiter Ascending or something that doesn't feel cohesive. There's gotta be a good spaceship chase scene, right?

Do you guys think this new lady will be a serious love interest for Han that ends in heartbreak making way for his more detached smarmy vibe in the OT?

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

The sounds of the dials and switches at the start of that trailer make a nice change from the now overly commonplace ''quiet piano notes''

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I wasn't following the making of the this film very closely, so only just read this:

https://movieweb.com/han-solo-movie-new-name-timeline-story-details/

Good read. The Indiana thing never bothered me, nor if Solo is a nickname. I'm sure it will ruffle some feathers. The only stand out problem with me is that the OT & ST span several decades, so why didn't we already learn his "true" name if it wasn't Han. But again, no biggie for me. I'm sure they'll be more pressing issues with the film than his name.. :lol

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Curious as to when we'll officially see merchandise and if HT is making anything. I'm sure it's a given we'll at least get a Han, Chewie and a Stormtrooper or 2 from HT... Anyone remember how long PO's went up for HT RO figures before the movie was out?

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

The trailer is really cool it definitely definitely has that bladerunner aesthetic.
The characters seem a lot more likable than the last jedi characters

And the movie looks fun. Which the last jedi was missing.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I’m actually looking forward to this film. RO had to meet a lot of expectations because of the nature of the theme that it had to tie with ANH. But if you think about Solo, they can start fresh, they pretty much can come up with anything and it’s Han ..it’s his character for this film to not be intense or dark and gloomy like RO.

This film can be a surprise to the SW faithful in which it can be very entertaining. Will it be a an instant classic..probably not, but I’m fine with that. IMO even if this guy is good.,there is only one Han..and that’s Harrison Ford.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

If you notice on the poster the name is “Solo” not “Han” even though the others say “Lando” “Chewbacca” and “Qi-Ra.”

I think that problem is in you. You are no longer that young boy and you never will be again. So maybe nostalgia do it's thing and don't let you enjoy new movies THAT much, even if they are pretty close to the OT.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Dudes facial expressions and attitude remind me more of this guy than Han Solo

Trailer looked fairly boring. But TLJ’s trailer looked good and we all know how that turned out. So I will reserve judgement on the rest, but Alden doesn’t evoke Harrison at all.
