Yeah, I totally agree - though there's part of me that might have said the same thing about RO. On balance though, I'm glad RO got made, so hoping the same for this.
Ugh - what a non-character. The Maz cameo in TLJ doesn't get the scorn it so deserves - just totally lame in about ten different ways.

She’s just holding the dice so it doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but I hope they don’t retcon the dice into an emotional keepsake of her memory

I interpreted as Maz scoring the lightsaber from a client or whatever means done by her. I mean the whole universe knew the trio rode together, so it wouldn't be absurd that she knew it meant something beforehand. Plus Han asked how she got it, which means that he didn't even know that she had it; so lightsaber wouldn't really matter in the narrative.

Yeah, Solo always had them hanging ever since ANH. It was a funny little even-in-a-galaxy-far-away thing. But now its become a genuine "thing"... with a history like everything else in Star Wars land.
There's really nothing like the world-building that has gone on with Star Wars. So much that Disney was able to throw much of it away.
