Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

So basically what you're saying is... Let Khev, Jye, Junkion, Xipotec, rushmore223 and millions of others can enjoy future Star Wars movies till they die naturally and THEN we burn Disney Star Wars to the ground... :lol

Thank you for at least saying “ Disney Star Wars” . There is a huge disconnect for some folk around here about the company Disney and Star Wars.

Disney is a great company that makes some seriously great entertainment. If they ruined your hope for SW , O can respect that. But to say the are some evil empire that puts out nothing but trash is tin foil hat stuff....

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Here I thought SW was ruined in 83 my bad.

OK, so call me naive if you want, but this is what I don't understand about the current SW predicament - if the series was "ruined" all the way back in 1983, then why do people still follow it and give it the benefit of the doubt? The Bayformers sequels are rightfully trashed and vomited upon whenever a new one comes out, but SW does the same thing as the Bayformers sequels by regurgitating the same basic structure and ideas of its predecessors (albeit in an inferior manner) and people love it and go nuts whenever a new SW trailer comes out.

I'm 99.9% sure the positive reception is because of the Star Wars name and solely that. Without that, I'm sure none of the recent movies would have high RT scores. And before some tin foil hat guy hollers "They only have high RT scores because they have a Disney logo on them!", that's absolutely not the case - plenty of Disney movies have rotten RT scores - meanwhile every SW movie aside from TPM has a "Fresh" - "Certified Fresh" score. Try to tell me that has nothing to do with the franchise name.

If people genuinely like the movies, then more power to them. I will just never see a difference between them and other franchises that have gone on for way too long like Bayformers.

OT were not just simple movies.

We’re talking about major impacts on cinema, culture and society.

It literally changed lives.

Because of that impact they are held to such high standards and expectations unlike any other form of entertainment that NOT EVEN THE CREATOR HIMSELF could recapture that magic.

It would be like God trying to create another heaven but he ends up with New Jersey instead.

I know that already, and that's all well and completely fair when referring to the OT - but it still doesn't change the fact that it's unfair to hold something of Bayformers-tier (everything after the OT, more or less) with higher regard solely because of the name. I'm sorry but people who do that drive my OCD up the wall. :lol

If everything after the OT didn't have the advantage of the name, they'd all be in the 50's on RT - like Bayformers, the Friday the 13th and Halloween sequels past the third installment, Pirates, etc.

OT = Vegas

Everything else = Atlantic City

lulz

Let me explain how I see it.

I hold trash talking Luke in any SW movie in the same regards as trash talking my family and honor.

See I don’t expect a 22 year old like yourself to feel that same way lol and nor should you.

And before anybody goes there NO I do not think for a second that Kennedy and Rian disrespected Luke’s character if anything they made him more bad ass then ever!

Just ask Junkion he’ll provide the details upon request lol

Of all the things I disliked about both movies, I actually didn't have a problem with Luke in TFA or TLJ; he was one of few things I liked actually. I think the main reason his portrayal in TLJ is hated is because, much like adding a backstory for Vader in the prequels, people had this image of what Luke should be in their heads for 40 years based on SW 1977/ESB/ROTJ, so when he is portrayed differently from how people think he should be portrayed, it terrifies them and they can't accept the idea of their childhood hero making decisions that go against what they have in their heads. I actually didn't mind Luke being portrayed as a "hermit", "coward", or whatever. If I had an apprentice turn to the Dark Side due to my failure to guide him, I'd be pretty jaded too.

The rest of TLJ on the other hand... Not even gonna go there. It's just a mess of a film structure-wise.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

The only problem I had with Luke in TLJ was the fact that he believed there was hope for a character like Darth Vader who killed many people children included, yet here was this kid who did nothing and Luke actually considered killing him.

Makes sense nip it at the butt it’s the whole ‘would you stop an innocent Hitler with no criminal charges before WW2’ if you had the opportunity to do so?

Luke was thrust into Vader’s life long after his rise to power.

For me it wasn't believable.

Ben had it way worse and still turned into a jolly old fella. Luke had all the wisdom of the most powerful force users at his disposal, people who also experimented war and betrayal first hand and yet he turned into a wimp who hated life and didn't even have the balls to kill himself.

"Not my Luke." indeed, no one's except crazy Kathleen's.

I don't get where all of a sudden people are dissing ROTJ. I have never ever heard any fan in 35 years dissing anything in that movie, except for maybe the Ewoks. Granted I've never read any online forums till joining the freaks several years back, but all the fans I know and have talked to still have nothing but love or ROTJ. Still the OT is the greatest movie trilogy ever, a close 2nd being LOTR of course. ROTJ is 100x better than the new ST and most likely still better than any other new sequel movies Disney has planned. RO is the closest in feel to the OT. Doubt Solo will capture that, but we'll see.

Amazing how blind some people are to the deeper heroic themes at play with Luke from confronting failure, selflessness in the face of peril, isolation and survival and sacrifice with purpose.

But instead you saw a wimp who didn’t even have the courage to commit suicide, suicide really!

No, it took massive courage NOT to commit suicide.

Wow is that a life lesson you hope to pass on to your kids one day.

“Kids I hope one day you have the real BALLS to kill yourselves, YES make me proud don’t be a WIMP!”

Oh yes your definition of what constitutes heroics is just so inspiring yeah Kathleen Kennedy is an idiot your arc for Luke would’ve been genius lol
