Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Amazing how people complained about TLJ and now these tickets are doing so well. I didn’t see any interest for this movie now suddenly it surpassed BP. Can’t belive It. Guess all that hate was temporary and it’s back to the old grind. Lol
Doubt it.
I'm sure it's just part of the usual double-tongued marketing machine.
Dosn't mean the actual movie is bad, of course. We'll see.

People were done with the ST, not SW. I didn't like TLJ, but I'm up for a RO-type standalone like Solo. Who wouldn't be? Just because they gave the ST the double-tap doesn't mean the RO experience (movies which are homages to the OT) is affected.

In fact I saw articles saying there was a marked uptick in interest in Solo mostly because of the divisive reaction to TLJ - Solo took on greater significance to heal things.

These standalone movies are the only ones that I have any hope for now. The saga itself has 3/8 movies I consider canon and will end at 3/9 in all likelihood. I cannot conceive of how Episode 9 will redeem the other ones for me. So that leaves the standalones - Rogue One was good and my early disgust at them not casting Ingruber as Han for this film has dissipated enough where I now truly hope for the best and want Alden to do well even though I will never learn his surname. My mind is open for Solo, lets see what they've got.

Cause after TLJ everyone was like “ I hate Disney Star Wars and how it shoved agenda down your throat” everyone kept saying all the other Star Wars movies would take a hit because of it. Watch the next Star Wars movie pass 3billion . I don’t want Star Wars to fail but I was under the impression that no one would give another cent to Kathleen Kennedy lol

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

But what if Solo goes the way of TLJ? What then? The trailers have a Michael Bay feel to them. I can already tell Aden Ehrenreich won't pass as Han Solo. It's going to be difficult for people to tolerate. This guy on the other hand

Too close for KK, I guess. Han Solo represents everything she wants to discredit. Look at Alden's Solo all timid in the presence of a pretty girl. I feel a #NotMyHanSolo coming.

And the Marvel humor seems to run through the entire movie just by watching the trailers.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Our city and our city library celebrated May 4th Star Wars day yesterday and Revenge of the 5th today and it was great to see so many Star Wars fans in my little city. :yess:

The comic book club I sponsor bought and gave away 4 tickets to Solo as a grand prize for a costume contest and teenager dressed as Kylo Ren won and was excited to get the tickets. He's taking his girl friend and two friends with him opening day. :D

This was a fun weekend for me! :rock

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

DMR added several new Solo posters, so if you have 5600 points burning a proverbial hole in your pocket, you can own all of them.

I'll have to settle for one.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Seems so odd seeing Ron Howard promoting a SW film like in the new trailers.

When you think SW..you just don’t tie it with Howard..oh times are a changin :lol

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Lucas asked Howard to direct TPM and he declined (as did Spielberg).

And of course Howard had previously directed Willow for Lucasfilm.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Never understood why people think Howard is a bad choice...

He’s made many good films.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Yeah that was pretty funny I always pictured Chewie doing that.

So far all the humor has connected for me unlike the GOTG humor from IW.

Ughh how many times did Thor call Rocket a rabbit it was only funny the first time.

I for one am very glad that Lucasfilm was smart enough to cast a professional actor in the role who was was essentially discovered by Steven Spielberg and who the Coen Bros' considered to be talented enough to cast in a lead role in their last movie. Spielberg and Joel and Ethan Coen are three of the most talented artists in modern cinema so I definitely think they are far better judges of the kind of talent required to make a successful film than YouTube up voters. No offense to that guy in those videos that people seem to be so excited about but he seems to basically be a professional Youtuber who got cast to play young Harrison Ford because he had a talent for imitating his mannerisms on YouTube...multi-Million dollar franchise needs a bit more substance than that.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Alden needed an acting coach. Jim Cameron literally plucked Edward Furlong off the street to play John Connor.

The acting coach thing was already debunked...a script consultant was brought in to work with the ENTIRE cast including Alden...so I guess multiple Academy Award nominee Woody Harrelson, Emmy nominee Thandie Newton, and Emmy winner Donald Glover all needed the same level of "coaching" as the guy playing Han Solo...looks like he's in pretty good company then.
