Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Debunked because the actor himself said so.

Not saying he's lying, but healthy skepticism is warranted. Its not like such claims aren't self serving.

Yep...pretty much because he said so...good enough for me...I get that the lie would be self serving but he would look pretty dumb if someone came forward to refute his claim. So guy says he did not have a coach and...rumor says he did...I'll take a statement from someone over a rumor any day...maybe I'll start a rumor that Marlon Brando needed an acting coach for The Godfather...why not...?

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I somehow have this strange idea that the actor should pass as a younger Han Solo.

Ewan McGregor could not look less like Sir Alec Guiness, old or young Guiness for that matter, love or hate the prequels most would agree that Ewan's casting was on point...I could also point to the lack of physical resemblance to Brando that DeNiro had in his award winning Godfather II role...the list could go on all day. We have a cinematic history of different actors portraying the same character at different stages of the characters' lives. Fortunately in just about all of these instances the artists that make these films have prioritized the performance over the physical appearance to great results...glad Solo is doing the same thing...

You don't know that. Even Yoda hasn't seen Solo yet.

However, as I've said previously I'm giving this guy a chance.

I think I do...unless anyone out there thinks that guy looks like Harrison Ford it's pretty safe to say that they did not cast him for his appearance but instead for something that THEY felt he could bring to the performance...just like Lucas did with McGregor and Coppola did with DeNiro. In those instances audiences agreed with the filmmakers, So yes. I guess we will find out if the "world" agrees with them on the 25th though.

It is freaky (maybe even creepy) how that youtube kid looks and sounds like HF.

All a studio would need to do is tweak his mannerisms and provide a studio quality costume and he would be 95% there.

But with HF being who and what he is I wonder if he had a say in casting.

I bet that youtube kid was a big turn off for HF.

I wonder if seeing a clone like that would actually hurt the movie instead of helping it.

Well ok if that’s the case then I do have a problem with him not cast as young Solo and the next Indy lol

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

He wasn't in it for very long stretches though. In some of his scenes I don't think he even had dialogue - so that's what makes me give the casting of Solo some benefit of the doubt - maybe they auditioned Ingruber and just couldn't see him giving a full acting performance. On the other hand if they didn't even audition him in the first place then what tha ****? I don't know if they did or didn't.

Yeah who knows what the politics, connections or agency pay offs occurred behind the scenes to get casting done i’m sure it’s a pretty vicious process for everyone involved.

Oh well it looks like the movie might have enough substance to help absorb any issues related to Alden’s Solo performance.

Coach or no coach doesn’t matter to me. Same as personal catcher in baseball - whatever gets the best performance from a pitcher or actor.

Sadly this article made me wonder what could have been if Carrie F had survived and could have served in that Consultant role that they explained in the article for the cast and crew.

I think you are onto something here...seeing an impersonation would be too close to a living breathing version of the uncanny valley...looks like Ford, acts like Ford...but not Ford...does not compute...I'm leaving now. At least with the current casting we can hope for a good performance that is never trying to trick us into thinking we are seeing young Harrison Ford, but not. We can go along for the ride on this one and allow the character on the script's page to simply come to life in film. Also, not picking on the YouTube guy but he has been out there on the Internet for a while...if he is good enough to carry Lucasfilm's summer tentpole why has he not worked outside of playing young Harrison Ford's flashback look-alike...?

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Well, Ingruber sure looks like a teenage Ford... but he's not a very good actor. Watch his "Ingruber imitates Han Solo" vid. Any of us could likely do that well. I would imagine the producers just felt he was too green to carry an entire movie.
