Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Based on updated information from ads/interviews, my few predictions for this movie (just wanna get them in before spoilers come out):

Enfys Nest is not going to be some huge twist character... people have played it up too much so I can’t see it being the case. She’s definitely still a she though, no matter if they backtracked on it.

Bettany’s villain (Vos?) is going to be a throwaway type

Qi’Ra is definitely not Enfys, but she’s definitely still going to double cross/betray - I cannot see this going any other way

Emilia’s gonna look good but her acting’s gonna suck like always

Given that we now know Alden’s signed on for two more films and the Kasdans are clearly very interested in doing sequels... Han is *not* going to become the cynical Han we know and love from the OT in this movie - it would give his character nowhere to go in potential sequels.

Rest is up for grabs.. think it’ll be a fairly straightforward movie.. anyone have any predictions?

Just got out of the Tanzania premiere.
It's a great flick. One of the best in the series.

I too saw it tonight in Oz, and I have a new least favourite SW film! :yess:

Interesting opposing reactions.. can you guys get into why you felt about it the way you did, without spoilers?

Oh lord... it begins :lol

Asked about Lando's possible sexual fluidity ("Is he pansexual?" — i.e. not limited in sexual choice with regard to biological sex, gender or gender identity), the younger Kasdan replied, "I would say yes. There's a fluidity to Donald and Billy Dee Williams' [portrayal of Lando's] sexuality. I mean, I would have loved to have gotten a more explicitly LGBT character into this movie. I think it's time, certainly, for that, and I love the fluidity ― sort of the spectrum of sexuality that Donald appeals to and that droids are a part of."

When Williams played Lando in the original trilogy, he was oozing with charm; he laid it on super thick with Leia. But Glover's Lando is different, Jonathan Kasdan told HuffPost.

"He doesn't make any hard and fast rules. I think it's fun. I don't know where it will go," he said.

He even gets droids in there :lol

I'm just waiting for the same people that insisted TLJ was good to start posting how all the negativity is unwarrented.

Maybe we should be wondering why so many people form opinions of things they have never seen or experienced because some video bloggers opinion.....

We used to say opinions are like Ahole’s everyone got one....

It now need to be, Opinons are like Aholes, everyone forms one based on some internet review....

This applies to figure , film , products....

People need to form their own opinions before they seek the input of others.

I always wonder what film opinions would be like if people avoided all other opinions and reviews and you catch them coming right out of the film....they just watched alone....I have a feeling most folks would be to afraid to stand out their own and make a concrete statement if the liked it or not......

Too afraid to be cast out for not agreeing with the masses.

This is hilarious because it doesn’t even make any sense

Maybe just come up with a new one?

Admittedly I went in thinking the whole concept was unnecessary, and I feel I was proved right. My main complaints:

  • It didn't feel very "Star Wars" (but after TLJ I'm not sure how "Star Wars" is supposed to feel).
  • It was basically a generic action flick, no real jaw-dropping moments and the stakes didn't feel that high (doesn't help that we know Han, Chewie and Lando have to survive).
  • I didn't have a probably with the feminist message of TLJ, but the droid-rights campaigner in Solo feels forced. And Lando's bond with her doesn't ring true - I'd never expect him to have such strong feelings for a droid.
  • The SW universe is feeling less and less exotic with each new film. The Solo locations could have been reused from RO.
  • It feels like they had a checklist of things that had been mentioned in previous SW films.
  • I was surprised my screening got applause at the end - maybe I'm in the minority. But the ending is uplifting - like in RO, it briefly makes you forget the bad points of the rest of the film.

Why is that? Just read this thread...you find tons of people who have decided not to see a film that were interested in based solely on someone else’s opinion....

I personally like to form my own opinion.

How the **** do people swing tickets to premieres? You win that in a radio contest or "know" someone?

I'm seeing this next week with every other plebian.:(

I work in the lamestream media so get tickets to most previews. But this is the one time Aussies have got to see a SW flick first - a whole week ahead!
