Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

More bad *** than this?

View attachment 413226

I don't know . . . that's a lot of bad, and a lot of ***.

Definitely but all it takes is just one. R2 is well loved, 3P0 kind of shakes down the love for droids. K2 brought back the hype and love, only to have L3 ruin it.

Jar Jar tucked up, but if there is a lonesome kickass Gungan, tides change. I think Gungans can be cool if done right

Yeah give me my Gungan Spartan Warrior!

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

The gungan design was actually kinda cool.
Jar jar ruined it. But as background characters they would be a lot nicer than some of the aliens we got in last jedi.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

:lol Fair enough. For the record, I don't think it's all Gungans that are irredeemable. But Jar Jar? No redeeming.

That's literally what the gungans thought about Jar Jar until his historic work in bringing peace with the naboo and his heroics in the conflict with the bombad machanics of the trade federation ... They came around, meesa thinking maybe yousa could too okieday?

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I just want to go back to before Disney Wars of when SW was in control by its creator not this disgusting castrating skank you know when it was happy, fun, loved and celebrated....

Can’t we just go back to

83 ROTJ....errrr no scratch that lots of hate that year.

Ok I got it...

99 TPM....errrr no scratch that lots of hate that year.

Ok I got it...

02 AOTC....errrr no scratch that lots of hate that year.

Ok I got it...

05 ROTS....errrr no scratch that lots of hate that year.

Wow 35 years of hate i’m so happy that SW is a family event that brings people together and now we can add death threats to SW. :yess:

But... you forgot 1977 and 1980.:lecture

:slap

Looks like you been smoking the same "SW fans are SW haters" **** as the writer of the Dec 2017 article about how ESB was just as bitterly divisive as TLJ - by pulling old Starlog issues as evidence (that the TLJ media fan chorus requoted in dozens of articles as pushback against the growing reality of the scale of the TLJ backlash.) If anyone knew ANYTHING about Starlog in 1980, you'd know what garbage that whole theory is.

Yes, the wider public had understandably started to tire of the six years of massive, deep and non-stop true cultural phenomenon that Star Wars had become by 1983, but to say there was a torrent of hate toward ROTJ like there was for TLJ (or the PT for that matter) is utter revisionist ********.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Not true Ewoks easily taking out the armored Empire made the fandom go ballistic so much so that it’s still singled out 35 years later especially when attached to the merchandising reasons behind their inclusion.

That being said....I love them now they are so cute I hope they make a comeback lol

Like it or not SW has been divisive since 83.

I like Ewoks and I think Matrix 2 has more rewatch value than Matrix 1.

I’ll throw some dicks on the barbecue for anybody who has a problem with it. :wave

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Yup big time lol

Had I only caught on in 83 what they really were I would’ve accepted much quicker and loved them as much as Dawn of the Dead. :lol

I was too young to remember but I read an article - probably in Starlog, I'm guessing - that recounted the fan reaction to Empire Strikes Back. They said that many adult fans were furious that Darth Vader was even human, never mind Luke's Dad. They had head-canoned themselves into him being some magical robot ghoulie.

Nothing's changed except the damn computers. :lol

Starlog was a fairly hardcore sci-fi/Trekkie mag (remember, this was just a decade after ST's original debut) largely run by Trekkies who hated SW from day one, but HAD to extensively cover it (and put it on cover after cover after cover:lol) because it sold mags more than ST did at the time.

Columnist David Gerrold (Trek/sci-fi writer) - the heart and soul of Starlog for over a decade, until 1987 - was the guy who infamously went through SW/ANH listing out all the stupid scientific improbabilities (later the same for ESB) and simply never "got" SW at all. And yes, he often elicited reactions from fans in the letter sections.

And Ewoks were indeed bad in 1983, and widely maligned by fans at that time, but if you think it triggered widespread rage against ROTJ, a "fans vs haters" battle, people saying their childhood had been ***** or "I'm done with SW" - or even close to those extreme reactions - you need your head examined.

This hyperbole about things being so divisive and angry and "two sides" back in the days of SW, ESB and ROTJ - a way to try to create the narrative that SW fans are toxic and never satisfied and always were - is such revisionist garbage. I bought every Starlog, Fantastic Films, Famous Monsters etc etc. mag, and got Bantha Tracks and the offcial fan club experience plus interacted with multiple SW fan groups both local and international (with newsletters,) from 1978 through to the mid 1980's. It's bs and insulting to see people trying to weave this lie.

The intention of all of this is simple: journalists are desperately trying to "normalize" the extreme fan reaction to TLJ by creating a narrative that a large percentage of "SW fans" have had toxic/hateful reactions ALL the films (including OT) - and each other - from day one. And... that's a lie.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I've never seen so much hatred toward a film, online.

I've never seen so much hatred, period, online. We currently live in a culture where a large percentage of the population is absolutely addicted to outrage. The vitriol for a film as well done (even conceding that it's a mixed bag overall) and ultimately harmless as TLJ is simply absurd.
