Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Either make money for your corporate bosses following their strict rules or go back into obscurity serving fries somewhere.

You're basically saying its impossible to make great and artistic studio movies. Yeah, that's not true. At all.

[Smart] studios empower their auteurs all the time and arrive at great things. The name James Cameron ring a bell? Christopher Nolan? Matt Reeves? The list is long.

What Disney is doing is not only unprofessional, its ugly and should not at all be championed by people who love film as an art-form.

Thank God the DGA will protect Lord and Miller because clearly the fans are ready to crucify them (^) and side with everything the studio does. Weird times.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Why do people try to make hollywood into something it isn't.

Studios are saying, Edgar who!

Either make money for your corporate bosses following their strict rules or go back into obscurity serving fries somewhere.

What makes me laugh even more is that for someone who is such a hardline Trump supporter as Snikt is he expects studios to relinquish their tight corporate control over to auteurs lol.

You clearly don't comprehend the bigger picture of your party.

The good of the corporation above all else including the artistic talents of your precious lego bros.

Auteurs lol

Just stick to SJW, Auteur is way over used by you.

You said what I was thinking.

Shouldn't Snikt be calling out the "artists" as Anti-American hacks and siding with the corporations? You're a traitor to your party!

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I don't blame Alden for snitching on Lord and Miller. No up and coming actor wants to be the next Hayden Christensen.

The fact that he had a problem with their direction is very telling. Directors who allow their actors to try new things and improvise are often greatly appreciated so if he sensed that they were doing a crappy job in spite of that I'd be inclined to think that he was probably right. Especially after having just worked with a truly talented directorial team on Hail Caesar.

Are you saying that you don't consider this high art:

I get queasy over the fact that that even exists.

Even though he hasn't directed a relevant movie in over a decade Ron Howard working on Star Wars just feels right. Like Ford he and George go all the way back to American Grafitti, then they worked together on Willow and I have a feeling that he'll really step up and possibly surprise us with his take on Han Solo. As always we'll see.

They obviously were putting together something too smart and sophisticated for the masses. And the studios want to keep society docile man, so those sheep will do what they're told. Religion, obedience to the law, fear of making waves, these are all tools to oppress mankind. Disney and the government work hand in hand. Anyone who doesn't realize this is being willfully blind.

I hope they revise Solo's look too. The set photos looked ridiculous.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Unnamed sources have even claimed that the early footage suggested a "Gremlins 2 level masterpiece" before the hack producer of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Back to the Future, Cape Fear, and Schindler's List stifled their genius.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

The budget on this should be fun.

Yeah start all over now and throw away almost an entire shoot

However Disney will write off the 150 million or so already spent....

She really went out on a limb producing those Spielberg and Scorsese movies.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

:lol Well in fairness, guys like that sign on, the producer just throws them money and gets the **** out of the way. If they know what's good for themselves. Some indie director with no real track record to speak of, or guys who had a couple of comedy hits in the last few years aren't going to get that luxury.

So what do you think happened?

I think its a classic case of power-hungry suits getting outta line and micromanaging and in turn proud artists saying "Sorry, but you hired us to do our take on this material and we won't let you challenge that."

Again, hopefully we hear their side of the story so we can get a more complete [accurate] version of what really unfolded.

Yes, it's always nice when directors themselves can weigh in and reveal the truth:

"What happened was that I’d say a third of the movie or more has this embedded documentary style to it, and as a result we shot hours and hours and days and days of material. Normally when you put a film together it goes together like A-B-C-D-E and you move on. Whereas we had so many permutations, so many different ways it could be constructed, it took longer in the edit to find the exact version.

We’d always planned to do a pickup shoot but we needed a lot of time to figure out all this material and get the best out of it. So that pushed the entire schedule in a big way. Then Disney saw the film and reacted really well and they said, “Whatever you need, we’re going to support you.” Our visual-effects shot count went from 600 to nearly 1,700, so suddenly we could do absolutely anything we wanted. To design 1,000 visual effects shots should take a year, so it was all hands to the pump and we never came up for air really until about a week ago.

Things kept improving constantly and the film was getting better and better — and if you’re improving it, you don’t stop. I think any other movie you would say, “That’ll do. We’re going to get a hit.” But “Star Wars” is going to live forever if you do it properly. We just can’t let it go. You’ve got keep going until they pry it out of your hands.

Making “Star Wars” is a team sport, really. You can’t make these massive movies completely on your own. Even from the costumes to the guns to the ships to the VFX, it’s a real team effort."

Yup, sounds like something an auteur can do solely on their own.

He played ball, man. Lord and Miller don't want to (nor need to).

It sounds like you don't need any public statements from Lord and Miller then since you alone know the truth regardless of what the actual parties involved say.

Since Edwards says that Disney loved his first cut and offered to give him anything he needed to tighten it up and make it better why don't you share the details of the real movie Disney is hiding from all of us? None of that "let's just say it was a lot better" ambiguity. Take your time and spell it all out. I'll be waiting.
