Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I was reading earlier that the first rough cut turned in by Lord and Miller came off as "Deadpool in Space". When they were given studio notes they doubled down. They were fired and replaced by a LFL family member who will conform to the Star Wars "house style" and not re-define the character of Han Solo.

Ehrenreich’s performance has been described to us as being an interesting new take on Han that stands out on its own while still honoring the essentials of the character, and that it’s a worthy interpretation of the iconic scoundrel. And this is why Ehrenreich had concerns with the production as filming progressed. He started to worry that Lord & Miller’s screwball comedy angle was starting to interfere with what the character of Han Solo is really about – even if this was a younger, more reckless take on the character than the one we met in that Cantina on Tatooine. One source described it as being oddly comparable to Jim Carrey’s performance in Ace Ventura at times. Ehrenreich let his concerns be known to one of the producers, who then told Kennedy about it, which led to her decision to look over the existing footage (which is also a normal part of the production process, but this is where things get interesting).

Han Ventura... now the casting of Woody Harrelson makes sense.

Someone needs to make some "SAVE HAN SOLO" t-shirts.

Ha, called it:

Now I'm reminded of when concept artist Ryan Church read Kasdan's script and said it would be the "perfect SW movie" and that it made him cry or something. If Kennedy and Kasdan were genuinely trying to make a poignant film and the Jumpstreet guys instead wanted "Deadpool in space" then I'm not the least bit surprised that things didn't work out.

:lol :lol

Lord and Miller need to speak out and defend themselves. "Deadpool in Space" is a little too perfect a *** at them for me to buy right now.

Just catching up on all this, glad they are out, or whoever was sitting in front of me in the theater would have been covered with milk duds-infused vomit.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Edgar Wright had this to say about his Ant-Man exit three years later:

I think the most diplomatic answer is I wanted to make a Marvel movie but I don’t think they really wanted to make an Edgar Wright movie. It was a really heartbreaking decision to have to walk away after having worked on it for so long, because me and Joe Cornish in some form—it’s funny some people say, ‘Oh they’ve been working on it for eight years’ and that was somewhat true, but in that time I had made three movies so it wasn’t like I was working on it full time. But after*The World’s End*I did work on it for like a year, I was gonna make the movie. But then I was the writer-director on it and then they wanted to do a draft without me, and having written all my other movies, that’s a tough thing to move forward thinking if I do one of these movies I would like to be the writer-director. Suddenly becoming a director for hire on it, you’re sort of less emotionally invested and you start to wonder why you’re there, really.

I expect Lord and Miller's statement to be much more passionate (heated) and a lot more revealing of what really went on during the production.

I would have thought you'd be defending their choice to turn SW into a Deadpool movie as opposed to being skeptical of such claims.

I just don't buy the scoop. If they were really transforming the Kasdan's script into "Deadpool in Space" they would have been fired after two weeks.

I think the narrative we keep hearing from the press is very one-sided and championing the studio. I wanna hear from Lord and Miller - who may very well reveal everyone's assumptions that they were overloading the film with comedy are way off the mark and not at all the reason this whole thing happened.

People also need to stop assuming Comedy directors can only do Comedy. The Coen Bros., Alexander Payne, Tim Burton, David Gordon Green, Adam McKay....Comedy directors can easily segue into more dramatic terrain. For all we know Lord and Miller were getting too serious and cerebral with Han and the studio wanted something more accessible.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Why do people try to make hollywood into something it isn't.

Studios are saying, Edgar who!

Either make money for your corporate bosses following their strict rules or go back into obscurity serving fries somewhere.

What makes me laugh even more is that for someone who is such a hardline Trump supporter as Snikt is he expects studios to relinquish their tight corporate control over to auteurs lol.

You clearly don't comprehend the bigger picture of your party.

The good of the corporation above all else including the artistic talents of your precious lego bros.

Auteurs lol

Just stick to SJW, Auteur is way over used by you.

If this is true then I'm glad Ehrenreich voiced his concerns and Disney gave the Cloudy-21 Jump-Lego guys the boot.
