So the male writer was "uncomfortable" with proceeding? Color me shocked, lol.
That's usually code for, "there is no problem here at all, there are simply minor creative differences that will surely be hammered out quickly and the movie will be released as planned."
Who'd have thought Star Wars would get so bad and so irrelevant that Disney would need to go 'fishing' to see what ideas might be received positively? What a mess they've made of their $4B investment.
I hope it gets delayed eternally.

I guess Knight fell for the same "Would you like to create your own Star Wars trilogy?" KK hypnotic pitch that honeypotted the likes of Fiege, G Del Toro (Jabba movie!!!!,) GoT's Benioff/Weiss, Lindelof, Patty Jenkins etc etc - quite a long list.
They all go "oooo... following in GL's fiootsteps..."
But even if it does work out, you're stuck forever with a Last Jedi, Kenobi or BOBF skid mark on your resume's undies.

Much like with the Boba and Obi-Wan movies, I think this is just going to end up as another Disney+ series at some point. Which is probably the much better place for it anyway.

And of course they'll spin it with "oh we realized that there is just so much story to tell that it couldn't be contained in a single film or even a trilogy."
Fast forward to episode 1 and Rey's immaculately conceived Force child is outrunning seasoned bounty hunters on the dune sea of Jakku while she smuggles her padawans offworld under her ankle long dress.
They're just gonna re-do Episode 1, which was bad, but Disney will make it worse.

I don't know. I question whether the risk is greater on a D+ show or a movie.
They'd probably lose money on a movie but how much do they actually gain on these D+ shows?
They spend a fortune on them but how much actual revenue do those shows bring in? How many new subscribers?
If I were to guess at Disney announcing and canceling near immediately Rey movie, someone announced something that was never planned as a power move, then someone superceded KKs authority?
That's my best guess at this debacle. I done with Star Wars and have no horse in this race, could care less about Mando or Rey or whatever the mouse makes, but makes sense this was some sort of power move with announcing the Rey movie.

This might just be the ramblings of a jaded old fan, but….. instead of farting about with all this new stuff that just falls on its arse, how about remastering the OT in their original state, releasing them in cinemas, IMAX etc then on 4K (I know , I know. Physical media is dead, blah, blah). Sorry George, love ya, but this needs to happen now that you’re out of the picture.
There was probably a clause in his contract that said any release of the theatrical cuts voids the sale to Disney and all ownership rights revert back to him.
Disney is to wrapped up in identity politics to think about capitalism. Imo too many activists in positions that they shouldn't have.
In what world was it a good idea to let the past die? Why ruin the original trilogy ending? It to me was very much intentional. They are the useful idiots who were given power.
There was a story i will paraphrase that I heard in Hollywood that Disney let go of their older talents for the college... feminist... Liberal(their words not mine) types and these people were given unearned power and privilege. They cannot create, but have been pushed and affirmed all their lives about how perfect they are. They simply cannot make good things because haven't worked for it.
