Coulson came with a very cool gun.

I agree. It's a tough one, just seems like a prequel and a lot of revenge. I wasn't big on Skyfall, but seeing things like M, Moneypenny, and origin of Bond, it was something different. But it's following an approach I'm not a fan of. Bond and Joker should never have origin stories, just no.Hard to say. We haven't seen this. Of anything I'd say Skyfalk is the odd man out and out of place. There's no Mr. White or super bad secret evil organization trying to run the world. The first two had Quantum. This one has Spectre and will wrap up the loose ends of Quantum with Mr. White making an appearance.
I remember that Craig had a contract til 2016, and supposedly SPECTRE was supposed to be a 2 parter, which would release the year after, ending right on Craig's contract. I think that would have been an amazing idea, but I think Craig can still keep going. My problem is how they made Bond to be in Skyfall, some older agent who's losing his touch. I mean it's been nearly ten years since Casino to SPECTRE.Is this supposed to be Craig's last film as Bond? I must have missed that if it's true. I remember reading something awhile back that MGM wanted Craig to star in the most Bond films.![]()
Same here. I love how different it is to all. Moore's always seemed like a comedy, Connery is great and all, but it has aged with it's decade, and I can't say much of Lazenby.I like License to Kill, personally I'd rate that as the best 'final Bond' out of all the Bonds.
Anyone think that Craig might one day surpass Connery and be crowned ultimate Bond?
I'm curious to see how Ralph Fiennes is as the new M, yeah he was in Skyfall but we still had Judi Dench, I loved the way her and Craig played off each other, it was one of the best parts of the first 3 movies with him.
I always took it that Bond in skyfall wasn't the underdog due to his age but his injuries. He got pretty jacked up in the first 10 minutes of the film. And would have died if his name wasn't bond.I agree. It's a tough one, just seems like a prequel and a lot of revenge. I just finished Goldfinger and I'd say that Skyfall is the Goldfinger to Craig.

I don't want Craig to start hating the role with age. I'd rather he end on a high note like some said.

Dalton is my second/third favorite Bond, right behind Craig and tying/surpassed by Connery.
For me he already has. The only thing that for me is that Connery has the better Bond girls, and villains at time. Though Le Chiffre and Vesper are my favorite of all time. Honey comes second with Blofeld in FRWL.
Craig has the better story, and while it has a Bourne style action, I still think it should age pretty well in comparison.

That's why he trembled as he shot at the targets and was hurting doing pull ups or hanging from that elevator. But once he worked through it and pushed his body due to his never giving up attitude, he started kicking ass from common assassins to former super spies.
And if it is an age thing then if one impression skyfall leaves me with is can you imagine if they tried to pull that malarkey on bond in his prime?

There's definitely an arc to Bond's skills in Skyfall, and the theme of old dog, new tricks. I think the implication is between injury and age, he can't do things exactly the same but he's still creative.
I think my two favorite "don't doubt me" moments are when he takes out all of Silva's men on the island after their pistol contest and when Kinkade tries to give him shooting lessons with the rifle.
I'll be curious to see if that's just something in Skyfall or if they continue that storyline and have him tapping into other resources to get the job done.
That's interesting I never looked at skyfall Bond being that much "Over the hill" compared to CR Bond. He physically chased down Silva and overpowered/beat down plenty of guys bigger and stronger/younger looking than him.
I just chalked all his setbacks to that nasty injury and him recovering from that. The way he took out Silva's men chased down Silva himself and fought that spy/assassin in Hong Kong I didn't feel like he was out of prime shape. Just a bit beat up physically.
But regardless, Craig's Bond is a beast. I guess he's an old dog in Spectre as well but I guess he got his groove back.

I think you just nailed the whole big picture. Great post.I wonder if there's a bigger message as the whole movie has a theme of old things still having value. M having to defend the need for MI6 and the 00 agents like Bond, Bond's age being questioned. Maybe it's a statement like, even though Hollywood's changed, Bond still has his place.
I didn't see his flaws as being tied to his age even though they kept mentioning it, I felt like he owned the opening fight and if he hadn't been shot he probably would eventually have won. I actually saw it as a combination of his drinking and retirement mixed with his injuries, he was wounded and let himself go, like it was more his drive inside that was fading, not his body. Even Silva hints at it when they meet, asking if there as anything left of him or if he really died that day. As the movie plays on, Bond slowly regains the fire within, and it culminates with having to protect M, by the time he's at Skyfall he seems in top form again. It's fitting, M being willing to toss his life and other agents away for the mission put the fire in him out, it's fitting her needing him lit it up again.
Bond is full of fails in Skyfall. He got shot. He lost the dragon lady. He got his car blown up. He lost M. He lost his old home.
Bond sucks.![]()
Well...to be fair...he single handidly held down the fort while protecting the two elders and then had to run down each enemy because they couldn't even avoid being seen from like 500 yards away. But considering he actually wasn't successful in keeping her alive......
Historically it sounds like almost every other bond film lolBond is full of fails in Skyfall. He got shot. He lost the dragon lady. He got his car blown up. He lost M. He lost his old home.

Pretty much the formula of bond films tend to be the girl dies his car gets destroyed he almost fails spectacularly before having to come back a 2nd or 3rd time to finally save the world lolYou're right! I never realized how bad Bond really is at what he's supposed to do. Jeez. Talk about friends you don't need.
