I'm mildly let down with Solo's Box Office... but I'm really glad we have it. I think it's unlikely HT will delve into more figures from the film, but I'd love a Lando.

It'll be one to watch again and again.... unlike TLJ that I've barely watched since buying it.

Here's hoping JJ can wrap up Episode 9 beautifully and we can move on to elsewhere in the SW galaxy.

The "failure" of Solo has absolutely nothing to do with TLJ. The moment this movie was announced there was an outcry of "why?". This is a film that was not wanted or needed. And the final result is everything most feared using it to further that agenda is disingenuous at best.

Sorry but you're deluding yourself if you think TLJ backlash has had no effect on the failed Solo box office returns. Can't wait to hear the excuses when Episode 9 tanks as well. Ha!

Oh, and I have no agenda other than wanting to see good SW movies. I don't own shares in Disney so I don't give a flying f#@! what happens to Disney Star Wars. The franchise could die for all I care since there is nothing Disney or Kathleen Kennedy or her sh!!!!y "story group" can do to my love of the OT.

If Lucasfilm makes good movies, I will enjoy them; if they make trash then I will not support them. Simple. I am just stating my opinion in this forum and, as far as I can see, Disney Star Wars is going down in flames and fans are starting to let Lucasfilm know it by not giving them any money at the box office or the Wal-Mart checkout.

The real shame here is that Solo isn't that bad of a movie, as you said it's just a movie no one asked for. Who did they make this movie for? Sure, it has the plot of a cartoon, Alden is miscast and has zero charisma in the role but did a decent job, and Darth Maul was shameless fan service, but it is more of a Star Wars movie than TLJ for sure and, dare I say, slightly better than Rogue One, a movie full of wooden characters no one cares about.

Oh and thanks for the new sig Guer Toshav!

Just got out of the theater and am really happy with Solo. I didn’t have one problem with it at all and honestly wasn’t looking forward to the film at all after TLJ. I’m actually pretty depressed that it’s not doing better financially. It’s actually a movie I wouldn’t mind watching multiple times in theaters. Even my wife loved it.

I’d love a mud trooper, range trooper, and a Beckett from hot toys so I hope they go a bit deeper. At least give me a trooper hot toys!!!

I honestly don't see a Boba Fett movie doing much better, since it's probably not a character general audiences have much interest in. The only possibility would be if Mangold could make it really edgy and kickass like he did Logan, but I don't see Disney allowing anything even close to that.

I can't see how the BF movie could go ahead in the context of the Solo performance.

The "failure" of Solo has absolutely nothing to do with TLJ.

It's being pretty widely reported though. I was just reading the Vanity Fair analysis and they mentioned "Solo may also be suffering due to lingering backlash to The Last Jedi, which hit theaters merely six months ago."

SW fatigue (too many releases too close together) and divisive TLJ response seem to be the main two reasons the media is attributing to the disappointment. Troubled production too, but that stuff really doesn't register in truth - Avatar and Titanic were both considered troubled and doomed.

Lazy reasoning from the extremely vocal and extremely minority TLJ haters. Supports their agenda and avoids looking at the real reasons for the problems with this film. You can say the box office of TLJ was high because people didn't know better, but the performance of DVD and Blu-ray sales following the "vitriol" tells another story. TLJ "backlash" on Solo is a spec in the ocean.

TLJ's performance on home video hasn't been reported in terms of actual revenue (just comparative ranking,) and anecdotally it didn't seem to dominate the way TFA did (TLJ struggled on formats other than Blu-Ray, and wasn't that strong on DVD.)

It's complicated by the fact that so many media outlets were focused solely on TLJ's Blu sales at a time when Blu sales are plummeting year-over-year (15% drop in less than 12 months, similar drop the year before.) Blu gets a lot of discussion on here because it appeals to movie fans and older consumers but its time as a benchmark for success on home video is over.

Han getting killed by his son is a spoiler, Luke dying at the end of TLJ is a spoiler - as in, it spoils your enjoyment of the story and it in some way defeats the purpose of even watching the story play out because you know where it's all heading. Even something like Vader going postal on the troopers in RO I suppose could be a spoiler because you know what Vader does rather than just seeing it happen.

The (frankly, pretty random) choice of who the gangster boss was in Solo - in a short sitting/talking scene that in truth has no bearing on the story either directly or in connection with another SW film - is more in the brief "fan service cameo" department than anything that actually spoils your enjoyment of the movie, either in terms of storyline or a cool action bit.

And finally, if you're really averse to spoilers, then do what the smart people do - either avoid looking at sites that might give things away in the first few days, or stick to "no spoiler" titled threads.

I agree that it didn’t spoil the movie knowing that... but watching it yesterday I was kind of waiting for him to show up, and then when he did it was like “oh, there he was” instead of “wow!! WTF!!?”... that moment is supposed to do that for you and when you already know, it doesn’t. So, it is kind of a spoiler. It spoiled that wow moment.

Other than that I enjoyed the movie. I think Han was trustworthy and he wasnt annoying me at all. The movie as a whole is a little fast paced for my liking, but it works and the designs are good. I’m not a big fan of Clarke’s acting, but I can live with that...

To be honest I thought the exact opposite. A few spots (mines, end discussions with Enfys) were extremely slow and dare I say it, boring. I remember asking my son in those bits if he was liking it, as I thought to myself this is slow.

Wait -- this coming from a Mad Max fan? Fury Road is relentless.

Yes but nothing compares to Fury Road. That was a very simple story line going completely mad. Perfection!!! ...the pace in Solo is more like from one thing to the next to the next with no breathing room... Or that’s how I felt yesterday. Maybe a second viewing will help.
And yes I’m a Fury Road fan (the best action movie in the world on par with Aliens), but I’m also a Blade Runner fan (both the original and 2049) so I’m into it all as long as it’s consistent [emoji6]

Updating my speculation after seeing the movie and watching Disney's box office take go down in flames:

  • Already up for Pre-Order: Han Solo (in Alden Ehrenreich disguise)
  • Most Likely to be put up for Pre-Order in the Near Future: Chewbacca
  • High Probability in the Distant Future: Darth Maul (in fan-service disguise), Han Solo (in Mudtrooper disguise), Mimban Trooper
  • Never Gonna Happen: Every other character from this movie

....

Someone else said that the blu ray sales for TLJ were great as well, but i couldnt find that info. All i could go on were the amazon sales, but i dont know how accurate those are, and they have a few different categories that overlap. (best selling blu ray, best selling DVD, best selling movie, as examples). At that time, maybe 2 weeks ago, TLJ wasnt #1 in any of those categories, I think Jumanji was actually higher on one of those lists.

I just got back from the movie! I loved it! Like I said....I would love to see a Lando and Qi'ra, but it will never happen (unless someone makes them). Anyone up for making a Qi'ra?

Saw Solo twice and I really enjoyed it. Some slow parts but a fun film with some good action. Yeah it had that Rogue One grit and that used universe look and its fan service which got spoiled early on in this thread but I liked it - didnt love it, but enough to buy figures from. I’d definitely pick up a Mudtrooper, Chewie (if he was well done) and Enfys Nest - great design and her character did way more for the story than Phasma did in 2 movies.

Also:
I’d really want Benthic Two-Tubes since his appearance in Rogue One and now as one of Nest’s rebel goons. Love that design.

Man imagine if they made more parts of Nest's gang...
Saw's gang from Rogue One, or at least have Saw part of it? Seems like they're trying to make people care about all these new characters we're never gonna see again and it just doesn't really work all the time.

I would pick up a Mudtrooper Han in a second. I would get that more than the standard one.
