Re: Rogue PF

How about that story arc (right before the debut of X-Men #1 in the early 90s) where they all went to the Shiar empire and bummed around with the Starjammers for a while. That was pretty freakin' epic.

Meanwhile, Rogue was in the Savage Land with Magneto. Hot.

And it might have been the first real story featuring Gambit. That's pretty impressive.

Re: Rogue PF

OK,here's the million dollar question from the Lee era: Name one great story during that period...

Eh, maybe I am not a great X-Men expert here but isn't Lee a penciler/graphic artist? And not a writter? Maybe he wrote on some storyline that I am not aware of. I do know he's well known for Batman's Hush storyline...I am still looking for a good deal on the whole set. And of course he didn't wrote it but draw it.

Re: Rogue PF

The second Xmen film is loosely based on "X-Tinction Agenda" published during Lee's tenure. An as it was pointed out, Lee was an artist on Xmen, not a writer.

Re: Rogue PF

Shame, gentlemen. The artist is the other side of the storytelling coin in comics. Pencils can either make or ruin a good book, no matter the quality of the writer.

And vice versa, of course.

Re: Rogue PF

heres some good comics from the jim lee era:

How about x-men 1-3?
x-men 25 was awesome too.
X-cutioners song was good.

im sure theres more but i forget. i think uncanny x-men 304 was his work as well, and it was a good magneto battle.

Re: Rogue PF

Not his work, but his designs, so............

shat, I completely agree with Rook.... I have to say: :exactly: :goodpost: :lecture .

If you look at Uncanny X-Men specifically between 1996-2004 or so, it pingponged between horrible writers and horrible artists. Marvel has really tried to improve "X" story lines over the past five years, but I think the overabundance of "X" books just leads to redundancy and retconning. Great comics come from a combination of good writing and drawing.

wow that's an awesome story.

Magneto lived in the Savage Land for awhile because it shut his powers off and Rogue joined him for a brief time. Uncanny X-Men defined comics in the late 80's-early 90's. Chris Claremont/Jim Lee team were some of the best years for the X-Men (EDIT: all of Claremont's years). The whole X-Cutioner's song really was the beginning of a long period of suck for the X lines (although the Age of Apocalypse was great) because alot of the talent left for Image and they simply made TOO many X-Men based lines.

I hate how the removed sound from all of the X-Men cartoon intro videos on youtube.

Lee was 90's!.. name any comic during that area with a great story arc!@... hahah..

90's was all style no substance. Look like all the comic companies tat went belly up. Comics were sold based upon with cover had the biggest breast size.

Seriously though, Lee's X-men set the standard for art in the 90's and even today's art. Story on the overhand meh....But when i say clairmont im refering to his john bryne run. AWSOME...

X-Tinction Agenda? Rogue/Magneto Savage Land? Introduction of Gambit and child Storm run? Wolverine, Jubilee, and the Reavers? The first few issues of the new X-Men run where they confronted the Avalon and Magneto's Acolytes? :dunno
Those are all classic, great X-Men stories that didn't just respin ideas. :nana: The only thing from Jim Lee's X-Men run that sucked was the rebirth of Psylocke/Revanche.

The X-Men writing just plummeted after Claremont left because Harras kept interferring with the direction he wanted to take the Sinister/Apocalypse connection and Harras completely pampering the "Image" artists. The bigger problem was that Marvel's editor (Harras) got greedy and was more interested in pumping out multiple "X" titles by Lee & Portacio and threw Claremont under the bus so to speak. Claremont told Marvel to go pound sand, the Image artists quit, and it was all down hill after that.

Re: Rogue PF

imo, there were better stories before jim lee's era. The only reason why everyone wants his style is because of that X-men tv cartoon.

Re: Rogue PF

The cartoon dumbed down the comic. it was a kiddies show with no social commentary. What's better Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in black and white comics or TMNT with their different coloured masks to help distinguish who was who?

IMHO X-Men was good from Giant Size 1-213, then it was crap until around Age Of Apocalypse.

Absolutely. That and demographics. Being in my late 30's, I couldn't care less for all things Jim Lee. He's just meh to me, as he reminds me too much of why I stopped buying comic books back in the day - those ridiculously huge guns?

As a matter of fact, I would have loved for the Cyclops PF to be in his original suit.
