I disagree, i cant tell how many people on this board cancel items, because they get caught into the hype of a preorder and in many cases preorder items they dont fully realize what the final product will be. I bet many Indy fridge cancellations came because people finally realized exactly what they were paying an exclusive premium for, a freaking fridge.

'Hype' isn't the same as 'Tricked'. There is nothing deceptive about the marketing of these figures. It's the entire "that company is just trying to steal my money" "they put a gun to my head" stuff that bugs the heck out of me.

Honestly, it all breaks down to whether you want it or not. If you want it, you pay the price. If you don't want it, don't buy it.

At the same time, I'm totally apposed to the "I'll wait until it goes on clearance crowd too. That mentality hurts us all in the end as companies become more reluctant to produce certain items.

At the end of the day, as much of a broken record as it is, I just can't stand it when people feel like they deserve something different than what is offered. The self loathing toy collector. The adult that complains about silly things that they do not need. It's embarrassing really.

Actually not... the most recent HT pmcs (for example) have almost double the gear as flint and I got both for $119 each shipped. Plus I don't understand why some try to compare the 2 companies.

HT may charge more generally, yes but just about everything with their figures could be argued as better quality not just the headsculpt. (IMO)The clothing, gear, weapon molds, and definatley the truetype body is generally all better quality.

Comparing the two isn't fair. Mostly because SSC is an American company that manufactures in China while HT is a Hong Kong company manufacturing in China. How that makes a difference is profound, since they have the home court advantage. The fabrics they source are the ones used, while the factories have to match for SSC. Further more, HT gets to be hands on and speaks the same language. Granted, SSC could just send Heath and the fabric sourcers to China and have them all learn Chinese :)

I think this is good though, since they primarily only make three 12" lines now and are focusing on their PFs and statues (which they do best)

And how much is the PRMC license compared to GIJoe. Oh thats right, they pay nothing for it.

exactly. and it's not like GI Joe was up in the air and Sideshow acquired it. Hasbro still owns the property. so now you have 2 companies that need to divide a profit off of these figures.

I understand that prices go up. Star Wars figures started of at around $60 or $70 bucks a pop. I was OK with that. Now a regular release costs about $90. That increase over 4 or 5 years isn't so bad. I am just saying that eventually they will increase outside of my threshold. It happened with the Hasbro 4 inch line. No way am I paying $8 or $9 for a 4 inch figure. Neither can I afford to pay $170 or $200 for all of the figures I collect now. Sadly, I was not totally bummed when Lord of the Rings stopped and Indy began to tank. It has freed me up for the Joe line.

Well The way Hasbro fails with the 12" figs they don't deserve a damn dime if you ask me.:lol

If you got both for $119 shipped then you didn't pay near the MSRP which means your whole comparison here is entirely irrelevant. :lol

i'm guessing the GI Joe license isn't a cheap one. especially since it is kinda being "borrowed" by hasbro. that can explain some of the price hikes. and personally i think PF's are over priced. you're basically paying $300 for a figure you can never pose. you'll be forced to have Jedi Luke doing the moonwalk on your shelf forever. this is just my opinion and you can have your own. but i think these Joes are the most fun i've had with figures in a long time. i love posing them with all their different accessories. the possibilities are endless. and they hold up well to continuous posing.

Pretty much agree with all of this.

The one place PFs really shine is the Marvel license, or odd stuff like Darkness. The bodies of superheros are so exagerated its difficult to pull it off in 1/6 scale. PF is the perfect medium for that property. For all other stuff I prefer 1/6 by far.

PFs are nice, but nothing can compare to playing with dollies :rock

good to see the usual price debate flying in in this thread. i was getting worried there.:lol

With you, most of what almost anybody says is irrelevant.:lol

Im just saying I don't understand why people gripe or attack Hottoys with a negative comparison when they simply make better products than sideshow does (I apoligize in advance if that hurts anybodys feelings). And they say "well they cost SOOOO much more" .... not really.

Back in my day at the sock hop, soda pop cost a nickel and we had to walk 25 miles to school uphill both ways in 10 feet of snow... :monkey5
