By the time Hasbro's lame Tiger Force cash grab came around (1988) suspension of belief was a joke.

Duke: "All right men, this is gonna be a tough one. Better put on your tiger pants. Frostbite, grab the black and orange paint and meet me at the Snow Cat. I'm not taking any chances today."

Because Cobra's color scheme blended soooo well. :lol I get what you're saying, but I think suspension was needed from the get-go bud (Flash had orange/red pads for christ's sake :lol).

I kind of liked Tiger Force. I always thought of it as a desert uniform. I would probably be more into a Tiger force Duke or Flint over a Red Ninja but either way I would probably buy it, they are all better than CCC. Although I don't have the hate for him many on this board do. I have come very close to picking him up several times.

Variants don't bother me as long as we are getting plenty of new stuff as well. I have always been in favor of getting my favorite characters in various outfits. I think the trooper is played out for a bit though, it will probably be time for SS to get another type of trooper out soon so they can drop a few variants of that. That said I will still buy a Stinger Driver if they release it.

I'm about the same way.

I liked the Tiger Force stuff as I said and as something done for SDCC it would make sense. Thats when you do a figure thats a variant. I said the same thing back when CCC came out. I've never considered a variant a regular part of a line so if I have to skip an item then thats cool.

Because brown, green, black, white and bright-assed yellow blend better there... :dunno

lol, you'll get no argument from me, but I think that was the intent, at any rate.

I have to admit, I wasn't that impressed with Tiger Force back in '88, but as a collector, it grew on me. I really like that it was a concept that took hold in other countries, and I've loved tracking down the European and Brazilian exclusive TF figures over the years... only need Psyche-Out and Felino at this point! :)

Blizzard, Frostbite, Shipwreck, great Tiger-Force figures :lol

For all the special teams they did, none of the figures looked better than their original versions.

I would have to agree on this I remember the better looking apps as I was looking at them freshly out of the package and comparable to the older versions I had on the same figure.

Even Night Force? ;)

I won't disagree with the Tiger Force figures looking better than the originals, but I still think they look great for the most part. Python Patrol too.

Yeah, but those figures were just so hideous to begin with. Of course they looked better as Night Force, because they no longer had the day glow/"hey look at me, I'm a big, bright, stupid target with my yellow hair, lime green shirt, and red headphones, please shoot me in the face!" look. Muted colors generally work better for Joes, IMO, irrespective of whether it is an "environmentally" sensible color scheme or not.

BTW, way off topic, but I'm still trying to figure out how this guy is supposed to disguise himself in an urban environment.

Yeah, towards the end of the decade things got pretty bright, and not in a good way.

Like Tiger Force, the Alley Viper has grown on me quite a bit as a collector, but I did hate him as a kid. I think the closer I get to completing the "key years" in my collection, the more I start to look at later figures with a new perspective... But that may just be because I'm running out of vintage Joes to collect! ;)

People were salivating when the 25th Anniversary version came out. I understand that the huge shield and funky helmet are kind of cool, but not with that color scheme.

Also, weird that he has a gap in his shield to, presumably, look through, but no way to see through his actual mask

OK, for some reason the board is saying I am posting 12 images, but I clearly am not, so I doing this in 2 posts.

Even Night Force? ;)

Yes, even Night Force. You're right about the figures you listed, but look at more of the primary characters, Falcon, Tunnel Rat, & Outback. Not the ones nobody cared about in the first place :)
Falcon, not bad, but the original Green Beret is far better.

Tunnel Rat, original looks more like Night Force.

Outback, not bad for Night Force, but I still the the original is far better.

And the vehicles, how the hell are those things going to be camouflaged at night with bright neon orange weapons?...and glow in the dark stickers :lol

Python Patrol I swear started out as the concept for COIL...after GIJOE the movie, the twins were supposed to run the the terrorist organization with a twist. Switching the standard troops to a grey/black & red color scheme makes sense. The yellow & green look like a last minute change, when at the same time the cartoon coincidentally changed ownership from Sunbow to DIC and the COIL story is never told.

That's just my conspiracy theory anyway.
