I agree. The character of Flint in the comic and cartoon was never that of a grizzled, hardened soldier. He was tough, but it didn't show on his face with a snarly expression and wrinkles. I like the sculpt on the Palisades bust quite a bit more. I think it is a better reflection of the face on the card art, which is about as authoritative a source as you can get for character design.

Does anyone else think that the Flint head sculpt looks really bad? If im the only one, I will just shut up.

I wouldn't say it's bad, it's just not what I was looking for. Flint's head in the Zartan dio is what I would have prefered.

I prefer the sculpt on the dio as well. It seems to be a much better approximation of the classic character.

I think Sideshow's sculpt better matches the description on the filecard. You guys want pretty faces on male figures, go collect Tonners.

So your perceived filecard description (which says he was an academic before entering the military and has a "lop-sided grin"--neither of which screams grizzled UFC fighter to me, btw) trumps every representation of his looks from the comic, cartoon, toy, and filecard. . .OK. . .

I suppose if I spent every day of my teen years licking Flint posters and wacking it to the filecard and figure I could see your point. I didn't, so I don't. It's not like they gave him a slingshot instead of his shotguns. While an academic, he still went through all the training, airborne, ranger, SF and real life operating so that alone would account for the aged look. Not to mention the stress of 20 years or so as the Joe team's #3. That's also an insurmountable amount of stress. And stress ages a man. So I think the sculpt's a perfect fit.

:exactly: You're not the only one. Sideshow's human sculpts have always been weak. They really excel at sculpting monsters and other non-humans but the Joe heads leave much to be desired. Duke's head was so square he looked like a block-headed Lego figure with cartoonish yellow hair. I haven't seen a figure with "yellow" hair since He-Man and the first Kenner Luke figure. Who in real life actually has yellow hair? :huh I have been searching for a suitable replacement sculpt. Ditto Flint. The sculpt reminds me more of Dennis Quad as Duke in ROC. The sculpted beret looks like plastic and so fake looking that a cloth replacement is a must. The Beach"head" sculpt is so cartoonish it looks like Popeye the sailor man. When it comes to helmeted or masked figures Sideshow kicks ass but to date their track record of Joes just plain sucks.

Sorry. Your argument FAILS

If you stopped collecting now, you wouldn't have to cry yourself to sleep in shameless disappointment every night. :huh

Dude, your to funny

I like the sculpt also, some of you guys are to picky for every little detail

My argument is pretty straight forward--the sculpt is fine, but it looks nothing like any Flint presented thus far except in the mind of you, who only gets excited when the men look real "butch" I guess. . .

Sideshow probably chose this head arbitrarily because they wanted a tough looking head, not because it is being based on any previous interpretation of the character. If you want to come up with convoluted justifications to the contrary, that's your prerogative of course. But ultimately, it amounts to FAIL sauce.

You do realize that coming from someone who's openly admitted a crush on a figure that looks like a full blown carpet muncher (Jaye), this holds even less weight, right?

The sculpt is fine and fits the character appropriately. I'm looking forward to seeing shots of Flint without the beret to judge it better, but as it stands, he looks cool.

flint looks like a great figure that i can't wait to give gohastings my $49.99 plus $5.99 s/h for :)
