Re: re

Was expecting "official" announcement of the end of the SSW partnership/LOTR line at SDCC...accompanied by 4-8 more pieces. As a minimum a representation of Denethor and Faramir...be it bust or statue. That's all I've been wanting....SOME representation of of ALL of the major/semi-major characters.

I've been patient thru all the nameless orcs. I've even been patient thru the Prologue busts....FULLY confident that they were "fillers" until the more important characters could be designed. Four years of patience and anticipation to collect a FULL set of busts or some form of the major characters.

To say I am crushed is an understatement. Right now, I have no words to really describe my frustration and disappointment. And sense of betrayal for my loyalty.

Re: re

Didn't they say 7 pieces after Toy Fair?

Rohirrim Bust
PJ
Mumak
Amen Hen

....what else?

Re: re

Sigh, looks like the SSC/Weta LOTR party is over. Will someone turn off the lights?

Even tho there were so many more LOTR figures I would like to have seen produced, I accept that all good things have to eventually come to an end. Maybe, SS/Weta chose to make this last announcement now rather than at SDCC because it would have been very disruptive to the comicon celebratory atmosphere and it's good to get all the bad vibes out now rather than a couple of weeks from now. :dunno

As far as Hobbit figures, I think WETA will partner with whatever company can best bring their product to market. Hopefully, this will be Sideshow again. But all bets are off since Weta is partnered with DarkHorse for their immediate future.

Final thought: will there be a ROTK litho? I knew from talking with SSC reps that one of the reasons the Barad-dur Litho was delayed was that getting PJ's sig was next to impossible as busy as he was then and continues to be now. So, as much as I would like one to complete the trilogy, I am forced into the realization that it just won't happen.

Thank You both Sideshow and WETA for enriching my LOTR experience with your exquisitely crafted high end collectibles. I will cherish and reflect back upon the joy they have brought me fo a very long time. :bow :clap :rock

Re: re

You guys said it perfectly....

I said i felt screwed and some people challenged that. But its true. We HAVE been loyal.. and this ain't cheap. And we end the line with huge gaping holes in it... and far too much filler (the filler stuff is FINE and most of it is really cool.. but before, we looked at them as just that.. filler...had you said.. here is another Orc.. oh and btw.. you get him instead of Faramir.... i don't think so!)

This line is AMAZING and I love it and am sooo thankful for it even being made... but it really is a blow that it has ended so abruptly and wish such huge oversights. Really very sad.

Re: re

Yup L4P - very sad.

The line is incomplete - and I for one will always view it as such. I will probably reduce my collection to just the key figures that are represented, so that I can say "My collection" is complete.

Very sad. :(

Re: re

Man, they even made a Haradrim with a Rohirrim sword sticking out of him, but no companion piece of a Rohirrim that just lost his sowrd or something...No Rohirrim statue at all!
UGH!

Re: re

Thats it I cant take it any more. Ive read 7 pages of nothing but whining. :" Oh they didnt make a Faramir or a Denethor or an Eomer on Firefoot. " Get over it.
You guys all wanted the Mumak - pleaded until you got it and now you want more. Well there is no pleasing some people. Sorry but the collectibles market and SS doesnt revolve around the LOTR line. be happy with what you have.
These pieces are great and instead of celebrating some wonderful final pieces you just want to complain. Wow seems like Sideshow can never do right by some of you. :dunno I can see Im gonna be shunted from here for even saying this but oh well. :bang2

Re: re

Oh shut up.

Nobody is complaining about the Mumak.. or the other releases. What we are complaining about is how abrupty the line ended and how unexpected it was. How items we thought were so obvious we were no longer asking for them but taking polls as to how they would be represented. If you don't understand the dissapointment most of us are feeling then I don't believe your heart was really in this.

Nobody is saying "I hate SSW." I think the only people saying "Boycott KK and Narnia" are lightening the mood a little. Its a sad day as it is, keep your preachy b i t c h i n g out of it. :peace

Re: re

No...they can't.
...and this simply is not the grand finale to which they alluded!

And in this day and age of collectibles and the markets and the absolutely absurd after-market....and what with all the - seemingly - never-ending collectible lines and licenses...We as collectors have been made this way...we are a much more demanding lot then ever before and rightfully so...with all the damn money spent on -not just SSW LOTR items, but ALL collectibles that some of us buy- we most certainly have the right to express our distaste and disillusionment with a particular company and their marketing and design choices!

Re: re

Uh ok. Dont get defensive man. I wasnt preching at all just stating how it looked to me from here. And yes of course my heart was in this whole collecting thing. Just because I can say a point of view doesnt mean I dont understand your frustrations. With all these wanted statues when would enough really be enough? You may have Faramir and Denethor but then it would be but I wanted the eagles and I wanted Sam carrying Frodo. It would never stop and unfortunately, yes it did have to end eventually and now is the time.

Re: re

I'm really surprised at this reaction too. Everyone knew it was ending. After hundreds of great items all anyone can do is complain about what they DIDN'T get.

Re: re

Boy...Sideshow makes another stupid decision. That CEO is a total moron if he thinks that their LOTR is complete. I never cared to have a Mumak or Corsair statue,...or even a Barad-Dur from Sideshow. I figured Sideshow/Weta gave up their right to produce Barad-Dur and that's why Danbury mint was able to make their statue. To totally deny major characters like Denethor, Faramir and Haldir busts and/or statues is downright idiotic. I think they made way too many statues and busts of Orcs and Uruk-hai, especially since they aren't as crucial to the story as the characters they overlooked. Most of the Orcs and Uruk-hai were just created for the movie and didn't play a big part in the book. I would have liked to see statues made of characters that were just as important to the book as they were to the movie.

WETA has done a great job making these sculptures. I will just be waiting for the time when they decide to make the Hobbit movie and then the collecting will continue. I really want a Smaug statue guarding his treasure.

Re: re

That's what consumers do....Demand.

And come on...Why are you suprised? This is a passionate group of collectors....LOTR fans in general are very committed!
As are most fan bases! ...Wait until the Star Wars line ends! The Force help us, then! :help

Re: re

Sent you a PM Arwen...

As I said, we would have been disappointed no matter when the line ended, and no, we would never have had all our wants fulfilled. What I was saying was for the most part.. we though Faramir , Denathor and Eomer were GARANTEED. We were just awaiting it to be official. The fact that they aren't comming at all is the real blow. Sure, I wanted Sam Carrying Fordo, Barad-Dur.. etc etc.. but I knew i would be disappointed bc I wasn't going to get everying.

The Point.. three statues weren't made that we thought were comming.... that is why it hit so hard... all the other stuff would have been bonus

Re: re

Ah ok. Yep I can definetely understand that no doubt. It was just I myself got a little overheated because I felt that you guys werent even being the loyal fans I know you usually are to WETA. You werent supporting their decisions to end the line and if I worked at WETA I would feel horrible reading all these posts. It felt like you werent even appreciating all the wonderful stuff SS has done for us. Instead it seemed everyone was being upset over pieces that were only pure speculation, even though it may of seem garunteed. There is every cause to be upset at the ending of the line. So in turn Im sorry. Just please try and understand what I am saying. :peace

Re: re

Why did you think those 3 were guaranteed? I don't recall any hints or rumors to that effect?

Re: re

Why did you think those 3 were guaranteed? I don't recall any hints or rumors to that effect?

Cause they where 3 vital characters to the Trilogy. This would be like in the SW 1/4 line not making Han, Leia, and Yoda.

Re: re

Wow... to think that back in the day, THIS thread would've been this board's "hottest discussion." Now all we will ever have is "The last person to respond" thread. Thanks a lot, Big Al. :D
