Hi Guys.

The new suprised me quite a bit, although I had known it was ending sometime down the track.
I have no complaints about about remaining releases, yes it is a pitty we will never see characters such as Denethor, Faramir, but im not complaining. As a statue collector only im actually happy that this line has been kept to a managable size.

Well done to Weta and Sideshow for what has been an incredible experience.

Re: re

Yeah, it's not just that I didn't get everything I wanted... at one point I'd made up a wishlist of another thirty busts. I reduced that list until I had about ten left that I thought were must-haves. I wasn't really expecting Sideshow to make even all of those. What happens is they don't make any of them. Years of waiting for the most glaring and obvious gaps to be filled has led to absolutely nothing.

I'm sure we all have many little problems with the various lines that we could rant about for hours on end, but I must say there is generally relatively little whining on this board. Usually the spirit is mainly positive, even when it comes to the more questionable releases like for instance Buckleburry Ferry. I haven't seen such an overwhelmingly negative reaction to anything before.

What makes it worse is that this is the end. Normally if an announcement was disappointing you could at least look forward to the problem being 'fixed' somehow by later releases. All we might get is an explanation as to how the hell they managed to have Faramir represented only by his helmet.

Re: re

Myself and my wife would like to know

WHY
"Faramir represented only by his helmet."

WHY ???????

Re: re

It's been fun.

I am kinda glad that the line has ended. I mean sure there are some pieces missing that I would like to have seen, but it's 0k.

Sideshow and Weta have given us some amazing pieces from LOTR. :bow

P.S. Josh, I told you SDCC didn't have as many announcements as Toy*Fair.... :lol

Re: re

i am surprised as well that they announced this out of a sudden before SDCC. does it mean there wouldnt be much of a use for LOTR newsletter anymore. we could just rely on the general one for shipping dates since there wont be any more new products.... or is it? :naughty

i think what they have said could be interpreted in another way. the PJ as corsair is the last as in the last product that they intend to make and ship out prob. but it could mean that it isnt the last of the next 3 products that they will be making.

meaning it could mean that they will have other products just that this PJ as corsair will be the final one out of the many that have yet to be announced. sort of like a forecast.

anyway, even if SS didnt release anymore other than the 3 mentioned in the newsletter. we can hope that weta can find time to continue the lotr line. afterall it could well be that weta wants to save some of the popular ones like faramir and eomer to make and sell themselves. it wouldnt be as wise to make all the popular ones for ss, leaving nothing much for themselves later?

could be a marketing gimmick too? making us sad now by giving us the wrong impression only to announce new products later and making us real happy as we thought there isnt anymore.

Re: re

So let's talk value.
Do we see a spike in the market?? Or, do you think the line has run its course?

Re: re

No marketing ploys, no tricks, no "Suprise! We were just joking about these being the last statues" newsletter. This_is_the_end.

I must admit that when I got my newsletter this morning I was just as shocked, especially with it being anounced so "out of the blue" so to speak, and as noted many posts before, no Faramir or Denethor busts....vital characters that deserved representation. Not the Rohirrum bust, not the Wounded Orc bust. I appreciate those offerings, I really do, but hey, you can still pick up the Dwarven Lord bust and sand the beard off of it. :|

Remember me. I will have a Faramir and Denethor bust. Once my friend in the UK finishes Boromir, I'm having him sculpt these two next now. Who knows, I may have a few resin painted copies. :naughty

Wow, this was quite a surprise.
My gut feeling is one of relief. I am happy that the line is ending because my bank account can breath. At the same time, for the niche of product that I collect, I am fulfilled. They have made all the pieces that I think are "required" for the bad guy line.
I can understand how many are upset that Faramir and Denethor get no representation at all (apart from Faramir's helm, but come on, that doesn't count.)
I think that Eomer on Steed would have been a better piece than Legolas and Gimli on Arod, for his statue representative.
And there are a ton of busts that could have been shelved instead of Faramir, Denethor and Eowyn.

More than that though, I wonder how the actors playing Faramir and Denethor feel? While watching the extras and TTT EE gollum disc, you see how excited those actors are to have their characters and likenesses put into a collectible. Christopher Lee had this as one of the few pieces done on him bronzed and signed to keep! John and David don't have anything.

We all knew the end had to come eventually, and whether that end is because of sideshow or weta, or why it happened so abruptly in spite of things we have been told, we might never know.

So for the selfish part of my, I don't really mind (as long as I get my order in for these last three pieces :) ), but the more empathetic part of me is sad for my fellow collectors.

Re: re

On one hand I am sad that it ended... on the other hand my savings account is glad that it ended... I will be able to buy more than just a shed after all... lol.

But... guys realize this... thanks to these statues we have become great friends... and eventhough the line is ending... I am sure our friendship will never end... and don't you think that is the most important thing.

Huggggggggggzzzzzzzzzzzzz... love always... :grouphug

I'm glad we are getting a PJ tribute piece, but I can't believe that this is going to be the farewell statue.
Weta have given us so many great pieces over the years, and although I personally wanted to see some more bad guys made - which I didn't really expect to see, I had expected to see some more main characters done in statue form.
:dunno What happened?

I believe that there are two factors involved with this announcement of the end of the LOTR line.

First, Sideshow's 4 year license is expiring and;

Second, I believe WETA has a capacity problem in doing additional sculptures by the end of the year.

I think this was one of the key issues for the delay in getting Sauron completed. WETA just simply had too many other priorities like King Kong, Narnia and who knows what else.

I too felt that Faramir and Denethor should have had a statue or bust and Eomer on Firefoot would have been a better choice than the Legolas/Gimli on Arod.

Overall, SSW has provided an excellent high quality line of collectibles that you just can't find anywhere else and I will treasure my collection as long as I live. So as far as I'm concerned I could care less if their value increases or decreases (my kids may have a different point of view since they will eventually end up with my stuff).

Here's to Sideshow and WETA :toast and I'll be able to thank the Sideshow folks in person at SDCC.

Well, I knew that TF was gonna be bigger than SDCC Agent but the fact bascially SDCC is gonna be nothing of LOTR from SSW is new news to me.

Still shocked that three vital characaters are getting the shaft and two really are getting it. You won't see them do that to SW or Marvel.

Feel like I'm standing at the edge of Mount Doom with no ring.

This announcement really depressed me. But made my credit card breathe a sigh of relief.

Oh well

Like other have said, its been fun but actually I really could care less. As I really have run out of room for my display and do not want my collection to out grow me! :hat

Re: Oh well

It would be kind of cool to be in the know for this one for what actually happened. There was still pieces that were made that could of been released (and for all we dont know the three vital characters might be already made).

I think this has to do with Weta pulling the plug rather than Sideshow. Maybe they didnt want attention pulled away from their other 2 lines they have going. I think Sideshow did a great job with this license and I think their hands were tied for some of the bumps that happened along the way. But they took the bruises and kept going.
But anyway I got to say I really wanted the brothers and their father together in a display and of course the Argonaths.
No Lurtz in armour either with his bow raised

:bang :bang :bang :bang :bang :bang :bang :bang

Re: Oh well

this is ridiculous...

they end the line with a stupid Mumak, and a silly PJ piece...? give me a friggen brake... :rolleyes

How many poeple have i heard BEGGING for a Treebeard STATUE...? many more than i hear asking for a stupid Mumak...

they might have commissioned someone to do some better pieces of Frodo and Sam... at least one where they were together... Sam carrying Frodo is what should be the LAST piece... not PJ... i think i'm going to :puke

THEY are what the story is all about... i mean c'mon... we only get one of each of them...? and they're both pretty lame IMO...

Hey SS, if this is truly the last pieces we will see, YOU SUCK...! You won't see anymore of my money in the future... :thwak

Re: Oh well

Its been fun and I totally thank SS, Weta, and New Line for what they have done for us with these items. They have made me become an even bigger fan as the time has gone on and allowed me to meet on the internet mostly some really cool people. I have and will always look upon my collection with a great big smile and think of all the fun I had getting each piece. I'm going to try and get the answers that solve this riddle, but you wouldn't see the precious 1/4th SW line, Marvel, Buffy, X-Files, etc. have two characters totally left out and one only getting a so/so bust done.
