Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

:lol :lol :lol

JJ has confirmed that those panels contain all the characters and locations we’ll see in 9.

They’re only going to build a one room set.

Just 1 camera to film it and instead of ILM doing the effects they’re having prison inmates doing the cgi.

:lol :lol

"Oh hi Poe."

"Oh man, I just can't figure women out. Sometimes they're just too smart. Sometimes they're just flat-out stupid. Other times they're just evil."

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Soo much potential exists for Luke in 9.

Fans speculating why his hand wasn’t left behind like his robe.

I wonder if Leia in space has any connections to Luke was it he that protected her in any way?

How about this, did Luke pass anything to Leia on Crait that will come into play later, maybe the dice hold a secret?

Will Luke re-emerge?

Did all the force ghosts merge to give Luke super abilities?

So many directions for JJ to go, no?

No...

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Seriously though - forgetting Baby Johnson's latest entry into the "trilogy" for a moment. And ignoring the arguable quality of each movie.

Can anyone believe they actually started a trilogy of films with no story arc worked out whatsoever?
It's ****ing insane? What the TLJ did was undo what had been set up in TFA. So what's the point of a trilogy.

"leave the past behind - kill it"
Sure.. that's a great line, great writing - but not in episode 2 of a 3 film narrative.
:lol

JJ set up Rey to be someone (recently confirmed by Pegg) he set up a mysterious bad guy - an external conflict between Ren and Snoke. A yet unknown and potentially exciting backstory.
Kylo's obsession with Vader and the dark side - where will that go? his helmet - sith artefacts - the Knights of Ren for ****'s sake. All pretty much ignored or rebooted after one movie.

I mean it in an overall sense. You know when the dust has settled and you sit down to watch all *3* episodes of the sequel trilogy and see that one undoes the other.
Now JJ has to fit an actual story with a start middle and end that feels far bigger than one movie into 2 hours 40 - What were Disney thinking?

Now if JJ goes back in and tries to use some of those elements properly - he will be left with too little time to explore everything.
Nope we got Holdo and Rose, we got a side-quest storyline that would be more suited to a TV show.
Nothing of any resonance happened in TFA - Skywalker died - but wasn't part of the continuing story anyway (and Johnson says he had to kill Luke to make room for Rey - WTF?).
Snoke died for dramatic effect. And now the bad guys are D.U.L.L.....

That's it.

I quite like Kylo & Hux Megatron/Starscream relationship. There was nothing compelling about Snoke beyond who he might be. He did have a great scene at the end but I loved his surprise death. It eliminates a repeat ROTJ ending. Kylo is 100%. responsible for his own actions now.

OMG after 40 years of creative integrity SW has sold out.

Oh his death was great. No arguing with that.
But he could have been a seriously compelling character - he only appeared briefly in hologram form in TFA so this was going to be make or break for him. So it doesn't really make sense to say he wasn't compelling as that was a choice made in TLJ. And his scenes in TLJ especially with Kylo were superb. In fact all his scenes were the best in the movie - apart from Luke and Leis's reunion.

Hux is a comedy character now - he always had the potential to go that way but TLJ turned him into a proper joke. The First Order is now flat and boring. The drama is gone.
That's bad. :(

I think it’s more interesting now that there’s an unbalanced psycho and a scheming toady at the top. But I get your other points. :duff

This x a billion

YES THIS!

I actually think Hux will betray Kylo in 9 I mean why wouldn’t he.

A little bit of that Krennic Tarkin dynamic going on.

Imagine if it’s revealed that Hux is related to Krennic :lol

Who cares if it's a comedy character?

Verisimilitude - Baby Rian obviously never heard of it - he should speak to my man Richard Donner about it and learn something.

This RT review of TLJ accurately sums up the film and why only a handful of people are looking forward to Episode IX:

Nope and it seems nuts to me to do it that way . It obvious when watching TLJ that it was done that way and ultimately I believe both films suffer for it.

Oh well. Jye and Khev love it though :)

Absolutely. Having Kylo and Hux at the top of the FO really brings an almost Tarantino/Coen Bros level of uncertainty as to what they'll do next. Kylo is the crazy one like Vince Vega, Mr. Blonde or Peter Stormare in Fargo with Hux being the weasly Steve Buscemi type. Let's just hope there are no wood chippers on the bridge of Kylo's Star Destroyer because I don't really see any scenario where things end particularly well for either of them, lol.

And people complain about Snoke dying too soon when he got about as much screen time as the Emperor in the entire OT and more screen time than Boba Fett himself. Is it really that big a deal that he died in Episode VIII vs. IX? Again it just adds that element of "anything can happen" to the next installment instead of just preparing everyone for ROTJ 2.0.

In eight SW films we've never seen the crazy evil apprentice not actually have to answer to anyone. I can't *wait* to see what that will look like on screen. The dynamic between Kylo and Hux on Crait was awesome and it should be fun to watch that continue.

Colin Trevorrow supposedly knew Rey's fate at the end of Episode IX prior to TLJ's release so they must have had some idea of where things were going.

Whether or not Abrams will stick to whatever that was is anyone's guess obviously.

Oh well. Jye and Khev love it though :)

Love the good SW (OT/RO/ST) hate the bad (PT/CW/Rebels). Not that hard a concept really. ;)

According to people involved, I think it was a Daisy Ridley interview and most recently some comments from Simon Pegg, JJ had a 3 picture outline.
Even if Johnson strayed from it, I thought it was clear that they were obviously laying breadcrumbs in TFA, not the opposite.

Rey’s lineage is in no way determined. Kylo has read her own muddled, 4-5 year old memories. All it confirms is that someone sold her into servitude.
