Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

You might have a point lol

I go by the "third time's the charm" rule. If you have to watch a movie more than three times in its whole to like it, that's brainwashing. If you watched it three times and didn't like it, you're never going to genuinely like it.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Yeah I don't see JAWS changing his mind. It's Star Wars so I "get" trying to brainwash yourself because God knows I've tried more times than I can count to revisit the PT and see them through the eyes of people who liked them. But there's just too much of an assault of things that genuinely bug me for me to ever change my mind.

That said TPM does have a certain charm but AOTC and ROTS are just so bad.

Based on what he's already said I think there's just too much that he doesn't like about TLJ for it to ever win him over. But I give him props for trying. ;)

Aside from the Maul fights I never really understood the minority who prefer TPM over the other two. Christiansen is hella bad in AOTC but I'd take him over Jake Lloyd any day and ROTS is Oscar material compared to TPM and AOTC.

I guess I can understand it if people feel PM didn't "ruin" the image of Vader in the way AOTC and ROTS did - but I don't really mind his character portrayal in their of those two movies, so ROTS will forever be best of the PT for me. The Obi-Wan vs. Grievous fight alone is enough for me to put it above the other two.

I can't recall anything remotely charming about PM... The story on paper was fine but it's just so bad and bloated with awful CGI.

Nah JAWS is one of us blokes I would rather not just dismiss him like that.

I have a feeling that as we speak JAWS is watching Rose lecture Finn about Canto Bight and thinking "KHEEEEEEEEV!"

"You FOOL! I've been trained in the Jedi arts by COUNT DOOKU!"

*then does nothing but twirl his blades in a circle and slice up the thin bridge that is actually supporting him*

ROTS has only a few handful of cool scenes like Anakin and the clones marching up the steps (Hayden looks great in his robes), Palpatine at the opera, Obi Wan talk with Padme and order 66 but otherwise it’s a godamn travesty lol

Yes TPM remains my favorite of the 3 even though ROTS has certain elements that are better than TPM.

-Jake Lloyd's child performance was better than Hayden's adult performance relatively speaking?
-Best music of the prequels
-seems like much more real location shooting and modelwork (even if this is not factually the case)
-Liam Neeson
-nostalgia (it was the first new Star Wars movie in 16 years - which, at the time, seemed like a very very long time - the excitement was unreal)

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

are we even sure that was milk and not something else?

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

The fact that Luke looks so bad ass even while milking a cow shows how great Hamill pulled off this role.

My best friend is one of those who likes TPM the most (and isn’t hot on the prequels in general) and what you say is true. It’s mostly the fact that it ‘looks’ and ‘feels’ most like the OT which makes him like it better.

Naboo (specifically Theed) and Tatooine look very real, even though Theed was mostly CG outside of a scale model of a few buildings they built.

Whereas aotc everything has that green screen look, though it was improved by RotS.

Although he thinks Neeson ‘chewed the scenery’ :lol

In fact he was an avid prequel hater until he saw TLJ - now his views on the PT have softened up quite a bit.

he looks like a disgruntled street worker bro...

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I dunno if you guys don’t understand script writing or what....

If JJ wants to undo everything from TLJ he can do it with a tap of the delete key. Anything said or done can be undone.

Character dies? Nope, magically re incarnated or you didn’t see what you thought you did....

A villain lies about something.....says it was the truth....or vice versa....

It takes some skill to rewrite stuff to suit a new storyline well, but it can be done.

Hey Superman was brought back with some stupid hocus pocus crap..

Lex Luther escaped jail without any explanations....

Hulk learned to control himself without therapy.

Loki changes his stripes constantly....

Hell, Indiana Jones can survive a 500 Mph flight and crash in a Fridge.

It’s all up for grabs , expect anything and everything we just saw in TLJ to be thrown out , or only seen from a certain point of view.

Personally , I think JJ will set this story several years down the road, and it will begin with a funeral....Leia’s funeral....she dies of a broken heart.

My best friend is one of those who likes TPM the most.

So am I if that wasn't clear.

another reason - with as much disconnect as there is from the major events that the PT were supposed to get into, and how badly the other two films screwed those events, TPM almost comes off like a standalone film set in the Star Wars universe...and not a terribly bad one at that. You just have to forget that that kid is supposed to be Darth Vader which....is hard to do...so I still wouldn't be inclined to watch it .
