It has alot to live up to if it has any hope of winning back disgruntled fans.

I am of the of the opinion that most disgruntled fans do not even know what the hell they want, and have fallen into a place where its easier to criticize then to enjoy more SW.

Same thing happened to Star Trek.

Its was never going to be the ?second coming? for fans, but those of us who lived through the PT releases knew that.

So if your posting on this thread about how bad KK, Rian and now JJ screwed up, I would love to hear what you wanted in a SW movie, beyond just saying they should have done the EU

Well for starters I would’ve:

1. Not explained 32 years in a crawl
2. Not copied ANH but with less everything
3. Had all of the OT characters join up
4. Not created the galaxy’s slowest chase in cinema history
5. Made Phasma more competent she’s not ROTJ Fett
6. Canto Crap
7. Leia Poppins
8. Given Ackbar a proper send off
9. Given more stakes to TLJ it just ends with nothing happening
10. Not shown broom boy yuck

And that’s coming from a fan lol

Notice I didn’t mention Mary Sue and Rose I could live with that had they fixed 1-10 for me.

I will be there first show opening night for TROS I am not a delusional ****.

Ok, but again you are simply critiquing what you didnt like.

The only thing in that list that remotely comes up with an original idea is number 3. Most people would have liked to see all the OT character join up again.

My point is again, what would you have liked to see....not what did you not like.

As I've mentioned before, I would have loved to have seen a Nolanesque (yes, he would have done it) ST with Hamill as a grizzled badass Jedi co-lead (think "Logan") traveling alongside a young protege co-star, searching for Han as kind of a Jabba-like crime boss that Leia left long ago. The protege could still have been Han/Leia's son, Leia trying hard amidst a failing/crumbling/bitterly divided galactic government. A journey to discover what the force is - like a monastery where there's dozens of Yoda monks or whatever, Luke hunted by a shattered but fast rising Empire that's still hiding in the shadows, only spies and a hidden new leader that seems to know Luke's every move. More like what we've seen of Mandalorian so far, or Rogue One in tone.

While it might not have been the four quadrant tentpole that makes $2B for Disney, it would have been in keeping with an honoring the older OT's stars as co-leads, not as "you're wise and old and now you must die." The SW audience is older than anyone seems to understand (there is no major "new generation of SW fans,") and they want something that creatively informs the OT, deepens it through the filter of age, not rips it off, cheapens it or mocks it.

I like that.

Jesus that sure is an epic post by TB.

One of the best SW story ideas i’ve ever read.

If you will please excuse me I need to go get trashed now.

I still like Rogue One and Solo so I don't feel this applies to me.

Brilliant.

And I know that it wouldn't be the most popular way to go but prior to TFA I hoped that they'd follow in the footsteps of "Unforgiven" and "Rocky Balboa" by opening with Leia having recently passed with Han in the William Munny/Rocky role and Luke reconnecting as his comrade in arms. They didn't even need it to be another galactic conflict, just something small and character driven like those other two films.
