If the spoilers are true, then his character arc makes zero sense. He's a pointless character. Han's death is also pointless. Luke's role pointless too.

Hasn't that been a relatively consistent point throughout this trilogy already? At least they would be... consistent.

I mean, with the exception of killing off the OT characters, nothing has been accomplished in this trilogy so far. We're right back to where we were before TFA started.

That rumor about 2 movies can't be true, as everyone is reporting that pre ticket sales start right after the trailer tomorrow night during Monday Night Football. So no way they can make drastic changes now. Unless in the next 24 hours Disney makes some official statement which would look really bad and do even more harm to this **** show.

They can still sell tickets tonight for whatever "thing" they end up releasing this December and then have it end on a cliffhanger so that we can all go see "The Plateau of Skywalker" with the real ending this summer or next Christmas. It's Disney/KK's SW after all so nothing is off the table, lol.

Sheev Palpatine. Wasn't his first name originally something else?

His name used to be Cos Palpatine, more or less unofficially, cause at one point Lucas had jokingly named him Cos Da**** cause he's the guy that caused da ****.

Well, in real life we all don't get a meaningful death scene, and our roles are pointless as well. I guess this being a space opera fantasy, we can expect big grandiose deaths, but it's not very realistic.

I'd have been happier just never having to see Han Solo or Luke Skywalker die onscreen, or in any form of media really.

JJ would've needed to film and have an awful lot of unused footage to be able to take a single 2 1/2 hour movie due for release in 2 months and potentially turn it into a near 5 hour 2 part movie. He'd have to cut out in the middle of the story to leave a cliff hanger. Sure, they could add more fluff for part 2, but they need enough shots already to be able to release a part 1 in 2 months.

You say that as if KK is incapable of taking any action that will have disastrous results. ;)

They could easily edit a version with a cliffhanger and extend whatever they have in the can over the next 2 years of new filming.

They won't but they could. Cutting a 'head-scratching cliffhanger' would probably be easier than cutting a 'satisfying ending' to all of this.

Pretty much the only way the ST could remain relevant would be to never end.

Its amazing to me that in 5-6 years of time to actually work on the overall story that no one seemed to think it was worth the effort to try and tie all of this into a unifying whole. No one (this includes KK and JJ obviously as well as Disney who paid for all this) thought it was money well spent to at least set-up pay-offs in the 2nd film that would work nicely into the 3rd film. ESB gave us a love story and a frozen Han to come back for... besides the "I am your father" moment which became a point of debate for 3 years before ROTJ. The ST did none of that. There's no character arc that carries over with any suspense or crucial question of 'what's going to happen'. The only real mystery here seems to be 'how are they going to kill off Carrie'?

It really seems like they are "just making this up as they go" -- a lesson KK really swallowed to its literal conclusion from her gofer days on Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Not a single optimist in the thread.

It os possible it could be a great film.....

Not that anyone will ever admit of it were.

Sent from the inside of a giant slug in outer space.....
