But good luck finding a director lol.

I like the "hot tips" that it will be either Rian or J.J. But maybe they need to look beyond the "bespectacled white male" demographic.

I mean, I can't even tell them apart...

Interesting article.

Here's a nice tidbit:

But to hear speculation from a ranking Hollywood movie insider with direct knowledge of the productions on both The Book of Henry and Jurassic World (and who requested anonymity out of concern for sensitive ongoing business relationships), Trevorrow’s firing may have come more directly as a consequence of being “difficult.”

“During the making of Jurassic World, he focused a great deal of his creative energies on asserting his opinion,” the executive explains. “But because he had been personally hired by Spielberg, nobody could say, ‘You’re fired.’ Once that film went through the roof and he chose to do Henry, [Trevorrow] was unbearable. He had an egotistical point of view— and he was always asserting that.”

Then, during preproduction on Episode IX, Trevorrow’s relationship with Lucasfilm top brass became reportedly “unmanageable” over the course of “repeated stabs at multiple drafts” of the script.

“When the reviews for Book of Henry came out, there was immediately conjecture that Kathy was going to dump him because they weren’t thrilled with working with him anyway,” the executive continues. “He’s a difficult guy. He’s really, really, really confident. Let’s call it that.”

Directors by definition are supposed to have control of a production. I guess when there's too much interference from the suits, something has to give.

That said, the studio interference in RO was probably for the better.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - May 24, 2019

Mr. Trevorrow was just reminded that directors main reason for existence is because suits don't go into the dirty trenches of 14 hour filming days every day for months.

Suits come up with the story and directors go into the filming war zone and implement suits vision.

Directors story opinions have a ceiling.

He hit that ceiling and was crushed by it lol

Can you really blame them? They want to use the Marvel formula; pump out as many decent "safe" movies as possible as opposed to a risky "100% director vision" movie every few years. And they aren't going to let anyone give them a hard time about it. I am absolutely relieved Tomorrow isn't doing IX lol. If Jerktastic World was anything to go by, we dodged a bullet there.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - May 24, 2019

Well there's then the dilema right.

Was Trevorrow ever even talented and competent enough to know what is required to make quality SW than Disney does.

Juat imagine that imbalance for a second, a single director vs Disney CEO/Kennedy/Disney Producers/Disney Writers and probably even George Lucas lol

But now ask yourself this, JJ Abrams is a Spielberg protege and he survived yet another Spielberg protege Trevorrow did not, why was that?

I don't even know why I was never a fan. Cloverfield was the only thing I enjoyed of his.

I rewatched TFA lastnight, every resistance war room scene involving Starkiller base is painful to watch.

SW lite. Zero tension. Just actors spitting out lines one after the other.

That also bugged me in RO during their group meeting at the rebel base.

The last time SW had a 100% unfiltered director's vision we got the PT. Which was OK with me, cos it was the creator's vision.

Jye your signature is the stuff of nightmares. If snoke was tagging that and woke to that face everyday he could possibly be the best villain ever

JJ Abrams officially writing and directing Ep IX. Cue the ROTJ parallel jokes.

Abrams is very powerful in the business. He'll get to do his movie. Trevorrow, Lord, Miller, Edwards, Trank...they don't wield Abrams' power.

Bringing Abrams back is actually the suits' way of saying "We ****ed up. We micromanaged Trevorrow to hell until he bailed (just like Lord and Miller did) so now we gotta lower our heads and go back to letting an auteur be an auteur - because it'll salvage our **** up and make us another billion+."

This is all good for SW. It shows the suits know when to take a step back even if it hurts their pride.

This whole thing is a big win for the auteur.
