Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - May 24, 2019

They're his shows, his decisions -- and if not, then he bailed responsibility and its still his fault.

Etc: Felicity, Cloverfield, Star Trek 2, TFA... Good god, do I really have to spell it out for you, man? Google.

This is the problem, and the same issue with most all JJ's stuff -- it's like bubblegum: enjoyable at first but quickly looses its flavor.

Maybe google some details on who was actually responsible for all the shows/movies you're laying on Abrams. Also what a finale is. And executive producer.
Or don't. Facts are pesky. You can "meh" all day long (and you sure seem to) but you're not spelling out ****. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - May 24, 2019

Okay I saw the news so I have to chime in here. Abrams *will* deliver a better SW film than Trevorrow would have and he's a prequel denying homeboy which is also good.

However...there's no way the finale of the last film in the Sequel Trilogy can top RO now. He even said on the TFA commentary that he basically didn't even try to make the attack on Starkiller Base that amazing because "once they attack the base you already know they're going to blow it up." So while I'm happy that Episode IX got an upgrade from Trevorrow I'm still a little bummed that whatever final battle they show will most likely just be Abrams going through the motions again.

I loved how Han/Kylo and Rey/Kylo played out in TFA though so at least there's still a good chance that he knocks the more intimate character drama out of the park. And I do think that he took the "it's just a copy of ANH" criticisms personally so I'm sure we won't see just a ROTJ rehash.

I should probably try to figure out a way to get paid for this crap lol

And the release date has changed for the second time, back to December.

Despite Trevorrow's travails, at some point LFL felt confident enough to bring it forward seven months.

Two smart decisions in one day. Go LFL!

What...? That's your response? To an adult?

I answered your question and now you say I didn't spell it out. You want to write me off as a "meh", go ahead.

I'd suggest that anyone who is trying to argue do some research on their position. Especially when they have the cheek to challenge someone else to "google it."

You didn't answer my question - you just posted (or repeated) more irrelevant/incorrect info, other than Felicity.

I don't know why you'd be offended. You miust at the very least be aware that that the things you're saying don't really support your argument about Abrams &
finales. :dunno

OK, which JJ projects are you saying he is not responsible for exactly of the ones I mentioned? You make it sound like he has no say on any of them.

Writer and Director of R1 were not Prequel denying homeboys... That turned out great.. I don't care for those films but they have some interesting things.

As for Abrams directing 9.... All is probably lost for me :(

I seriously hate TFA and it is starting to become my least fav SW film.. It might be a bit better then AOTC but at least Clones did not screw with our Hero's future for the OT. I hated what they did to Han, Leia, and Luke by ruining everything they worked for.. Perhaps a better film / filmmaker could have pulled that off but JJ was not the man for the Job. The new characters were average at best... But that is the fault of the script also... Kylo is still such a dork... How can anyone take him seriously?

I am still willing to give this series a chance and perhaps if the new one is good and does things right then JJ will follow. But TFA is the least imaginative of the series in both story and visuals. So I am not holding onto too much hope.

JJ has done some good things. I like MI3 and the first Star Trek Reboot.. Cloverfield is a fav of mine. But I hated ST2 and TFA.... So who knows..

I am really hoping the new film takes these characters and makes them much more interesting. Otherwise this new series will be crap.

I think they were. They totally crapped on the idea of the Geonosians engineering the Death Star and refused to call Mustafar and Coruscant by name. :)

I seriously hate TFA

Oh come on let's not get carried away. ;) But otherwise yeah based on your previous reviews of TFA I can understand how this new announcement would be terrible news for you, lol. No matter what we'll always have RO/OT though. :D

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - May 24, 2019

Well with JJ at the helm we can be certain that there will be more rehash and certainly no more innovation in the trilogy. It will be safe and sorry.

If nothing else, the PT was innovative in its designs (particularly TPM)

Did Coruscant even appear? I thought that was Hosnian Prime.

Real prequel denial would have been not even showing Mustafar. I always thought Vader should live on a Star Destroyer, not a planet.

And 22 years after Dooku received the Death Star plans (and 19 years after the end of the Trade Federation), and with a xenophobic Emperor, it should be no surprise the Death Star was a fully Imperial (and human) project by then.

As much as I was disappointed by Ep I, I instantly recognised the Trade Federation battleships in the opening seconds as forerunners of the Death Star.

Yep, I'll repeat my oft-repeated phrase:

TFA/RO = better made
PT = more original

But I'd still put ROTS above the new movies.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - May 24, 2019

TFA/RO = better made
PT = more original

I can agree with that.

Although I will say that the 'palm trees and ocean' backdrop of RO was one of the most original landscapes in a very long time. I never would have thought a Star Wars movie would fit in so well there.

I was really sick of Coruscant by the end of the PT.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - May 24, 2019

Sure I can admit that uncle george created some new material for the PT but what good is originality if it stinks!

JAWS has very legitimate gripes against TFA that I agree with but I would rather watch TFA than any of the PT including ROTS, which has some cool elements in it but just not enough to elevate it into any semblance of a legit film.

I really find it hard to watch TFA. Maybe because its on every five minutes for the last year. Maybe a few years away would warm my ice cold heart of Russian steel.

"Safe and sorry "

I couldn't have put it better myself. This is very disappointing news. It's looking more like Rogue One might end up being the exception in these new movies. Still hoping to be delightfully surprised with TLJ, but it's sad to know now that regardless of how terrific it may end up, we already know it's going to be followed by a whiteboard - rendered mediocrity.

Maybe Howard will surprise us with HS...
