They all do now, even Finn. :lol

As a janitor in the First Order he was, after all, an honorary broom boy.

Only a $175 million opening; way down from both previous movies. I don't think this movie is going to hit a billion at the box office.

I never would have believed 7 years after the Disney purchase the most valuable film franchise on the planet would crater and become worthless. Disney should erect a monument to Kennedy's ineptitude right in the middle of the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Blvd.

On top of that, Daisy did make some hurtful remarks to the Republicans... " delibarately question their sanity because they support Trump". It was all over Fox News. How would you percieve this affront going to affect the domestic box office ?

This untalented "actress" is an idiot, this whold damn clown trilogy is destined to fail...miserably.

Yep, news reporting $176M. The lowball 'safe' number that Disney was touting just in case. I didn't think those $190M earlier estimates were correct. But I did think Disney would lie about performance... so maybe its not even $176.

Probably not going to affect it all that noticeably, considering the racists and sexists that were angry about the last one.

Another one just popped into my head...

The Emperor has to be the dumbest **** in the universe - how many times does he have to be whipped with his own lighting? Maybe he needs to install an on/off button.

Oh yeah, he is also every voice in their heads and orchestrated everything over the 9 films... but he couldn't see she was going to "pass the lightsaber through the force" to Kylo?

Yeah, the Emperor is all over it (except when the story says he can't be). :rotfl

Okay...

If I had to choose, mine is probably still this moment:

But without the added ?No.....NOOOOO!?

I always liked the original version where he was silent. Ironically, I thought the added ?NOOOOO!? took away from the drama of the moment, while I?m sure Lucas probably felt it added to it. I always liked the fact that he was silently deciding in his head what to do, and simply made his choice without needing to scream. His actions alone did the talking.

100000000% agree.

I had a feeling prior to this film's release that it might only do about $750-800 million. That's fine. They can call it a day with the films and explore other parts of the galaxy on Disney+.

People are talking about Disney as if they?re Kmart about to close their doors lol

What are they up to now this year in box office.

Just baby yoda merch alone already covered any losses from TROS lol

Oh lordie... too many pages to wade through...

Well, I saw it on Saturday, but it's been a busy weekend, so did't have much time to write down my thoughts, although I did peek in here now and then. I see that, as expected, this one's pretty devisive as well.

I liked. It was great fun, and despite a lot of WTF moments, I had a blast sitting there in the theatre. I think that's the key difference between this and TLJ, that the story and characters were handled in such a way, that despite its obvious flaws, the movie works and is entertaining.
This movie's biggest drawback is probably TLJ. It had to work so hard at explaining things and doing "course correction" that it was always going to feel both bloated and rushed. That it manages to remain entertaining enough to gloss over the less its successful aspects is a wonder. Personally, I don't think they needed to back-pedal so much regarding the Force, Luke and the Jedi... the damage was done, so just move on with a decent story and get it over with.

I started writing my thoughts, but nah... I can't be bothered :rotfl

Suffice it to say that I enjoyed it. It doesn't save this trilogy, but it does save the new characters. IMHO Rey is finally likeable, Kylo is definitely the most interesting character, Poe and Finn fulfil the promise of their characters. The old guard couldn't really be saved after TFA and TLJ, which is a shame, but they were always meant to just hand over the torch.

Some initial thoughts...

I'm gonna need further info on this Force dyad thing. Based on the movie's explanation, I kinda thought Kylo would be able to bring Rey back and survive the effort, given their extremely rare bond and the apparent power it granted. I won't lie - I'm bummed he didn't make it. A lot of my friends are arguing it was the only way he could redeem himself, but I'm torn. Part of the problem is just that he was so compelling compared to Rey, who despite the actress' best efforts was bland (in my opinion). I honestly figured she'd be far more upset at the end, too, again because of this mystical bond. From the way it's described, it seems like she'd be losing a part of herself forever. She took his passing fairly well, though. :rotfl I wish he had appeared as a Force ghost at the end. Just seems like he should have been there.

The Rise of Skywalker? More like the death of their line... Rey can take the name all she wants - the Skywalkers were destroyed forever. That's a big victory for Palpatine.

Some of the new characters were shockingly pointless. Also shockingly pointless? Finn's Force sensitivity.

I didn't hate it, but....I'm unsure how I feel about it. Need to see it a second time.

I disagree with this. Rey showed up on Crait with no other air support, flew around in the Falcon shooting down Tie Fighters left and right and didn't die. Rose crashed into Finn right in front of the AT-ATs and they didn't get killed. The story could have easily been written to have Luke return in the third movie and it would have been better for it seeing as the movie is called The Rise of Skywalker. I think the projection thing is kind of weak when it would be more powerful and redeeming for him to return in person to make up for his mistakes and the X-Wing thing in Rise of Skywalker makes it worse because it shows that that would have been very possible for him to do. I didn't like the force projection thing in The Last Jedi in the first place, but at least it could be explained away by the fact that he didn't have a way to get off of the island.

I was talking specifically about his use of the force projection at that particular moment in TLJ. As it was written, I saw that as a fearless, strategic act and akin to Obi-wan encouraging Han & Luke to use stealth rather than fight against overwhelming odds. It also paralleled Obi-wan engaging Darth in that lightsaber duel which drew troops away from the Falcon and allowed Luke & company to escape the Death Star in ANH. The part that was disappointing was his dying afterwards. I would have preferred his fighting side-by-side with Rey in TROS, but that wasn't to be. I wasn't going to let that ruin the movie for me.

You know Disney though won't they take a sub-billion performance as an abject failure? Not that I care either way of course since I got the movie that I wanted regardless.

And I'm used to movies I love underperforming, from BR 2049 to Alita. I do think that if TROS underperforms immediately after Solo then it does solidify the failure of KK and what she allowed RJ to get away with, especially since TROS is so good IMO. I knew that Disney's allowance of RJ, Pablo Hidalgo, and other idiots on their payroll years long blasting of fans on social media would backfire when those same fans decided to stay home as a matter of principle.

So how was the 3D in this? I opted for 2D Dolby Laser with Atmos since I've decided that 2D 2.35:1 is the "proper" way for a SW film to be presented. Were any sequences expanded for IMAX?

The hyperbole is strong with this one.

Typical apologist talking point. In total denial of Star Wars losing money. A quick Google search will reveal a number of CEOs commenting on how Star Wars branded revenue is way down from previous years, specifically after the release of TLJ. TFA made 2.5 billion dollars at the Box Office and four years later the last movie of the saga will be lucky to make 1/4 of that. Anyone who thinks that's OK does not understand the film business at all or how media franchises work. You are supposed to trend in the opposite direction like the Avengers. Going from revenues of 2.5 billion to 700 million is cratering. Disney shareholders are not happy.

Bringing Luke back to life as the badass Jedi he is supposed to be would have to put a lot more asses in theatre seats this weekend.
