Very true. Qui Gonn and Obi Wan tapping into the Speed Force in TPM was the wrong franchise. Someone should've warned George not to cross the streams. :lecture

I didn't play the video games but from what I saw they were straight up ridiculous. Yanking Star Destroyers outta the sky and disintegrating stormtroopers with your mind ... does not a Jedi make. Well I guess it does now. :dunno

The Tartakovsky one where he's beating up Battle Droids with his bare hands and doing other superhero stuff? Or the Filoni series? I never did see Filoni's CW in its entirety. I avoided the more kid-oriented episodes and couldn't stand what he did with the Force.

I can never remember or even begin to spell that guys name from the CW cartoon lol

My point though is that Lucas made them superheroes not Disney.

I can agree with that. I think the more fantastic force powers are better left to video games and comic books. It?s a bit easier to swallow if it?s a cartoon picture rather than a real live person.

The Force Unleashed video game was just such an experiment. Starkiller Aprentice could pull a Star Destroyer out of the sky and levitate in the air to create a force explosion killing everyone within a 40 foot diameter.

I think Rey?s death would have been a better ending and had a greater impact if Ben couldn?t force heal her or transfer his force energy into her. It would have given us that End Game loss that hit us in the feels with Tony and Nat. Plus given us the hero?s sacrificial death that really meant something. I?m not a fan of the movie but I think I would have seen it as a bit more serious if that would have happened.

That definitely would have been an interesting way to go, but when you're killing off 2 of your 5 lead characters in the same movie (I'm not counting Luke), they were never going to be both women.

I?m actually split on that, part of me does think Rey dying would?ve actually been more impactful.

Meaning that the Vader bloodline would?ve actually lived this time after taking out Palpatine.

Rey dies like Maximus.

Kylo carries her out and says Honor Her.

Kylo leads the resistance.

Would?ve definitely been a tear jerker.

Weird.....right.

Yes...No...Maybe

That?s why i?m torn on it.

I think that maybe they made the right decision.

Movie is still boring anyways lol

Yeah...I also remember that character whining and yelling "Leave me alone!!" in a shrill, emo teenager voice. Proto-Kylo.

Interesting idea, but no way were they gonna disappoint all those little girls. Just us grown-ass men. :lol

Oh of course. :) I know that for the writers maintaining and continuing the established canon it's like herding an army of cats with all that's been added to the lore over the past 40+ years so all I ask is that they at least get all the cats in the same *room* and then I'll do the rest to connect the dots myself. Hell if they *did* sync everything perfectly and obviously then I'd probably be a little bummed because getting to hypothesize like we have been is a huge part of the fun, lol. :D

I would agree... But as I said several pages back, that is part of the fun.

I like when there are some holes to fill in and everything isn't spelled out for us.

My imagination was much better than "chosen ones" and midichlorians.

I'm in agreement with you both 100%. Those were possibly the two biggest gripes that I have with PT. Leave in the "Fantasy" part and keep the galaxy from shrinking.

Edited to add: I hit the post button to quickly... I love these discussions as well but I found it amusing that it is us trying to shoehorn some logic/direction/emotions into the ST when the actual writers never got this deep. I will admit that the pre-PT days were grand, as not everything was spelled out and it allowed the fans to really go nuts in trying to fill in the blanks.

My 2nd favorite SW experience AFTER the OT remains the build up to the SE/PT in 95-96-97 and even 98 so 1 year post SE.

But pre SE was amazing going to the Liberty Science Imax Dome to get the first glimpse of the SE!

Then all of those super expensive viewings at the Ziegfeld theater with that big audience.

Killed my wallet but warmed my soul.

My Galoob action fleet collection was huge lol

Then came the dark times soon after.

:rotfl

Yep, that build-up was amazing. I remember the line from George lucas, "... THESE are the versions that i envisioned back then but the technology was not available to make it happen..."

Some of it was ok, like the X-wing take off and forming up scenes in ANH but it also brought us the "Greedo shot first" and the Jabba "human being" scenes... :monkey4

Oh god I vividly remember upon first seeing the Han/Greedo changes everyone had a look of horror even worse than Han stepping over that damn tail lol

But one thing I will give the SE.

Best Trailers EVER!

The PT must represent one of the greatest modern mysteries in movies/entertainment. How the person responsible for creating the OT could have also created the PT, and only two decades apart - one conceived/developed in the mid 1970s, the other in the mid 1990s.

More than anything it conclusively proved that the OT was collaborators together authoring more of SW than GL alone - that GL may have only really been 20-30% of the OT (in terms of key creative choices and original ideas,) even if that percentage was the gateway that all other contributions had to pass.

So very true. :exactly:

Funny how art imitates life. :lol

But it was a good time. The trilogy was released on a video boxset that had Vader's face on the cover, my brother bought the new SW toys and vehicles, thus reclaiming the collection my mother got rid of in 1985. We were all rejoicing the return of SW. I even saw people dacing on my street, but perhaps that wasn't SW related. Still, all was well. A brief victory....

Remember we first experienced - and fondly remember - the OT from a time when we hadn?t seen anything like it before.

By the time the PT rolled around audience experience and expectations were much higher, and competition much more intense.

For example The Matrix showed up TPM something fierce.

But say what you will about the acting and directing, I’d still put the PT’s concepts, world building, visual design and effects against any of its contemporaries.

The Matrix and LOTR trilogies are the only others from that era I really remember.

Anyway, you're clearly in the OT group. The one that prefers a little bit of mystery, likes the fantasy elements, and the mystery behind the mythology, making the SW universe feel larger.

Very well put and I would agree.. That is where I am :)

However just to point out.

Overall first time viewing I enjoyed the PT. As weird and awkward as it all was... I still had fun with it.

TPM - Weird experience... I liked some parts and was shocked at how bad other parts were... Still enjoyed it overall. Mostly because of Pod Racing and Saber duel.
AOTC - I actually thought this was a better movie then TPM... Mostly because No Jar Jar?
TORS - I enjoyed this one also and at the time thought it was the best of the PT

However, and this is weird, TPM, IMO holds up the best of the three films.. I actually find enjoyment out of it. I do think much of that is Nostalgia and the fact that it has the least amount of Green Screen.

I think AOTC is the worst SW film and really find ROTS to be kinda boring and frustrating.

So I am not a full on hater of the PT.. I can watch them and find enjoyment out of them.

I just dislike the acting, overall direction the story went, and many of the goofy ideas... But its SW so I still find enjoyment out of them.

But I see them as bad movies overall... If it did not take place in the world of SW, I am sure I would have never gave them a second thought. Like that Carter movie... Cant remember the title right now.. But that's because I never gave it a second thought :lol

TPM hated right away opening night

AOTC hated right away opening night

ROTS enjoyed some parts hated other parts opening night
