What player do you use? I see that Oppo just announced that they're getting out of the A/V game.

What else but an Oppo lol

Yeah it’s really sad to see them go.

My firmware is current so i’m good.

Discs will never completely die look at LPs.

But if studios want me to buy only digital then lower the price of the movies another $5.00-$10.00 because they no longer need to press, print, package and ship.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Going back to the Top Films of 2017 thread I see that out of my Top 6 for the year I only saw TLJ in 3D in the theater and actually prefer the 2D version anyway:

1. Blade Runner 2049
2. The Last Jedi
3. A Ghost Story
4. Wind River
5. Dunkirk
6. Lady Bird

If it was still available on new TV's and widely supported I'd stick with it but each year it seems that my favorite films tend not to be the ones that are released in 3D in the first place.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Well not sure the 70" screens have the 3D anyway, so my 3D days may be over when I go to a larger screen. Or I guess my current 55" will go into the den or bedroom.

I wish all media lasted as long as LP's.

Where's my TLJ VHS lol.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Thanks. Yeah I'm letting that projector screen go and will replace it with OLED and then will keep my current 3D 1080p display in the other living area upstairs.

You don’t mind the smaller size? I just made a theatre room for myself recently as well (I think I went too far though :lol), and though it doesn’t compare to the oled I still wouldn’t want to lose that option of size.

Unfortunately the sub I got was a dud that gave up after 5 goes so I’m waiting on the replacement.. another week.

I remember seeing a HD TV demo back in the early 1990's (Proton sold a few of those in the mid 90's) - it doesn't compare to today's screens, but its amazing how long the tech has been around.

And 3D - my 3D Sony Blu player (3 years old) died the other day and there just doesn't seem to be enough 3D Blus nowadays to warrant buying another 3D player.

Maybe iTunes has 3D movies - I have no idea where people go to buy new home video releases other than itunes and google play. Blu Ray seems to be becoming VHS faster than I thought.

Blurays are certainly not as in demand as digital is gaining speed - but I wouldn’t call them VHS either as digital can never compare to the amount of visual info stored on a disc. It’s not such a big deal for audio but if you want the best look blurays are definitely the way to go.

But personally any movie that’s more a ‘talkie’ I don’t mind having digitally but the the really visual films I’ll always get a bluray.

How many Star Wars VHS tapes do people have loitering in some box somewhere, with or without the "THX" logo?

I recently found that I owned ROTS on DVD - no idea how that even happened. I still have my OT Laserdisc box set - I wonder how those "grails" of the day hold up in terms of resolution to a standard DVD.

That's good to know Blu still has an edge on digital. I would hate to be a disc manufacturer of any kind these days though (unless you're like a porn bootlegger in Thailand or something:lol.)

What sucks is that now that I've gotten used to seeing the 110 inch in the basement a freaking 80 inch might feel small.
:banghead :lol

But I think it will be worth it for the uptick in picture quality. Good luck with the new sub.

Sucks about Oppo. I guess I'll have to check out the Panasonic UB9000 as possibly being my first 4K player.

Yeah watching those "rough" Grindhouse editions of ESB and ROTJ at home had me wondering if they were still better pictures than my 1995 THX laserdiscs, lol.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I'm buying a new TV to watch it. And my old TV (LG smart HD 42") is still decent. My wife had me deliberately buy a smaller 42" so the TV wouldn't have so much prominence in the room but.. the new QLED is looking pretty, pretty good and it seems like minimum 55" is a must.:lol

I think in England its two weeks.

[emoji119] I am currently in a one bedroom apartment until I graduate and hopefully get a house. My TV is just a 48 inch Samsung UHD. I have a samsung 4K player and it does me just fine for the time being. But BR 2049 looks jaw dropping in 4K! Also check out the original in 4K. I hope Ridley Scott gets Alien in 4K soon. The image is just stunning.

You're a painter? That's awesome man! I hope you post your work. :duff But yeah Crait was gorgeous. Man I love it when the speeders start going serpentine and the red plumes go every which way. Those wide shots of Kylo and Luke facing off against each other were incredible too.

Yeah I draw and paint mostly. I dont have the time I once did but some images from TLJ and BR 2049 have me agonizing to start! I should really just be single for a while so I can have more time to do the hobbies I love. Zelda Breath of the Wild occupied way too much time for me this past year. I'll share sometime when I take decent photos of anything. I did a charcoal from Fury Road that I'm pretty proud of also.

How old are you cereal? I thought you were in your 40's like the rest of us old timers. ;)

I am. 41 and counting....did a career change and decided to do what made me happy and that's be an art teacher. Trust me it's not for the money but I love it. It's a bit of a start over but whatever I get to nerd out with kids and teach them painting and ceramics. As long as I have enough to get a house and get my HT collection back and running [emoji23] so many figures I want to pick up. I am picking up Anakin and Jedi Luke. As soon as they announce Crait Luke....my head will explode!

It's really nice to see someone else say that. I made a career change ten years ago to go into teaching and while I won't get rich teaching; I do love what I do and it's been incredibly rewarding.

TLJ is garbage meant for soy men with little peckers who are afraid of women with big noses like your Rian’s and Junkion’s of the world.

Kelly Tran is an asian pug who has no business being around men.

Holdo was a disgusting filthy whore.

Whew I feel better now.

All new Blu ray or 4K players play 3D now.

Also, interesting thing I noticed, VUDU massively expanded their 3D library in the past few weeks. Went from 40 offerings to over 200!

I imagine there must be some demand for it if VUDU bothered to add so many titles.

Thor Ragnarok and Jumanji 2, which aren't available in 3D in the USA, are available on VUDU.
