Well, the visual dictionary has already been retconned, cause the comic is CANON!

And in the comic, some mystery Jedi/robed character is waiting at the bottom of the chasm and catches the saber.

Yep. Just standing there. At the bottom of some miles long chasm. Watching with binoculars or something while Luke and Vader fight, just waiting for that saber. Pretty convenient. Pretty weird. Where'd the hand go?

(It's not entirely outlandish of an idea to retrieve the saber. I personally never liked it, but it was "EU canon" pretty much since the early 90s with Heir to the Empire. In that book it was the same thing...they retrieve it from the mines but it still has Luke's hand attached, and they make a Luke clone from the DNA....called....Luuke. Yeah. And if I'm not mistaken, Mara Jade used it as her main lightsaber for a while before she got her own, so there must have been some story where it got destroyed or lost for good back in the old EU but I never read it.)

Yep. The "canon" is an absolute joke right now. A major reason the term "canon" gets used so often is because a good number of fans want to know that the stories they invest their time in "count." Well, the number of contradictions and compromises in the Disney SW canon over the last couple of months is clearly proving one thing to those fans: don't waste your time with this crap. That's the message I'm getting for sure.

I've been one of the fools buying and reading a bunch of the "new canon" material because I assumed they'd be making an effort to keep a cohesive universe of stories that could all "count." I mean, wasn't a key function of the "Story Group" to prevent contradictions? So much for that. :lol

I greatly enjoyed several of the novels, but so many aspects have been retconned lately that I have no interest in reading any future material. And I doubt I'm the only one who will go from buying this stuff regularly to not buying anything at all.

It should've been easy. They started from scratch by throwing out all of those EU stories. You'd think that having a group dedicated to a cohesive new canon wouldn't have such a hard time coordinating this stuff. Yet here we are with worthless printed stories now telling alternate versions of events. It's probably only a matter of time before the Disney+ shows start having the same problem.

I count them as movies so yes D+ lol

Good old modern audiences, lol. They're mad when something isn't explained and then get mad when it is explained.

"Ah so someone found the lightsaber and gave it to Maz. Pretty straight forward I guess, we cool now?"

Modern audience:

Why give all the answers? Keep the fans on the hook for future movies/comics /novels etc. Why do so many seem to need all minute details spoon fed to them? An inference here and there to keep the story moving on. Don't forget that SW since it's inception has been plagued by numerous gaping plot holes, that get filled in from time to time, and always not always to the 'fans'' satisfaction.

Cause they made it seem like a big deal when it?s not. They made it seem like it was going to be an interesting story but it?s not.

Earlier in the book it says: "Maz promises to someday tell the story of how she acquired it."

Presumably Disney are preparing to milk that story for a novel or a comic book.

Early leaks reveal it will actually be about the travels of *Palpatine's* ROTS saber thus undermining the entire legacy of Anakin's weapon! :cuss

Old news. The TROS visual dictionary already stated that it was salvaged by the mining colony on Cloud City and later sold to Maz.

What a boring story. No wonder she saved it for another time.:lol

Some miner found it and sold it to her? That's it? Maz just a random buyer of a random object - so why is she considered significant in the ST story then?:dunno

Later leaks suggest that Palpatine's saber was magnified in strength by sucking light force from other lightsabers. It was then able to project a blade across miles of space, thereby becoming the most unbeatable saber in history.

Not to worry, though: the saber will simply defeat itself by refusing to turn off and then explode in such a way that will conveniently destroy thousands of saber acolytes that helped preserve it. :yess:

Is she? :lol

Later we'll learn that a bounty hunter was hired to retrieve Yoda's little training saber until he gets attached to it and refuses to let it go! :love

It really is hard to neglect such a cute saber.

All this lost saber talk (and the fact that Trevorrow was going to have Hux acquire Mace's saber) has me trying to account for all of the missing lightsabers we saw in the movies.

Dooku's saber: Anakin used it to kill him, but I don't think we saw it since.

Yoda's saber: Fell down the pit in the senate chambers, never to be seen again.

Mace's saber: Probably ended up on the streets of Coruscant.

Kenobi's saber: I'm hoping Vader kept it after Obi-Wan's body disappeared; but still unaccounted for.

Vader's saber: Fell down the DS2 pit, presumably lost in the subsequent explosion.

Luke's green saber: Perhaps still on Ahch-To?

Kylo's saber: Floating in the ocean around DS2 wreckage.

So many more potential stories for another time! Good to know that SW comic book writers still have plenty to work with. :lol
