This is one Star Wars project that I honestly don’t care about.
Pretty much. Space battles are cool when there’s like one per movie and it lasts 5 minutes.Yeah regardless of who directs it I've just never seen the appeal in the idea. I love me some X-wings but don't need an entire movie centered around a bunch of X-wing pilots. And at this point it's likely going to feel like a pale imitation of Top Gun Maverick anyway.
Probably another Mandalorian tie-in.Can't remember is this to be set during the OT, the ST, in between? When?
Or was it never said?
Masters of the Air is really good. My chemistry teacher in high school had been a B24 pilot during WW2. He used to tell the class about some of his missions and the friends he lost, most of them were 18–19-years old.Has anyone seen Masters of the Air? It's based on a true story and purported to be very accurate: about B-17 crews in WWII. While not perfect, the nine episode series is very good and shows you the unbelievable conditions these guys flew in -- at times daily. I don't know how they did it. These were real people. Just young men in their 20s.
I can't imagine anyone but Gilroy pulling off a version of Star Wars space combat with even a tenth of the tension and brutality on display in this series (given, they're different animals). It's the only way to make it compelling IMO ... if you're going to have a whole series about fighter pilots you need to not know who's making it out alive.
