People aren't just reacting poorly to a single, two-minute trailer. They've become disillusioned by a slew of ****y new entries into the Star Wars cinematic universe that have all been ruined by the same idiotic choices that many assume will plague this latest entry. It's hard not to be negative when a majority of Star Wars media has ranged from trash to mediocre.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume people are racist or "counting the white faces." However, when it's a clear directive in Hollywood, to focus on any race and gender but white and male, people are going to take notice and make their criticisms. Any group can be discriminated against, not just minorities. None of it is okay.

Who knows, maybe this new show will be amazing and the naysayers will have to eat crow. I'm not willing to put money on that outcome but one can hope.

The initial post I responded to literally was commenting about the lack of white faces in the trailer. Go check. So yes, they were counting.

But agreed no discrimination is okay, and here’s hoping the show can stand on its own merits.

Tbh I am not sure. Does he speak wookie? Does he speak Basic? Does everyone speak Wookie in this universe? Why is he wearing jedi clothes? Doesn't he get hot. Why doesn't Chewbacca wear clothes? Is Chebacca basically streaking his way through the all the movies?

It just bugs me.

Arguably the third best SW film of all time (Rogue One) didn't have a white male as part of its ensemble cast of heroes but it worked because it was in capable hands and looked awesome from the get go. I can't say either for The Acolyte.

Such a great film. As a Star Wars fan, nowadays, one has to pretty much create their own head canon with the handful of movies and shows that were competently put together. Everything else can (and should) be forgotten.

I'll never understand why people feel attacked by some evil "agenda" simply because there are a greater number of minorities in TV and movies now. And it's bizarre to me that it's the first thing people usually zero in on in these threads. This show looks like it could suck for a huge number of reasons, but fewer white people on screen isn't one of them.

Yeah, I love RO and think that Solo was solid as well. And though I did enjoy the ST when it was released I've pretty much joined the folks who say that the Saga ended with ROTJ's uplifting finale or if I'm feeling generous Mando Season 2 or REALLY generous Mando and Grogu chillin' at the end of Season 3, lol.

I'm still bothered by the fact that (thanks to Episode One) we have this conception that Jedi have a "uniform" with the robes and the cloak and the hood.

Obi-Wan wasn't wearing a uniform. He was dressed as a simple farmer on a desert planet cause he was trying to blend in. He was wearing Uncle Owen's uniform, not the Jedi Order's.

But now of course ALL Jedi wear desert nomad robes ALL the time.

And despite George decreeing that lightsabers are only green or blue, red for sith, and one exception of purple, now we're seeing all the colors of the rainbow again, just like we did during the Episode One merchandising days. (Before George's decree.)

I hate that cause it breaks canon....AGAIN.....but it's Disney, so of course they're gonna wanna maximize their merchandising opportunities. Apparently role-play lightsabers do huge numbers. So they added yellow and white and orange and whatever else.

George had very light involvement with TCW, most of that down to Filoni and his team. Of course, George had different tiers of canon sp did not consider TWC truly canon, he could retcon it any time. Had he kept Star Wars he likely would have overridden TCW's lightsabers eventually

Yet it was still canon and never retconned. He still created the show and was an executive producer on it.

I find it hard to believe that anything was added to the lore without his say so in that show.

Moaning about the colour of lightsaber blades has gotta be the weirdest hill to die on imo.

Did people complain in 1983 when ROTJ added green lightsabers into the mix?

If we could only make new Star Wars based on what was established in the OT then the franchise would be extremely stagnant.

Yeah I've never understood the desire to turn the Jedi into a bunch of solemn monks, because that was never the impression I got from Guinness's portrayal of Obi-Wan or his story about Anakin. He actually made the Jedi seem cool and fun.

Hardly. There was enough in that open-ended universe to make all kinds of content, from novels to movies to comic books to cartoons.

The magic dies for me when Disney decides that the SW universe needs to reflect their ideas and values and resemble what they think our society is "supposed" to be.

As for the lightsaber colors, I'm hardly willing to "die on a hill" for it. Just pointing out the history. Disney chose to ignore that history. I think that's dumb, but whatever. People can buy their yellow $250 glowsticks and wave them around at a convention if that makes them happy.

You need to watch Robot Chicken Star Wars to see Han's reaction to all of Chewie's family wearing clothes...
