Considering each trilogy encompasses a different chunk of time, of course it is not all about the Jedi.
Right now:
1. ESB
2. TFA/ANH
3. ROTJ
I don't see any sense in adding non-SW films to that line-up.

I am trying not to compare it to the OT... Like you said it can't be done... How can any film replicate that magic???
But this film does make me realize how special the OT is... It was lighting in the bottle twice and almost a third time... It's hard to pull that off.

That's why I said "Right now." I *think* that I can confidently say that TFA and ANH are neck and neck behind ESB, but just in case I'm buzzing too much on having finally scene a "true" SW film since the OT I'm allowing for the rankings to change.
But for me TFA:
1. Felt like SW
2. Had characters that I loved (old and new, both good and bad)
3. Had great character interactions
4. Great visuals/exciting battles
5. Genuine surprises (even if the broad strokes were familiar)
5. Was funny
6. And was emotional
I think that #6 is what will keep it up there with ANH, might even surpass it on multiple viewings.
I love how TFA has inspired me to look at the OT in new ways. After seeing what Kylo's group did to the innocent civilians at the beginning I could totally see how Owen and Beru might have been torched by OT era flametroopers that just never appeared on screen.

about the thumbs... I think this is a case where you can write if you want to.... Nothing will change either of our minds.. However I am going to give it another shot in the theater... I think it has a chance to be something better in the following films.. It has good characters to set all that up... It just did not feel like a true SW film to me and did not effect me on any emotional level other then... Meh.. Is that an emotion.
Yeah... I just didn't get that SW feel... I actually believe it was missing Lucas. Not that I wanted him to direct or write but perhaps advise...

Speaking of Lucas, he's done a lot of recent bellyaching that Disney discarded his original treatment for Episode VII in favor of the Arndt/Abrams/Kasdan story. Have any details of Lucas' outline been leaked onto the net?
Nah, I was aware that Han had to die and the box office torch had to be passed on to the new kids, HF wouldn't even do the movie unless he was killed.

I think there are enough shots of Han reacting the certain questions about Rey to indicate he knows her......
As was the final scene.....if I were writing, the last shot would have been the light saber floating out of Reys hand and landing in Luke's hand....and igniting.......thruuujmmmmmmm...cut the John Williams ...

I have heard nothing..
I say what I do about Lucas because he was a pretty good world builder (even though I thought he went overboard with the PT) The planets felt lifeless and not lived in... Something Lucas excelled at. I also loved little moments like the Sand People firing on the Pod Race... Small moments like that that nailed the character perfectly and gave his universe life... The new film was missing that IMO..
I have heard nothing about Lucas script leaks... It would be interesting to see / read... But like I said... It should only be a little Lucas.. Not a lot.
