Meh I am not a fan of ranking .... But as far as we are doing it, I will

With one special condition .....rewatchability.......which is a hallmark to me if a movie is good. Can I re watch it??????

So without further exposition or explanation, my ranking for re watchability.......

1.ESB
2.ANH
3. ROTJ
4. TFA ( almost a tie, Ewoks versus some space ball with teeth scenes are tough to rewatch no matter what)
5. ROTS
6. TPM (save from last by Maul)
7. AOTC ( just awful... I attempted a re watch a few months back....and was horrified by acting/effects and dialogue)

But for me TFA:

1. Felt like SW
2. Had characters that I loved (old and new, both good and bad)
3. Had great character interactions
4. Great visuals/exciting battles
5. Genuine surprises (even if the broad strokes were familiar)
5. Was funny
6. And was emotional

I think that #6 is what will keep it up there with ANH, might even surpass it on multiple viewings.

I love how TFA has inspired me to look at the OT in new ways. After seeing what Kylo's group did to the innocent civilians at the beginning I could totally see how Owen and Beru might have been torched by OT era flametroopers that just never appeared on screen.

The negative critics got it right though...TFA is kind of a re-make of a New Hope just with different characters and similiar story

I hope Episode VIII brings a better movie and story

Quick question, why didn't Kylo Ren use any force powers on Finn? A Force choke or push would have made things a lot easier for himself, in fact, why didn't he just use the force to take the lightsaber out of Finn's grasp?

Is there a decent explanation on why Rey was able to beat Kylo Ren after tapping into her force powers with no knowledge or training of the force at all?

These are the two biggest issues I had, if someone can give me a decent enough excuse I might be able to push this movie up to a 7/10.

Dude that actually makes me like TFA even more. I often wonder what SW would have looked like if the next episode had come out three years after ROTJ to keep the spacing between films the same. Well 1986 was smack dab in the middle of that wacky era of space movies like Spacehunter, Ice Pirates, Spaceballs, Little Shop of Horrors, etc., and those creatures on the freighter would have totally fit right in with that era. ;)

He had been injured by Chewie.

As for Kylo w Finn, kinda figured Kylo wanted to toy with the lesser opponent and was hurt by Chewie, yup...as for Rey, we do not know, yet, how she is able to do as she does.....her character really doesn't either....thus the mystery of it all...

I went to see it again with my Dad. He hates SW, but free popcorn, a drink, and the death of a major character got the job done. The the crowd was pretty much dead through the film for some reason. First thing my dad said when the film ended was, "Why didn't the blond guy help the good guys like in the old films?" :lol I said, "He's old and busy."

Anyway, this is how I rank them.

1. SW
2.ESB

3. ROTJ

4. TFA

I won't even bother with the rest.

I see some people online saying the new film is as good as A New Hope, but it's not...not even close. Everything memorable or iconic from the franchise was established in that original film, from the music to the design of the characters, pretty much everything, and this film just copies or continues that without adding anything original. That alone puts the ANH on a whole different level. The new fan film like those Vin Diesel films, was entertaining, but instantly forgettable.

I think Ren wanted the traitor to suffer.

The force was dormant after Luke and his failed order, it finally awoke in Rey (hence the title). Her staff and hand to hand combat ability coupled with the fact Kylo was not trying to kill her helped her achieve victory over Ren.

He had been injured by Chewie.

That's just not a good enough excuse in my opinion :lol I think using a force push or choke would have been easier than have a duel with someone.

So Kylo toys with Finn even though he's hurt badly enough that he can't tap into his force powers? I don't know, that's just not good writing to me.

If episode 8 actually explains how she was able to do that, then I can enjoy the movie a bit more.

Sure, the plot was point for point almost the same, but it was a lot of fun to watch!

It was entertaining at times, but it needed to be better than what we got....again,20 years too late for me.I didn't care for a major character killed off the way they did so soon and the minimal emotions about it from the original characters....Episode VIII needs to be better!

Still doesn't work for me, but I guess I'm just going to have to accept this answer.

Even though I was underwhelmed by TFA, I am pretty stoked for episode 8, Rian Johnson is an amazing director.

My theory is she was already immensely skilled in hand-to-hand combat after surviving as a scavenger from a young age (we did see her in action throughout the film). Her newly discovered Force powers simply amplified those existing skills.

With Rian at the helm it will be.

Kylo/Ben/Driver was the highlight for me. I can't wait to see his arc played out.

(IMO at worst this movie righted the wrongs done by the PT)

Wait, you're saying that TFA's story structure was similar to that of ANH? Well I'm glad you're here to tell us these things!

Just saying the critics are right! It's easy to get caught up in the hype and a new Starwars film than to see it for what it really is...and it's no where near the originals
