Very upsetting them not together one last time, even if in a flashback scene, something!

I'm sorry but for me to accept the new they had to get the old right.

YES I agree, the new stuff is 100 x better and more natural than the PT stiffness.

But for ****s sake, not having them together just ****ing blows. :lol

Oh well, one of my brothers asked me to go with him and the kids today.

Let me go torture myself again.

How many more people have to fall down godamn shafts!

Luke set up a new Jedi academy, some of his students led by BenRen, formed a group called Knights of Ren, they became more interested in digging up the dark past, ie the sith. Their poster boy of course was Vader. Luke ****ed up in their teaching, just like obi-wan did with Vader. Luke was never properly trained either. After the Knights killed all the other Young Jedi, seen in that rainy flashback. Luke decided to go into hiding unsure what to do. He looked for the original Jedi temple to meditate on the situation, look for help perhaps. The Knights (like a bunch of college students with a quija board resurrected Snoke/plaguis. That's why he looks like a dead guy. Then the **** hit the fan. Snoke told them to kill all the Jedi.

Rey is either rens younger sister hidden from kylo when the **** hit the fan or Luke daughter. You see her as a child in the flashback. There is some dialogue from cut scenes in the toys that suggest she is his sister. Leia and Han don't know where she is either, if they knew Kylo would know. It's s sleeping beauty rehash. When it's safe they will get her. Guarding her is max sydows character who has part of the map to get Luke, the other in r2. A fail safe plan. Sydows worked with Luke training Jedi, that's why Ren recognised him at the start of the movie. That's why you see Luke's robot hand on r2 in the trailer shot.
A lot of this came from the original script leaks, which turned out to be largely accurate. There are still suggestions in the movie that Ren knows about Rey "what girl!!!!" And that Han perhaps realises it could be her "who is that girl"..,

Interesting. I thought these shots were visions of the future she was having. Still not sure if she saw the past or the future since she basically saw her encounter with Kylo in the snow among these shots.

The scenes of her being left on Jakku and the knights of ren in the rain are clearly the past. And the snow scene is something that takes place later in the film. So maybe both?

I'd rep you if I could...great post and gif...LOL

:monkey2....oh well, :hi5:

It actually fits fine, again Luke was seriously injured by the Wampa. He collapses minutes after escaping, hanging upside down after being knocked fromyour space horse is traumatic.

Yup, Luke got hurt....a lot in those films. Didn't Rey hit a tree when she was force pushed by Ren Ben? She's unbreakable! :lol

A little disappointed that this isn't getting the universal praise I thought it would but I guess I should've known better :lol. Interesting to see the mixed feelings on some of the characters and story in general. I'll be finding out for myself in 15 minutes!

What do you call a 95% on RT? That's a higher critic rating than any of the original films. If anything this film is overrated as hell. Critics complained that Ultron was too similar to the original Avengers film, yet they had no trouble giving this film a pass because it has a nostalgic theme that makes grown man cry while they hold their Chewie stuffed dolls. :dunno

Little Rey on Jakku is obviously past. But the shots above don't necessarily equate to past. I'm thinking they're from the future (Episode VIII).

For a guy hating this movie, you sure are seeing it a lot. Give in the dark side, Jye..........search your feelings, you know you love this movie!!!!

And WTF was up with the lame ass boring new music, it sounded like a poor rip off LOTR music more than anything else.

Williams is in his 80s, give the guy a ****ing break. :lol

None of the score was memorable except for the reused bits (Leia's theme, the death of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru) but it's whatever. John William's has been giving audiences iconic, memorable pieces for years. With the Original and Prequel Trilogy, he gave us really great Star Wars soundtracks. I can cut him some slack for a mediocre and bland one.

I'm trying to think of what Rey's little theme sounds like. I want to say Waterworld but I think it might be some kids movie that my little brothers watched in the 90s or early 2000s.

Yeah tis a shame that the big 3 (4 if you include Lando...5, 6 and 7 if you include Chewie and the droids) will now never share screentime again. I will say that TFA has reset my expectations where, for the next film, I will be looking for more than just acting and characters that don't put me to sleep. I hope by the end of this trilogy I will be able to look back and say ''yeah, they explained that well'' and ''it was worth doing what they did in TFA as the pay-off was so good''.

My take on is it that scene showing Ren destroying Lukes Jedi order.

This is the ONE area where the PT was better, the new music created for the PT was excellent!

Yeah, lets see.

I'm hoping my 2nd viewing calms me down. :lol

I thought Kylo and the Knights represented the past. The bodies being all the pandawans and Jedi killed at Luke's academy. After all..he is fulfilling Vader task....bring peace and order to the galaxy by destroying the republic and Jedi. Would explain why Luke is absent and Rey (assuming she was part of the academy until Kylo went rogue) is on Jakku.

I guess it'd be more clear if they told us what was going on with an ignited sabre in a dead persons hand and a sign dangling in the air half lit spelling out Luke's Jedi Academy :lol

Jye, I think you'll like it a little more on your second viewing. I did.

Overall, I think it was okay. It was good. Nothing about it blew me away, but I don't think these types of blockbusters can really do that anymore. I liked that the humor felt genuine and real (my favorite bit is Poe being like "do I talk or do you talk") and I liked seeing Han and Chewie again. Their smuggling antics before the stupid tentacle squid monsters between those two trade groups was great to see. The first act and lightsaber duel at the end is solid.

I still think the troopers look lame though, all squat, unimposing and duck like. The CGI creatures were nothing to write home about (the Orange sage woman thing and Snoke are dumb). Rey is overpowered. Ren is an Anakin clone and the plot/story isn't really original, but the good and positives outweighs the bad, or rather, mediocre. It's a satisfactory movie and a little bit better than what I thought it would be. Just please have Luke be cool and be involved in the sequel please. That's all I ask. Right now what we know about him and his 30+ years, he looks like a completely wasted chump.

Found this little blurb about Lucas' original Episode VII treatment:

"We’ve known for the past couple of years that George Lucas was working on a treatment for Star Wars: Episode VII before Disney bought Lucasfilm, and that the studio decided to toss it out. Speaking to Vanity Fair in their print issue [via The Playlist], Lucas reveals that his treatment focused on teenagers. Disney was worried that this route would be a retread of the prequels, and decided to go in a different direction."

George Lucas' Star Wars 7 Script Would Have Focused on Teenagers | Collider

Are Rey, Finn and Kylo not teenagers? I certainly thought they were kids. Younger than Farmboy Luke (who is referred to as kid and boy and 19 years old in the script) atleast.

I got a kick out of seeing Finn's little baby picture on the holo file thing. It was a nappy headed gerber baby. :lol

Watched it for the second time today. Some thoughts

- the first scene with the FO attack on the village does a good job of setting them up as bad guys. Even if you don't know anything about star wars the raid, burning and execution of villagers will set you straight on who the baddies are.
- Rey's lonely life and struggle is presented in a good way
- I love Finn and Poe's back and forth as they escape in the TIE fighter
- kylo rens lightsaber tantrums are a bit much. I get what they were going for but on the second viewing it bugged me a little.
- Rey and Finns chemistry was great. As was her interactions with Han on the Falcon. Han and Chewbaccas interactions seemed very natural.
- the Rathar scene is unecessary. Doesn't really fit in a SW movie.
- I liked the feel of Maz cantina. Would love to have a drink there.
- Maz is intriguing. Wonder what her story is. She says she is no Jedi but she knows the force, and how did she get Luke/anakins lightsaber.
- the flashback/vision scene with Rey is very well done. Both yoda and obi-wan are in there, and I hope we get answers to what those scenes represent later.
- the fight scenes on Maz planet are awesome. Poe owning TIEs is great too see.
- Han and Leias reunion just work. 3PO is annoying as ever.
- the relationship between Hux and Ren is weird. are they the same rank? one in charge of military planning the other of finding luke skywalker?
- the briefing on starkiller base is a bit too much ANH.
- Rey climbing in the trench to get away from the stormtroopers has a real Star Wars feel to it, like when luke and leia swing over the chasm on the death star. the scale of the trench just looks massive.
- the way the get rid of the shields is a bit too convenient. I hope Phasma returns and gets a bigger part.
- again the x-wing vs tie fighter action is great. Poe is maybe a bit to good at flying?
- the bridge scene. I think it works very well. good work by both Ford and Driver. And I know this was discussed before, Ford definately says Ben when he walks onto the bridge.
- Finn vs Kylo is really just Kylo toying with him. and you can tell Kylo is really hurt by the shot from Chewbacca. I like how he punches the wound to keep focused. The moment Finn lands a strike he ends the fight in seconds.
- Rey vs Kylo. He is clearly toying with her for the first part of the fight. He could have killed her easily if he had not been trying to recruit her. I only caught this on the second viewing but I like the connection to Maz told Rey: "just close your eyes and let the light in". Which is exactly what Rey does, closes her eyes and lets the force in.
- did Kylo loose a arm or not? I was looking for it but it's really hard to tell.
- chewbacca just walking past Leia is weird! She must have some connection to Rey since she goes straight for her. Especially considering Chewbacca went right up and hugged her the first scene they had together.
- the mourning for Han is interrupted by R2s great news. I can see what they were going for but a bit more focus on Hans death would be nice.
- Rey and Luke MUST have some connection with the way he looks at her in that final scene.

I still like the film. I have no problem with the score as some have said. It's not mindblowing but certainly not bad! The acting is good(Ford steals the show for me, Rey, Finn and Kylo all well acted aswell), the dialogue is good and flows naturally. The locations felt like Star wars to me. Visually I don't see how anyone can fault this film, it really looks good! Some things that bother me but when the rest of the movie works I can overlook them. The humour worked for me aswell. A bit to close to ANH sometimes but not over the remake-line for me personally. Going to stick with my ANH > ESB > TFA > ROTJ ranking. It's got the Star Wars feeling for me.
